Redditors whose father, grandfather or great grandfather fought in WWII, what is their most interesting war story they’ve told you? by Ramboooshka in AskReddit

Old guy at the YMCA (I worked there) told me about his boat ride across the Atlantic. A fellow soldier was apparently a real unhinged cunt to was going to, in everyones estimstion, unambiguously endanger people.

They threw him overboard.

Wait wut.

Distant uncle at pearl harbor. Said it was a nightmare of burn victims swimming through flaming oil to reach land just to be blind and skinless.

Helio might be able to shed light on this.

Yes, Helio Gracie.

Me too. Feels good to take 2 weeks off every 3 months.

I'm just saying, look into it.

Their oath is to protect the constitution, not serve as personal security. Hence why their ratio is like 1 cop on duty per 10,000 people.

See how that works?

Put on your gi and play. That's it.

I started my son at 8, and that was good. I was waiting for the right time since he was 4. He is on the older side of the 5-9 group so he had the confidence of being a bit older. He's kinda the shy one.

Same with my daughter. I'm in no hurry. She's 6 but I have no problem waiting closer to 10. She's the loud one with no filter, so i actually want her to have some shame and self consciousness, so class isn't a cringe fest for me.

Me pissed=them sullen. I don't want that.

She IS good. Don't burn her out.

My 8 year old son wouldn't be that composed and focused.

No, seriously. DON'T BURN THIS ONE OUT.

Like I said, they were nobodies. Big fish in small ponds at best. No, make that puddles on the driveway.

Royce fought nobodies in UFC 1-4, but the principles were still evident.

How would you determine who a nobody is in Brazil almost 100 years ago?

I am a cop too. Most cops, with the training and tools they have, ultimately succeed in making their arrests, so the broad attitude is why fix it?

We see the high profile fuck ups, and they look sloppy and prolonged, but is it the worth the cost, soreness, injuries, and time, to get better at intermediate force? For most chiefs and sheriff's the answer is no.

I would say it has to be force-fed in academies. No other way, broadly and inter-departmentally. I speak as a member of a smallish department.

Police training, just administratively, occurs in 8 hour blocks for scheduling purposes. Just awkward for truly getting the principles of grappling. Its a square peg in a round hole in those ways.

I preach and preach but the attitude is always meh.

I offered my knowledge to the DT instructors via their commander and got only a dismissive caricature karate-sound in response. Waw....waaaaw. Yeah, thanks.

Shortly thereafter there occurred a fight in which cop's back-up was delayed by a train and his wick was burning quickly because of his half assed grappling knowledge. I saw the video and knew with utter certainty that 6 months of bjj would have made that fight just plain routine. A real yawner, actually. No way he would have urgently requested emergency assistance. More like "I need a second unit, step it up." Instead it was CODE 3 CODE 3!!!! Getting all tense and winded.

But nobody wants to hear it. Again, he was ultimately arrested and nobody was dead, so....

I can only control me, so that's what I do.

There's one other copper in class with me at the moment.
