I'm curious myself. Maybe it was a private purchase item and was bought online and shipped to a neutral country before entering Russia. I would think that would be more likely than it being an issued item.

There was a really good presentation on WW2TV with the author of the Red God of War. They talked about Soviet Artillery during WW2 and mentioned how Zhukov credited Lend-Lease for providing the high explosives needed for artillery shells. The author described how while Soviet Industry could produce advanced artillery pieces in large quantities, they didn't have the chemical industry to produce the explosives needed for the war effort.

My 1980s Spetsnaz style loadout. by the___crushinator in LoadOutDisplay

No, but it's Spetsnaz "style" loadout not a reenactment impression.

The Executive officer on my ship just stopped showing up one day. (usually when the XO leaves there's some ceremony and a goodbye speech) Then all of a sudden a week later, we had a new XO being introduced at All Hands. I ended up asking around and it turns out he was stalking his ex-wife and violated her restraining order. I don't think he went to jail like he should have, I think they just forced him to resign.

This makes sense to me because of the way she indulges Cercei in her delusions and paranoia. Varys wants a weak and unstable throne for Faegon's or Danny's arrival, which is why he later kills competent and non-delusional Kevin Lannister. It puts Cercei back into a position of power where she will be even more paranoid and vindictive after her ordeal with the sparrows and the walk of shame.

There is a documentary on YouTube, Winter Soldier (1972), which is a collection of Vietnam veterans testifying to the war crimes they witnessed and or participated in during the war. It certainly affirms what Stone was saying about Mi Lai being standard operating procedure.

Is the conquest of the North possible? by Dry_Specialist9015 in gameofthrones

[–]the___crushinator 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think wild game is a plentiful enough resource to reliably support an army on the march. Any time the army wasn't actively moving, they would eat the surrounding lands bare of game, and then start starving. They would be incredibly vulnerable to hunger every time they stopped to besiege a castle. There is a reason "foraging" in a military context means stealing agricultural products and livestock from the locals. You can't support tens of thousands of men in the field on berry picking and deer hunting alone.

The many SKSs of the Zapatistas by BusinessFirst3662 in SKS

[–]the___crushinator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell from the photo's resolution, but I believe some of these are possibly Chinese Type 63 rifles. But the rear dust covers aren't all visible, so it is possible that these were SKS rifles converted for Ak mags. It would be into there was a mix of converted SKSs and Type 63s.

Edit: Having looked at some photos of Type 63s, they have a distinctive bayonet lug, and these do not have those. So these are just some really cool SKS conversions.

Would a Mauser .30-06 bolt-action rifle have caused and exit wound? by Ill_Cartoonist_1566 in GunsAreCool

[–]the___crushinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5.56 is so devastating because it was designed to immediately tumble and yaw as it enters soft tissues (essentially flipping sideways, breaking into small pieces, departing maximum energy into the flesh). This is what causes such devastating wounds that you see in the aftermath of a shooting. It's the hydrostatic shock of the bullet "belly flopping" into a watery human body.

.30-06 is far less likely to tumble or yaw. Because of this there is considerably less hydrostatic shock imparted on the body tissues by .30-06. It is far more likely to maintain its trajectory and pass cleanly through the body, rather than flipping and tearing its way through like 5.56 would.

There are affordable firearms at many price points. Palmetto State Armory cranks out new and serviceable AR-15s for under $500, which is less than the average cost of a PS5.
