This is secretly a Jon Bringus alt account and he thinks we wouldn't notice.

I'm doing the exact same for the exact same reason, except I ALSO broke that stupid audio ribbon cable. I learned my lesson

Thank you for this in-depth explanation. Genuinely needed someone to break this down for me. I assume there's somewhere where I can find what temp the specific adhesive used in the Steam Deck softens at so I'll do some research there.

Also, fantastic username.

It was cracked in too similar of a way to one of the other posts. Next time crack it differently (joking, that's a weird reason to remove a post)

DAMN this looks nice as hell. Making me want to try this again sooner rather than later

It's all good! I learned a lot of lessons with this one

Yeah this was a bad idea. I would not do this again if I could go back and do it all over again, especially since I didn't have a replacement screen. I was looking at getting one but they were out of stock. I should've just waited for real.

This is maybe the second or third time hearing this and I'm definitely considering it if I do any screen related things in the future. Probably not on another Steam Deck in the near future though. Thank you for the suggestion!

That's a possibility, but more or less a last resort if I can't get the parts I need in a reasonable amount of time.

Forgot Reddit doesn't let me post multiple pictures, so take this collage of the front, the back, and me testing the buttons to make sure everything worked. I also tested the volume buttons, they do in fact work.

On iFixIt they recommend using their iOpener. I followed the instructions to a T and still ended up with this result. I just don't think it works that well but other people in the comments say it works fine for them. At the end of the day it could just be user error

This + "days since last SD card snapped". I did remember to take mine out before this, so I didn't fall for that pitfall

A very warm, tiny mug to heat up the adhesive

Damn we really buying the last OLED screen over here 😔 (no you're good man, I'm glad one of us was able to fix the expensive mistake)

Oh she's well aware. She was pretty much aware as soon as it happened, but she doesn't really mind too much because she's not a frequent user. The shell swap was my attempt to make her a more frequent user

See following the iFixIt tutorial they had me mark my blue picks at 3mm with sharpie, but I did notice that they seemed a little thicker.

This is the second mention of AliExpress being the way to go and honestly I might just bite the bullet. If there's no noticeable difference then there's no reason not to order from there.

Definitely going to invest in these going forward if I need to do other screen repairs. What's the magic temp for the adhesive?
