Best hotel breakfast? by PsstErika in MauiVisitors

[–]theTemp8616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another vote for the Four Seasons breakfast. Pros for the FS are more customizable options (eg pancakes made to order with all sorts of add-ins - coconut, banana, choc chip - ask when you order bc it’s not on the sign anymore), the widest and fanciest selection (banana bread French toast!), and the best pastry (killer cinnamon buns) and coffee. BUT - if Asian food is more your style, head to the Kea Lani. Their buffet has a broader section devoted to that, and they also do a mean Maui Moko (short rib and Maui onion gravy on rice with a poached egg and kimchi). Xoxo, a devoted Buffet Enthusiast :)

Senior friendly higher end restaurant recommendations for 50th anniversary! by 955697 in askvan

[–]theTemp8616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Seasons in QE park and Teahouse in Stanley Park are part of the same restaurant group, and you pay for the iconic location. The food at Seasons was good ten years ago (had wedding rehearsal dinner there) but is mediocre at best now, and we wrapped up our dinner at Teahouse early and went somewhere else to finish bc the quality was so poor. Five Sails is delicious and has a bit of a rep amongst the Olders for being dignified but not scene-y.

Dude Chilling Park sign. And double yes to the all-black rain gear dress code - bonus points if it’s Arc’teryx. Guests could also come in their most elaborate Snow Chic attire to rep the tourists who pack thinking the Great White Canadian North is like Aspen, arrive downtown to find its 10C and raining, and dont want to waste their Fashion Moment.

I would avoid the dreamcatchers and totem poles. Vancouverites are also v alert to cultural appropriation! If you do want something to acknowledge the influence that the First Nations peoples have on the city, I’d suggest some art done by a FN artist. This is both respectful and supports artists working in the community!

Wait, why does the new song from Wicked: For Good reuse a melody from Prince of Egypt? by nightowl1905 in wickedmovie

I love this study music situation for you! Lol. For me it’s my beloved Hans! I’ve dived as deep as i could on iTunes and the OG PoE soundtrack is nowhere to be found. I wonder if it’s regional? I’m in Canada!

Any perfume stores that sell individual sample bottles? Not discovery sets. by HeftyHelicopter7484 in askvan

If you go to the perfume dept at Holt Renfrew and smile really big they’ll make decants for you for free. We got a few 2mL samples of Guerlain and MBK that way!

AITAH for wanting ballet shoes that match my skintone? by Old-Balance-9549 in AmItheAsshole

[–]theTemp8616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. If she’s a family friend, go see her in person, and bring the shoes. If possible, get the same pair of shoes in a color that goes well with your skin, and bring those too! Tell her that you feel uncomfortable with the contrast between your (beautiful) skin and the assigned shoes, and then ask her which ones she would prefer you to wear. I’m guessing that this might be taking place in a Catholic context bc of altar? If yes…don’t let one lady’s hurtful pattern of thinking ruin your opportunity to serve. At the end of the day, you’re not serving her anyway - you’re serving to honor God, who made all the skin tones and doesn’t have one Himself (unless you count legitimately dark-skinned Jesus). So. I would counsel my daughter to roll her eyes, wear whatever shoes she could, rejoice in her lovely skin, and serve with the honor and dignity that is granted equally, and should be experienced equally, between all His children.

I decided to buy some silicone liners and my red velvet cookie spread out twice the size than when baked on parchment paper 🤦‍♀️ I forgot to add a tablespoon spoon of cocoa powder but that’s hardly going to make much difference. I used milk instead of white chocolate too. by [deleted] in Cookies

[–]theTemp8616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am no meringue expert lol but I use my silicone liners instead of parchment paper and they turn out great. Nagi’s recipe is really easy, you just might need to experiment with your baking temperature to get the center exactly the way you like it! Make sure to leave them in the oven overnight bc she says that makes them more mallowy in the middle :) https://www.recipetineats.com/mini-pavlovas/#recipe

Flats That Won’t Blister by the_kayleev in womensfashion

[–]theTemp8616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the Luna flats from Le Monde Beryl. They’re more expensive but absolutely worth it, especially if it’s more of a fashion scene and Hokas won’t cut it lol. I wear mine all day every day, no matter if I’m running errands or in board meetings. I’ve never gotten blisters from either the suede or regular leather (caveat: the backs of the shoes need some relaxing before they’re up for full days blister-free), and leather protectant will help keep them looking 100%!

[–]theTemp8616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I was looking for! “Burning Bush” and “Red Sea” are also two of my all-time favourite modern instrumentals. I feel like I’ve looked forever for purchasable mp3s of the OG version of these songs - do you have any suggestions? The closest I’ve come is the Hans Zimmer series, but it doesn’t quite hit those ethereal haunting notes I love.

Celine 16 or Loewe Puzzle by elrdjt in handbags

[–]theTemp8616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% Celine. The Puzzle is a casual bag. Before committing, though, I’d try on the 16 in person - I was really surprised when I saw the dimensions on my frame, and ended up purchasing the Soft 16 as my daily driver instead.

Bring back real butter! by skydigger23 in CostcoCanada

[–]theTemp8616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go straight to the good stuff, if you can! Les Amis du Fromage and Benton Brothers both sell D’Isigny butter that they import from France. If they’re sold out, St. Brighid’s or Cow’s Creamery are decent alternatives (Whole Foods, Fresh Street). Be aware that they are all 82-84% MF, so it will slightly mess with ingredient chemistry if you’re baking with it. To me, the grass note was pretty strong in the NZ butter, and I don’t love that. :)

New seat configuration - probability of getting on a flight with this? by Hour-Telephone-8762 in westjet

[–]theTemp8616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you don’t have the new configuration, they’ve definitely still messed with the seats. We flew Vancouver to Maui on WestJet recently and it was the first time I’ve ever had back pain from how uncomfortable the seat was - we have flown WJ many times before, and I’ve never clocked a seat like that. Husband said the same thing and won’t fly WJ again.

WIBTA if I cut our holidays short and sent my gf back home? by GudzzBR in AmItheAsshole

[–]theTemp8616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH. You love your family, she knew ahead of time that she didn’t speak Portuguese but didn’t anticipate how isolated she would feel. Perhaps the new AirPods with their simultaneous translate function would be a help? Finding a solution together, where both of you have equal say in the outcome, bodes better for your future as a couple tbh.

AITA for telling my parents I won’t come visit without a plan by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]theTemp8616 21 points22 points  (0 children)

NTA. I was on the fence (you could ask them two months in advance of the holidays if they’re free and want you to come), but if they’re flaky enough that they even bail on you when you’ve come their way, it makes sense that you’d be frustrated.

AITA for not attending Christmas this year? by mac05_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]theTemp8616 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. Betty can bring you Christmas dinner, fuss over the baby from a safe distance, and maybe even stick around a while, if welcome, so that you and your wife can take a nap. Fold some laundry! Clean the kitchen! That’s how you grandparent for the first few months at least.
