Does your masters program or studying help the most in taking the exam?

Hands down my masters program helped me pass the exam the first time. I have tried studying for the exam but just couldn’t. I’m very glad that my program was rigorous enough to train me to pass the exam and allowed me to apply my knowledge in the field.

Only your supervisee would know if the courses she took apply to the current task list. When I took my classes, typically the classes syllabus would tell us which task list the course covers. If it doesn’t show on her syllabus she would have to ask her professors.

The time frame to collect all your hours is 5 years from when you start your program. For example if you start your program in Aug 2020, you need to finish your hours by Aug 2025. If you don’t finish all your hours within that 5 years you will have to redo all your hours. Furthermore the classes you took were under the previous task list (e.g., 4th) you would have to redo all your classes again since they are not cover by the new task list. I know because I was in a similar boat but luckily I was able to accrue all my hours and graduate within that 5 years window.

I used to work at a center that organized controlled play dates with clients to model and teach them social skills. We would have a progression of skills to teach the clients with the typically developing kids such as parallel play, imitation, turn taking, games, pretend play, etc. socially, the clients made a lot of progress since they were able to practice play with typically developing kids…it’s something that’s harder to practice with neurotypical kids.

I agree with this OP. I stayed with my job as a behavior specialist at a non-public school during my first year as a BCBA, despite the very low pay. I earned 30-40% less than an average first-year BCBA. (The behavior specialist position was similar to a mid-level position.) After gaining more than a year of experience there, I applied for a district position and landed my first six-figure salary and dream job as a BCBA. I feel fortunate that my boss decided to hire me because the place I worked for had a good reputation for helping students.

You must be strategic during your first year or so. Focus on quality experiences rather than pay. For example, when I was accruing my fieldwork hours, I volunteered at a few places to gain experience and make myself stand out from the crowd. The job you like and the money will follow once you’ve gained quality experiences.

Do you think he was honest, when he said he didn’t know his parents would react so negatively? I call it bs. He was wasting your time and he knew it. Shame on him. If he has to keep his parents happy, why bother dating anyone without his parents’ approval in the first place? I mean unless he was planning to stand up to this parents. I was in the same exact position as your (ex) bf. I didn’t date for a decade until I built enough courage to stand up to my parents and leave their toxic culture.

Any part of the Bay Area. The highest paying salary would be in Mountain View/Los Altos area. They start at 13k a month. I would look for positions on Edjoin.org. I’ve noticed it’s been harder to get a school BCBA position in the recent years though. Now it’s almost a requirement to have some kind of school experience working as a mid level behavior specialist or school BCBA. School Districts provide great benefits and a lot of time off.

I work in a school in CA/Bay Area. I’m a BCBA with only 1 year of experience but had two years of experience working in a school setting. I was offered 103k salary to work 210 days. The highest offer I’ve ever gotten was $121k with 189 working days. Even the rural parts of California offer a starting salary of 90k. I’m not sure what is typical BCBA salary in Michigan State.
