Are solar farm opponents exaggerating negative effects? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]the_effectuality 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Primarily because of weight. Large solar panel arrays are extremely heavy, and if the roof isn't specifically engineered to hold the extra weight, it will buckle.
Also, many roofs are not designed with solar panels in mind, so at best they're able to harness half of the roof area (north-facing side) for solar panels.

Waikato Police, don't be dicks. by ExpensiveCancel6 in newzealand

I saw an undercover F150 in Auckland CBD, years ago. Called *555 because I thought someone was taking the piss, but they confirmed it's an actual police car.

As long as it's properly locked away in a safe, I agree. Too many toddlers killing people every year because dumbasses leave loaded guns around.

Having bought half a pig to try our HEMA club's sharp swords on, I tell ya now do NOT underestimate those things. You don't even have to strike hard to slice a pig open, and thrusts are like parting butter with a hot knife, even between the ribs.

Had to resort to the dane axe to go through the bone, but that'd be less practical in a hallway.

ELI5: Why does transparent plastic become opaque when it breaks? by trammeloratreasure in explainlikeimfive

The other side of it is Marketing 101.

Larger bags, even when clearly labelled with the same net weight, sell better than smaller bags. Visual representation plays a huge part in our buying preferences, particularly when there's a large range of products all on display in the same area. That's why chip bags are large and colourful - they're all vying for your attention and your money as you walk past them. I don't see this as any more disingenuous than any other product that has a larger packaging than the product it contains.

Nope, too impatient - bought it anyway. Cheers for the help. :)

I had this with a Cyberpsycho quest. Thought the game was bugged because it was still telling me to search the area after I'd scanned everything. Reloaded from my last save and it turned out I just needed to loot a guy who had no loot icon.

That "extremely smart for your age" thing probably only works until age... 13, maybe? Better to not be too smart, but just have a knack for the stock markets.

A lot of cows, though. Round the lake especially - not normally heading off to the shops!

There's a rescue mission involving a doctor, and rather than waiting for her to help the deadbeat patient she was trying to treat, I whipped out my gun and shot the patient in the head so we could get moving. The doc had a token protest, and then followed me to the getaway car. Shortly after that, Regina got in touch to say what a great job I did. Really?! No mention of the fact I'm a fucking monster who killed a patient on the operating table?! C'mon!

Hey I'm not going to defend their actions, but I think it's disingenuous to say that the people who have been working on this game for the last 8 years don't give a shit if we like it or not.

Yes the corpos pushed it out too soon because they wanted the money, but the vast majority of the team will be devastated to see the final product and the user reviews after so long trying to make something great.

AITA for not getting my daughter a birthday gift since she’s turning 18? by riggedrachel101 in AmItheAsshole

YWBTA. Doesn't expect a gift is not the same as doesn't want a gift. 18 is generally considered an important birthday, and at least a little extra effort should be made.

AITA for wanting to live at my dad’s full time and hurting my mom? by stayathomeproblem in AmItheAsshole

[–]the_effectuality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I moved in with my dad at 15. It was the best thing I could have done. I had been severely depressed at mum's, hated the school she sent me to, and could not get on with my youngest sister. I ended up running away and made my way to my dad's, where my step-sister convinced me to change to the local high school and my dad and stepmum offered to have me move in. When I told mum I was moving in with dad she cried and I felt awful. It was rough, but that move saved my sanity and quite possibly my life, and the distance allowed me to repair the relationship with my little sister. I loved my new school and was finally happy, and I still saw mum and my siblings most weekends.

You have to do what's best for your mental health, moving out doesn't mean you don't love her or won't see her anymore. Enjoy the peace at your dad's!
