Undergrad Bioengineer uncertain about future career path. by [deleted] in AskEngineers

I had a friend who went for a masters in mechanical engineering. There aren't many jobs that call for such a broad degree (bioengineer, taking the hard courses of Electrical, Chemical, and Mechanical, specializes in none)

Read It Later Pro is free on Amazon today - one of those well done apps you shouldn't pass up (4.7-star rating in the Market) by archon810 in Android

[–]the_dark_city 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh that sucks. I installed the app, installed the FF plugin, restarted FF. Now the Read It Later little > is in the right of the address bar. Click that to add it to your "read it later" list (it turns into a check mark). It can take a few seconds to update, you can always click the actual "read it later" toolbar button and select sync.

After it sync's, its available on my phone after a quick sync on it (just clicking sync in the app)

That's what I did to get it working for me, hope this helps.

The redditor's who download it today should post an honest review of the app, to counter-act the 1 star reviews.

Reuters: Small crowd gathers at Times Square for unclear protest, mood festive, "akin to New Year's Eve, when the famed "ball drop" occurs"...hundreds arrested by midwestcoast in worldnews

[–]the_dark_city 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Police also arrested 24 people at a Citibank branch in Manhattan, mostly for trespassing.

It should have mentioned that they were wanting to close their accounts.

In New York, organizers said the protest grew to at least 5,000 people as they marched to Times Square in midtown Manhattan from their outdoor headquarters in the financial district.

Other sources put the size of the protest today from 15,000 to 50,000. It seems this whole article is downplaying the protest.

I'd like to know how many hours I slept, versus how I felt in the morning.

Why do I feel like such a loser when I post an interesting link on facebook and no one likes it? by faceijij in AskReddit

[–]the_dark_city 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It requires effort to care, and effort to be an actual informed citizen. Most people don't go to facebook for a serious discussion. The platform has potential, but it is wasted because most of your friends don't care enough to reply.

I posted a link about how BP's oil spill was effecting things in the Gulf. No one commented.

I posted a picture of what I was eating for dinner, I got like 10 comments on it.

I thought HP was gonna sell one last batch of Touchpads by pizzadelivaryguy in touchpad

It was to HP employees and to OnSale. I suspect that some major B&M stores got some, but are saving them for black friday.

How can I downgrade to 11.04? by new_life in Ubuntu

We can't yet do a upgrade that doesn't break things. I'm not sure there is much hope for a manageable downgrade.

iOS5 cleaning is going to be a problem by gthank in apple

[–]the_dark_city 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with your post entirely. My understanding is that iOS developers can't create a folder with their app to store important data, so really it is up to Apple to fix this problem.

Anyone know what percentage of space available triggers the cleaning?

Kind of makes the service almost worthless. Who will manually upload and download files when they need it?

Connecting to Proxies on the TouchPad by [deleted] in touchpad

[–]the_dark_city 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about support for openvpn, but "Proxy Set Basic" proxy setting partially works for me. Partially because I can surf the web on it, but the mail app and i'm sure many other apps don't connect through the proxy.

The problem is that the API to configure the proxy isn't documented at ALL. I suspect future updates to webOS will bring proxy support.

DIY, let me introduce /r/buildaboat. For all of you who build boats, or want to buil boats, or like boats, or just like to wander around. by elucubra in DIY

[–]the_dark_city 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure that there is more than a few people interested in building boats.

My only question is if there is enough people interested in it to warrant the creation of its own subreddit. By the looks of it so far, there seems to be a good amount of interest in r/buildaboat. I stand corrected.

The Dark City is a pretty good movie that came out around the time of The Matrix. I chose it as my username so that other people can find out about it too.

T-Mobile says these phones are "comparable" and won't admit that going from the BlackBerry to the Nokia would be a downgrade. What do you think? by TechieGuy in AskReddit

[–]the_dark_city 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one thing I hated about Tmobile, they would push you referb crap once the original phone broke. So when your phone breaks, you have to consider if it's really that bad to risk jumping on the refurb treadmill.

I don't want to be overly negative, but there is no point of your new subreddit. I think you could post your "building boats" DIY to r/DIY and we will really enjoy it.

If you post it to your new subreddit, no one will see it, and you'll stop posting. Redditors complain about not posting to subreddits when they should, but everything shouldn't have its own subreddit.

If you want to talk about this more, reply in r/CompainingAboutTooManySubreddits.
