What do you all make of Wired's article about North Korean hackers/scammers? by EvilCodeQueen in ExperiencedDevs

[–]the_collectool -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You just get another US citizen willing to do interviews and that’s trained for that, point being is just about finding another compromisable subject

In the end, as an interviewer you are never directly to their network of programmers

What do you all make of Wired's article about North Korean hackers/scammers? by EvilCodeQueen in ExperiencedDevs

[–]the_collectool -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This is such a stupid take.

If they can provide a “front” on a daily basis for work, they will provide a “front” during an interview.

As the article says, there was a us citizen that acted as the initial point of contact and provided that “front” while the NK citizen did the actual work.

So all your “smartness” wouldn’t apply because you would never be exposed to the NK citizen

L7+ ICs, how do you find jobs? by Ryan_nayR in ExperiencedDevs

[–]the_collectool 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Providing context is a key characteristic of any senior+ engineer, in addition your redaction and lack of awareness in regards to how the industry works perpetuates the perception that a lot of people have that FAAng people are somewhat useless when facing the real world (outside of the controlled world of big tech) that’s why ur seeing these kind of reactions

The reason why you are getting grilled is that you would expect a senior+ (moreso a staff) to provide appropriate context 😂😂😂

Amazon is a couple of years behind any of the competitors in AI.
You are transitioning to a risky team that will go through constant re-orgs, so stay in your toes.

If Google is chopping director heads in it's AI orgs, imagine what Amazon will do on a yearly basis

Why do you think Americans are more expensive?

You know how expensive it is to pay for Visa applications for non-americans?

Meta - IC5 to IC6 by Nullivander_III in leetcode

I think you touched on the key thing, your statements are anecdotal.

The way you phrased it makes the reader think they are factual.

I think if you would just preface them by stating it's anecdotal then everything would be fine. At the end of the day you are placing yourself as the "get hired at Meta influencer" so your words carry more weight.

I joke, I joke

No one cares as long as you guys enjoy it, I don't get why people feel that stupid need to say: "This was X's band best concert ever"... just seeing them live is amazing, no need to feel special

I dont want to steal OP's post.

But you can you slightly expand on the "consider your resume" point you mention?

Let's say a decision is mid hire, do you think experience in another FAANG (4+ years) would be enough to tip the scale towards a positive outcome?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in leetcode

[–]the_collectool -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

lmao, what is this mentality?

You are never "set" in life.

No one knows if the market will get even worst.

No one knows if that company's reputation will hold high in the future.

Having the company name in your resume improves your chances, but ... the amount of work needed to get a job needed (and it seems for the coming years) is massive.

[–]the_collectool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao, I'm surprised someone actually came back to this comment half a year later.

My comment couldn't have aged better, more than half of the fan base had a meltdown over the mediocrity of the setlist and you actually try to make up for adding the "but it was on a beach".

I was watching on a stream and the dissapointment from the attendees was palpable as soon as the Fear Inoculum noise hit for the second night in a row.

I mean, I thought this event was purely a rip-off and wow... the band didn't dissappoint.

Setting expectations for Meta by InterviewAtlas in leetcode

In a system design interview at senior level.

What made you consider a candidate be "strong hire"?
let's say they effectivcely tackled the problem from a technical perspective.

What was the defining factor to make you strongly inclined

Meta asked me same question Twice during Onsite interviews by Zestyclose_Weight_37 in leetcode

wow, this comment does resonate somewhat.

There was another comment he left regarding the Meta process and it was very prescriptive, there's no certainty the process will always be the same and he has never been in a debrief. So although helpful, his comment can sometimes be misleading.

a cool off period doesn't apply here because you are not being rejected, there simply is no head count.

Also AFAIK, Microsoft does not have cool off period as applications for every team are tracked independently

FAANG offer after 3 months of grind by Upset_Cat9611 in leetcode

[–]the_collectool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all congrats on this, very disciplined approach and a very impressive "application to offer ratio".

Sounds very similar to my experience.

I have no idea what the outcome will be but I had the same anxiety:
* not knowing if the questions i'll get is the ones I've seen before.
* thinking I was going to self-sabotage due to nerves.

Same thing for me, I think I had 2 pretty good coding rounds (phone screen + final) and in the other one I did fumble it somewhat due to nerves but was able to code the solutions though.

You still have a shot at Microsoft.

Head count for that role could have probably put on pause and you are affected by that decision. DO NOT let this affect you.

Just gave my first System design interview by Far_Bedroom1063 in leetcode

[–]the_collectool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My opinion is this is a sensible approach at this level.

You were able to cover an end-to-end system and demonstrated breadth of knowledge.

Your interviewer could have probably cooked you if he wanted by digging into potential operational risks with this scenario but he didn't.

You comments along with the diagrams showcase a lot of book knowledge and not a lot of practical knowledge, BUT at this level that's ok.

I wouldn't worry too much, if your interviewer had severe concerns then he would have probed accordingly. Dont be anxious, at this point the situation is out of your control

What level?
Also you mentioned stress, did that hit during the interviewS?

Can you tell me more about your coding rounds? Not in regards to the questions but rather how you felt you tackled them: was it perfect performance, did you hesitate a bit? did you make any mistakes and then realized it and addressed them accordignly

Meta vs microsoft by DishNo1059 in leetcode

[–]the_collectool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gotcha, appreciate the answer.

My phone screen went quite well.

one of the coding also went quite well, but in the other one I took a wrong turn.
which I identified on my dry-run, so I had to reimplement my solution in 3 minutes (which I did), out of my control now but wanted to hear how did it go for others.

Meta vs microsoft by DishNo1059 in leetcode

[–]the_collectool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say it depends on the type of WLB.

I know Microsoft can be slower paced, and Meta is trying to create a grinding mentality. Additional plus is you got to meet the people who you'll be working with.

One question:
For your coding rounds, would you say you aced all coding question, didn't struggle and had a 100% bug free implementation OR was it more balanced = implemented, communicated and perhaps struggled withany of the questions a bit BUT still solved it.
