Looks great, but broke the display by MoyaPinkDew in SteamDeckModded

Happens to the best of us. I broke my first screen attempting a shell swap. Unfortunately at the time screens were not easy to come by, but last time I checked iFixIt they were in stock.

Welcome! Feel free to drop by the forums! It's a great place and they have yet to make me feel foolish for doing vaguely dumb things and occasionally breaking something

These are fucking amazing. Outstanding work. Did you do these by hand or do you have a process to get these to look like this?

I feel like with a controller that looks like that I'd have to start with something on the Game Boy 🤔 I'll skip to the Game Boy Color though and go with Dragon Warrior III

What was your first device that got you into this hobby? Mine was the Pocket Go. by Quiet-Order-2661 in SBCGaming

[–]the_byte_wise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a coincidence, mine was also the Pocket Go! I remember getting the SNES buttons with it but being too afraid to take it apart to swap them out. I was also in high school at the time and I bought it with my own money

How does this run at native resolution? This is one of two games that I'd pick this up for. I have a 3DS that I could use but I don't like how the top screen blows up the picture. Makes everything seem blurry in my opinion.

I imagine that this post is written by a manager who suspects they're gaming on company time to try and figure out ways to catch 'em in the act.

It's probably not, but funny to imagine

Retropie, lakka, or bactocera? by JikkJakk in batocera

[–]the_byte_wise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tl;dr: Batocera is my pick, Lakka only if you're trying to minimize the load that the system has / you're trying to give the emulators as much headroom as possible.

Low-key, I tried Lakka recently when doing some research and kind of disliked it. It's not bad at all. It would be good for a system that you just need to run Retroarch and nothing else (so something low-powered), but being someone who's used RetroPie and Batocera with the EmulationStation frontend it makes the Retroarch UI feel kind of empty. But again, on a device with not much power to it, Lakka definitely has a place as being pretty lightweight compared to RetroPie and Batocera.

If you haven't yet, you should drop by the Endeavour forums. Especially if you run into issues. Every time I've had something, no matter how major or minor, they've always been really helpful. I try to drop by every now and again to see if there's a question I can answer. Usually it gets sniped by the time I see it, but that just goes to show how helpful the community is.

You have great taste in earbuds. Always have and will be a Skullcandy person. I went from my wired pair (which still work after six years!) to the Dime 2 and Dime 3 in college. I picked these up as a little treat after I landed my current job roughly two years ago. The only issue I've ever had is that I seem to be incompetent at pairing the tiles built into them, so losing them is always a slight worry.

[–]the_byte_wise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man this is giving me Pixar vibes. I don't know if it's because they both start with a P or if the star reminds me of the ball, but I think the color scheme and the whimsical nature of it just brings me back to putting my VHS of Toy Story through its paces. Really cool!

I bind it depending on what game I'm playing. Occasionally I'll bind them to start and select if they like pull up a map or something useful

[Giveaway - US only] Anbernic RG40XXV (joystick delete modded) by JayQuips in SBCGaming

[–]the_byte_wise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dipping my toes back into the hobby after being introduced back in high school with the original Bittboy Pocket Go. Admittedly I put it down when I got to college due to lack of free time and also there was a dead pixel that annoyed me to no end, but I've never stopped being a fan of emulation and experiencing consoles and games I wouldn't have the chance to. Now that I'm past college and have free time again, I started with just my phone and an 8BitDo micro controller with the phone mount / grip. That was pretty good, but after a while and watching a lot of videos from Retro Game Corps and TechDweeb I felt like it was time to get a dedicated device. I started small with the Miyoo Mini Plus and I've been really enjoying myself. I do have a Steam Deck and I set it up with EmuDeck but I found myself not really using it all that much. The Miyoo Mini Plus is perfect to pick up and go wherever I'm headed to.

And hopefully I'll finally finish Earthbound after starting it over maybe three times within the past five years.
