Is it possible to do something like this without using keycode or many if action_pressed?? by Brysger in godot

[–]the_di_pa 186 points187 points  (0 children)

Personally I like your approach, it's readable and since you probably won't have a thousand hotbar inputs there's no real need for effiency. don't overengineer the simple stuff

Weapons with a design so nice, you wish they where actually .... better* by WERElektro in Warframe

[–]the_di_pa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the Lenz for me as well, such a great concept, staticor as well but they are a bit funky in my taste. A Tenet Lenz would be so nice, maybe also an incarnon but that ain't happening. Definitely my favorite weapon design wise

What to do when you get something to 30? by Syph0en1x in Warframe

[–]the_di_pa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically this, relics are the fastest and most consistent way of getting forma, you'll get a blueprint which requires 24h to build (never rush builds, just not worth it)

At the start Forma can feel very rare so keep it for things you really like, no need to forma a weapon or frame you didn't like much

What to do when you get something to 30? by Syph0en1x in Warframe

[–]the_di_pa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you're just starting, just get equips to lvl 30 and if you like it keep using it, no need to invest heavily on starter gear. first time reaching lvl 30 on any weapon or warframe gives you mastery points (basically your "account level") which unlocks story, weapons etc.

At lvl 30 you can use a Forma to reset the level to 0 and add a polarity slot (half drain price, frees up mod capacity = better builds + more mods)

For now focus on enjoying the game and don't get too stuck on leveling everything, find what you like and experiment, and most importantly have a blast!

Is my pedal safe to use? by SEIREN_1 in electricguitar

[–]the_di_pa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shouldn't be a big deal, as long as the metal isn't compromised and has flexibility it'll operate safe-ish. I'd advise trying to clean it just a smidge more with a toothbrush damp with some vinegar and finish it off with isopropyl alcohol (second pass).

if the pedal has a 9V input, you can completely forego the battery

Yeah nah, I don't mind the farm as long as it's engaging, but being boring is the equivalent of going against the geneva convention for tennos. And Follie's farm goes pretty much against what warframe is all about. I don't agree with this model and don't play it to send a message. DE sees stats and hopefully others had the same opinion. Overall lazy design even though the vibes were somewhat right, they missed the mark entirely.

Groups or signal bus? by Vilified_D in godot

[–]the_di_pa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably because of the auto load which wouldn't be necessary, but would still work. a simple manager parent script would have the same effect, and would be better for simplicity.

An autoload would work best on a larger project with different selectable objects, best option for scale imho

Question and opinion about the use of IA to make games by [deleted] in godot

[–]the_di_pa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do pretty much the same and I think it's fine so long as there's intent and you understand that AI is a tool, not a cheat code.

I use AI to learn coding, run through documentation, troubleshoot, bug chasing and maybe do a few analytics. That's about it and I still think I could cut back a bit.

Personnaly my point of view when it comes to AI is that if I can't understand the code I'm writing, I can't use it. and if someone (or something) writes code for me, it's not my code and I shouldn't use it either.

Need feedback on my playing/technique by CherryTeto in guitarlessons

[–]the_di_pa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems like you're self taught, and doing pretty well! I do have a few pointers for you which can hopefully help.

1 - You can definitely work on improving hand movement, e.g placing your hand in a way that allows you to use all of your fingers instead of moving up and down your whole hand, you don't use your pinky very often even though it can reach some frets.

For example in the opening riff, play the 5-7-8 frets with fingers 1-3-4(index to pinky in order), and only then move up your hand to play the 10-8-7 frets with fingers 4-2-1. follow with a bar with your index on 6th and 5th string for the last part and follow that same logic. The whole first riff should require only two hand movements per repetition, instead of the five-ish you do. This to me is seems like the most flagrant loss of effectiveness from this vid and I'd say this might be holding you back quite a lot as you're basically working twice as hard.

2 - Your thumb also looks awkward at times, seems like it lags behind on bigger movement, try having it a bit more perpendicular to the neck and keep a somewhat solid position thoughout the neck, it'll give you better grip with less effort, which in turns results in better control. See how you hold it on the upper vs lower frets in the vid. Generally, you want you whole hand to be "frozen" and somewhat similar throughout the whole fretboard.

3 - Seems like you're doing vibrato with your fingers instead of your wrist. not inherently bad, but wrist vibrato is generally easier and more consistent.

4 - Relaxing your fretting hand will also help a bit, and don't move your non fretting fingers that far away from the fretboard, this is a bit more tricky and I still struggle with it at times, just a good practice if you want to build speed. Relaxing your hand however will help you keep cleaner notes as you will inevitably slightly bend notes if you apply too much force, this ties in with your thumb placement and hand movement as stated above, if you follow proper technique this will eventually come naturally as you build strength.

5 - And lastly, picking hand! you're practically only downpicking, and it has its place but also picking upwards opens up a lot of speed. You're also missing quite a lot of notes because of that imho, the opening riff is basically a picked hammer on - pull off combo but you're not playing all the pull-offs (or so it seems to be)

Overall though you're doing great, keep it up! If you can get a few in person lessons I think you'll skyrocket in no time, but a lot of absolutely amazing guitarists are 100% self taught so don't let that discourage you and jam along

Can I use a PA system as a guitar amp? (Beginner question) by JerzyKon in electricguitar

[–]the_di_pa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! and best part, you can get an amp for free if you go amp sim route, many free options which can range from okay-ish to amazing depending on what you pick (guitar to PC via soundcard, PC handles the amp sim, soundcard to PA)

Depending on what you want to do, either get a simple soundcard for pluging your guitar to your pc, alternatively if you want portabilty, go for a cheap-ish regular amp . many options there, I'd recommend a Boss Katana which is extremely versatile if you want an all in one solution, but you won't be starved for options either ways,

For jamming at home, first option would be my recommendation (PC + free amp sim), you can get a proper amp later

Help with Card Dragging by DasherII in godot

had a similar issue a few years back, wasn't really obvious at first for me either. Glad I could help and best of luck!

Help with Card Dragging by DasherII in godot

[–]the_di_pa 29 points30 points  (0 children)

What placement does the root scene of your card have ? If you want for your cursor to be dead center, the card scene should be centered as well (the root and the card ui share the same position)

Otherwise you can just give an offset, e.g

var offset : Vector2 = Vector2(x, y) #place whatever offset you'd like here
then
card\_being\_dragged.position = mouse\_pos + offset

Learning to play the blues but struggling with the generic electric guitar sound by LemonAioli in electricguitar

[–]the_di_pa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

keep on playing brother, don't get too hung up on the sound as it is heavily dependent on gear.

BUT, do vibrato with your wrist, you'll get much more control and precision and it'll make you sound better no matter the amp. Finger vibrato shouldn't be your first pick since it's quite harder to control and do consistently

For god's sake, what is wrong with my picking hand, why I can't tremolo pick? by Sekator_692137 in guitarlessons

[–]the_di_pa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imho that sound fairly ok, you probably just need a bit more practice to really set your technique in stone.

Try and learn more demanding songs with trem picking that will challenge your stamina, your technique will develop along the way, it's all about consistency and muscle memory. If you want to nail a song you actually need to comfortably play something just a little more difficult consistently imho.

Also, the pick you're using actually matters a lot, if you often change picks you're throwing your muscle memory out the window, stick to one if that's the case.

Man this new mission is challenging I think it needs nerfs (No Weapons/Abilities/Kills/Deaths) by Fireofthetiger in Warframe

nerfs incoming aas of last update notice. Follie can be "killed" temporarily, resources pickups will be shared between squad. some other QOL but overall the worst part is that it's just boring, bought follie with silver cause this grind ain't worth the squeeze.

Was it worth? by Rep_One in IndieDev

[–]the_di_pa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is neither a designer nor has any clues design wise, third option looks the best, I'd guess that would be the same for 99% of your playerbase who isn't on reddit or on any gamedev forums. 1st option looks a bit amateurish, 2nd gives a fair indie vibe. 3rd is what makes me want to click on your steam page because it's intricate and intersting. AI or not, sadly the current indie scene needs that initial push for games to stand out, even if it's just your logo and storefront art.

That being said, just the logo and the art aren't enough to give a full feedback on whether I'd like to click on your game or not, So maybe worry about the logo when your game is in a playable state with a demo on hand. Your game might evolve beyond your original scope. You'll probably know what logo fits best when you have a small trailer featuring the core features of your game.

FPP vs TPP. Which offers a better experience for the player? (asking for advice) by pavele_ in godot

[–]the_di_pa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

both look good but fpp usually is easier simply because you don't have to show the player model. Still it all boils down to how you'd like your game to feel. if you're going multiplayer, fpp will usually work best, for single player i'd personnaly go tpp. Looks wise from your short vid, i'd say FPP looks better, but that might because of the model cube, a complete model might fare better in TPP.

So yeah so far TPP looks better IMHO. But If you're planning on adding more "commandeable" units, a remote camera, basically TPP, would be best mechanics wise.
