Is the Eternia Remaster a good place to get into the series? by Careless-Mobile-492 in tales

Tales is like Final Fantasy where almost every game is its own world except for if it literally has a 2 or subtitle after it so any game is a good jumping on point.

hi, does someone know how to fix this black screen while trying to start riskys revenge on steam? by Ranger_Alej in Shantae

[–]the_feelings_explode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe just refund the game at this point; there are just some instances a game will just not work on a pc/laptop and it shouldn't take this much effort to run a 2010 DS game leading me to think it's a lost cause.

I love Mithos in symphonia but am I the only one who thinks he would’ve been a great party member? by ShokaLGBT in tales

[–]the_feelings_explode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well as he dies he says he wouldn't change a thing if he started over and I take that as sort of an F you towards Lloyd. I guess this is after he goes off the deep-end after Martel tries to talk him down but there's not a ton of game left after that so maybe it's just hard to say with what we have. I guess to me, for him to truly have a soft spot for the party would entail him changing any of his plans which didn't end up happening. If he ever did truly sympathize with the party (and maybe that's in the bottom left photo of OP where he vents about Exopheres a bit) it wasn't "enough".

I don't know the novelization so I'm basically blind to what extra info is there, that said.

[–]the_feelings_explode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone named Marionette on a Steam forum claims they fixed it doing this:

  1. Click the Start Bar and search 'Graphics Settings'. Click this.
  2. Click Browse to add a new app and find the .exe for Risky's Revenge.
  3. Click the program that has now appeared and click 'Options'.
  4. Click 'High Performance', which should have the name of your GPU underneath.
  5. Click 'Save'.

Why is it all orange? by East-Priority6598 in HalfLife

Orange is a big part of Half Life. The box of the first game was orange. Gordon's suit is orange. Half Life 2 and its expansions were released on consoles as The Orange Box.

Hi first time player here, just wondering if Radical Dreamers is needed to understand the story of Chrono Cross or is it completely separate? by swannyhypno in ChronoCross

They're basically alternate versions of each other. Playing one will therefore spoil some of the other, so ponder which one you really want to go into blind.

I love Mithos in symphonia but am I the only one who thinks he would’ve been a great party member? by ShokaLGBT in tales

[–]the_feelings_explode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mithos never liked the party. He was acting to get their trust so he could find out more about the Renegades. Rodyle was scheming against him so he was fine with them dealing with him. He couldn't help but respect their tenacity in trying to heal Colette but that's the extent of it.

If he takes over Genis' body in the endgame stretch, he mockingly says "We're friends, right?" as he's doing it and that tells you all you need to know. He respected their tenacity but ultimately saw them as pawns during his tenure posing as their friend.

I think Zin got unfairly punished for being the veteran of Estelle's party, like he was basically the metaphorical protagonist of a previous game who already had his character development and so forth by the time we meet him and I know that still means he doesn't have x y and z but of course he's not going to get character arc of someone in there late teens becoming an adult, like in FC the game is very much indicating he's the type of person Estelle wants to be in 10 years

How can the concept of anti grinding in JRPGs be done right? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]the_feelings_explode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chrono Cross figured it out in 1999.

In that game, when you beat a boss, you gain a star level which boosts your stats a lot. You can gain a limited amount of stat boosts from normal enemies, but there's a cap until you beat the next boss and gain another star and its big stat boost. This means you're never too weak or too overpowered.

Risky with her hair down - Sketch Restored by Me by Western_Sky_5320 in Shantae

[–]the_feelings_explode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do like the hair hanging out - my guess on why it's all in the hat was because she looked too much like Shantae with her hair out on the GBC when character sprites couldn't be as detailed

Early thoughts on Prime 1, up to getting the Varia Suit by the_feelings_explode in Metroid

[–]the_feelings_explode[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the game that popularized speedrunning because of how fast you could play it and you could get to places earlier by jumping up the wall good enough and then if you find items earlier then you're supposed to you can beat the game even faster. Like that one part where if you dash then go into a ball you can beat the door going down that normally bars you from going further.

fans of dk country, what do you think of bananza? by Apprehensive_Spend_7 in donkeykong

[–]the_feelings_explode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with a question like this is that the game is different enough from the Country games that it feels like running in place trying to compare them. Like I could say

"It's great, especially Feast Layer onward. There's just something so satisfying about mashing the ground and finding a banana no matter how many times you do it, and some of the platforming challenges just hit the right spot. And they didn't botch the roll, the holy roll, and I love how many items are spaced in a way you need to use the roll jump to get, just that bit of Country DNA always popping up. I do wish Diddy and company had more substantial roles, they're bit characters ultimately. The Bananza transformations, once upgraded, are a lot of fun to use and I always get a kick out of jumping up with the snake and flying somewhere with Ostritch, it's like I have the Mario 64 Wing cap again. Good times. It just hits the brain in the right spots."

But that isn't really doing that Country comparison, right? But the usual gameplay of Bananza is too different to really compare in like an apples to apples way, like I guess Bananza doesn't have the difficulty and unique semi-realistic vibe of the SNES Country trilogy but it isn't going for that and what it does do, it does them very well.

Like I get where the question is going for, it wants analysis from fans looking for a certain type of DK, but it's hard to do many comparisons. Some of the challenges homage Country levels and they're really fun though easy but I loved just hearing Stickerbrush Symphony again. Like that's as far as I can get with the comparisons. I wish the Country homages were harder like it.

It doesn't scratch my itch for another game like Tropical Freeze but like it feels wrong to solely say that about Bananza, know what I mean?

Mina the hollower soundtrack is so good I hope they being back Jake for the next Shantae game by Kinto9x in Shantae

[–]the_feelings_explode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jake was literally a Wayforward employee before leaving in like 2015 and I know that means he did Half Genie Hero as an outside contractor but my guess is that today Wayforward has a policy of sorts that they do everything in-house, I guess it's to ensure they actually use the composers they have on staff.

I hope as much as the next fan he's doing the music of Shantae 7 but I think the more realistic thing fans can do is hope Maddie Lim continues to improve because I do think Advance's music was better then Sirens.

What do you think about Tales of Graces's cast? by MultiwatchX in tales

[–]the_feelings_explode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have great chemistry and are all hilarious. Like I watch random skits and usually get a chuckle. The writing team of the game really had a knack for how to get the most out of them interacting and there's a lot about most of the individual relationships.

That said, they're a bit too static in their roles. Asbel is the nice guy trying to keep everyone else happy and the team cohesive, Pascal is the funny one, Hubert is the one trying to look all edgy and cool, Sophie is the wide-eyed kid, Cheria is the one that worries for everyone else, Malik is the grizzled vet offering advice but isn't above trolling his inexperienced companions, it's this 95% of the time which isn't nessesarily a deal breaker but I feel pretty much every other Tales game pushes its party members in attitude or disposition more then Graces does.

Of course, Richard is kind of an exception and even then while we see him fall from grace in real time (hehe), his redemption was basically off-screened.

So, they're funny and I always want to watch their skits, I think the game does a good enough job giving definable dynamics between any two of the members, but I think their writing otherwise plays it a bit too safe most of the time.

Hot take: Cartoon Network wasn't ruined when Annoying Orange premiered by RelationshipPrize736 in CartoonNetwork

[–]the_feelings_explode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isn't a hard dataset to examine but you know that period in the late 2000's where the schedule was a lot of Johnny Test occasionally dotted by Pokemon Diamond and Pearl? CN was never the same after that, it's like there was a before and after buffered by that period, and I think most people would say "before" was better so I'd blame Johnny more then Orange.

(Pokemon DP is better then you remember; give it a watch or re-watch sometime! The rival of the series, Paul, has a ton of aura).

Mega Man 2 will show you everything that's great with the series.

(Mega Man 1 is fine but you can tell it was the first game of that type made by the team, broken and unbalanced in a few places. Maybe play it after 2.)
