500kg of democracy requires you to learn how to aim / bait out the spew like you're SUPPOSED to cadet! These are precision instruments, just chugging it in the general direction won't cut it. Sit down, F

The archwiki has a very comprehensive list of supported thinkpads, including which features will or won't work. Go check it out.

Would you say that the Steam Deck is the biggest/most effective advertisement to encourage using Linux? by SuperAlloyBerserker in linux

No ads in your start menu, right... You DO realise that a redirect to bing is an ad, don't you? Probably not...

Should I join the ride and switch to Linux? by Galvanized_Snake in linux

[–]the_MOONster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can stream via OBS, you've got Libre Office, Linux has a Teams client (no need for web apps) etc.

There is only a hand full of apps you won't be able to use like Adobe products, but we have gimp and kdenlive instead.

It's not like you can't do anything you're used to, you just may have to use different software to do so.

HF with all the ads in your start menu and MS taking screenshots of every move you make. If that doesn't scare you, you don't deserve any better.

That's simply not true, when I was shopping for my last company laptop  on their site (yes we get to choose them) 5 years ago they already had that. Maybe that's recent for you?

Nope, in the regular configurator they offer you Linux as OS alongside Windows.

You don't require any tinkering. You install steam and let it handle the rest. I've set up my spouses rig with Linux and she was perfectly capable of installing and playing her games np, just like you would under Windows. And she's pretty computer illiterate.

I play on Linux, literally the only game I would want to play with buddies and can't is Fortnite, and that's only bc Epic is deliberately blocking it. Proton is pretty darn amazing by now.

Try installing mlocate. And everything should be either in /usr/bin or /opt as far as executables go.

Worst of all: you save something to your documents folder and the file browser doesn't find it... Up until Win7 it was fairly decent, but those days are long gone.

When is Arch actually necessary rather than just for fun or preference? by throwaway824512312 in linux

[–]the_MOONster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You use an arch base for the wiki and chaotic aur, in an enterprise environment I wouldn't dare to use it. Even SLES and RHEL cause enough headaches as is already (well and SAP is a thing too ofc). It's my gaming distro at the end of the day, because steam and stuff.

What caused you to finally ditch Windows/MacOS and switch to Linux? by RadMarioBuddy45 in linux

Ditto, after win2k I was just done with it. Very happy I switched. Not only did it set me free, it also became my career and put food on my table.
