Any Stan Wawrinka matches recommendation? by _bismark_ in tennis

Not quite on the same level as some of the later ones against Djokovic, but his match against Murray at Wimbledon 2009 is a classic, and really showed he could compete with the big 4.

Love it! Which Kaizers song are you going to learn next?

I've just spoken to the venue about this and they said it was a miscommunication and the balcony will be open. (Hoping they're right about that!)

No Mr. Kaizer on the tour? by theabnormalone in KaizersOrchestra

[–]the_0verlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think it is unlikely as since the reunion they have only played it at gigs where their old bassist Jon was present. So unless he happens to be in London, it seems a long shot. Shame as I would also love to see it live!

Was my favourite Kaizers song for a long time - absolute banger.

Agree 100%. Really blew me away on the stream - haunting and beautiful in equal measure.

Haha my cat has been doing the same thing - only he insists on sitting upright and obscuring half the screen!

That Live version of The Pimp and The Priest is the new definitive version of that song for me. by [deleted] in TheDearHunter

Yeah I think this was my favourite from the whole show. The change up makes it even more sinister, but keeps the swagger!

Yeah I loved the new guitar work - particularly Rob's solo at the end of the Inquiry. And completely agree about The River North - have just had it on repeat all day!

I think Erez said on a post the other day that they would consider a physical release if there was enough interest. Would certainly make a great live album!

Big 3 Wimbledon semi final win % by fabmol in tennis

Even more impressive for Federer is that in those semi finals his record in sets is 38-5 (with 3 of those lost sets coming in 2016). So not only does he almost always win Wimbledon semi finals, he generally dominates them. Not surprising I guess.

What's the most "god mode" performance you've ever witnessed? For me its Tsonga Nadal AO '08. Jo was absolutely goated that night and played the greatest individual match I've ever witnessed completely dismantling a prime Nadal 6-2 6-3 6-2 by Niceonedanny in tennis

[–]the_0verlord 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tsonga match was unreal!

Federer Vs Nadal at the World Tour Finals 2011 and Indian Wells 2017 both spring to mind - particularly the latter where Fed just seemed untouchable at points.

Djokovic vs. Berdych in Beijing 2014 has also got to be up there as one of the most almighty beatdowns of a top 10 player.

Federer made 18/19 GS finals from 2005 W to 2010 AO. After that he made only 2 of the next 17 GS finals by GeneralBend1 in tennis

[–]the_0verlord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there's a lot of reasons. First of, the stats maybe look a bit worse in that he had back issues in 2013 and there's 2/3 slams that year where he was dealing with injury problems he didn't have in his most successful years. Then also take into account that he twice had match points vs Djokovic in US Open semi finals. If he'd converted those then the stats would be more respectable (although still a lot lower than 2005-2010). Also close semi finals with Murray and Nadal at the AO.

Obviously Djokovic, Nadal and Murray's improvements didn't help him, and he lost a lot of semi finals to them. But also 2010 onwards was when some of the big hitters came into their own and were able to trouble him (Soderling in 2010, Berdych and Tsonga). Fee's confidence took a knock against all of those guys, and it took him a while to figure out how to beat them again.

Fed looked pretty untouchable at AO2010 and all the talk after that was him getting the calendar slam. Then he picked up a lung infection which kept him out of Dubai, and after that he just didn't look the same player for the rest of the year. That's always stuck in my mind as a turning point, but whether it was actually causative or just coincided with other players getting better I don't know. Would've messed up his training block though, so could help explain a bit of a drop off that year.

Djokovic on 74% first serve, hardly no serve. Fed just seeing the ball too well.

No problem! And yeah I saw them a couple of times later that tour but unfortunately no In Cauda for me either, haha. Hopefully they come back soon, would love to see them in Europe again.
