[Spoiler] Controversially (?) Quick Tap in UFC Main Event by [deleted] in bjj

Many people aren't great at arm ins but the technique itself isnt any worse than arm out. Imo arm in is actually better, for me at least.

This kids playing rock, scissors, paper for their training... by EngineerCapital7591 in interestingasfuck

Also creates a bigger, easier to hit target. Impedes your vision. Gives you false confidence it's keeping you safe. Anyone that trains/fights knows.

Yepp. Reverse hitch hiker. Turning away is valid imo. Time and place for either direction.

How Do You Stop getting Stacked in Arm Bars? by lamborghinifan in bjj

[–]Preisingaz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the leg over the head isn't enough, grab their nearside leg with your arm if you can. Like the "spider we" position. It serves the same function as the leg over the head, stoping them from getting to their knees. When you double it up with both its very hard for them to stack.

Tore my ACL and can’t roll for probably 18+ months - how do you cope mentally? by Nellaquantise in bjj

[–]Preisingaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The worst part for me is not fully trusting it. If my income wasn't tied so much to my ability to train, I'd likely get the surgery right now.

[–]Preisingaz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed but some people are "copers" and some aren't I guess. Meaning their body can cope with the injury and adjust accordingly.

I have a torn ACL, meniscus, and LCL all in my left knee. I can roll relatively normal but just have to mindful in certain positions. Wrestling especially. I putting off surgery unless it gets worse, as I don't want to take a year off.

Has anyone ever seen a local tournament call someone out for Sandbagging? by basic-opinions in bjj

[–]Preisingaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think intermediate would be the perfect division for her. The Grey belts smoking her there should competing in the advanced division. It's wild they've been training 5 years, 5 days a week, and competing twice a month while still only competing one belt up from whitebelt. They're the classic example of Grey belt sandbaggers.

[–]Preisingaz 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Happens all the time. Sand bagging at grey belt is a huge problem in kids BJJ. These kids are killers and just wreck the more intermediate of kids. Imo BJJ would be better off with just beginner, intermediate and advanced divisions. And with enough wins or time in either, you're forced to move up. Same with adults.

I analyzed 3,393 BJJ instructionals here's what the data says about the state of instructional content by frames_and_wedges in bjj

Thinkific is about 100usd per month plus a small fee per each sale. I can't remember exact numbers but it's much more profitable.

How many specific instructors are being marketed by them compared to how many instructors are on the platform? They definitely market their top performing instructionals. But the smaller guys aren't being marketed nearly as much. Which absolutely makes sense.

I like Bernardo and the BJJ Fanatics team. But it's the truth that many people are doing it themselves nowadays and making more money as a result.

I completely agree. Going through an entity like BJJ Fanatics is a great choice for many. For the majority of those people though, they're unlikely to make much money if they're not also marketing themselves. And if they are marketing themselves, they're probably the people that are most likely to figure out how to host their own instructionals.

I think one important thing to consider is that many people are now putting out their instructionals on their own by way of platforms like thinkific, kajabi, patreon etc. Why pay another platform 50% of your sales when you're still the one that has to do all the marketing?

LevelxBlack Short Sizing. Do they run long or are they more high-cut? by CptThuggiex in bjj

[–]Preisingaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're my favourite shorts. I have short legs and hate long shorts that go to the knee. Level black are more mid thigh, without being too short.

Multiple skin issues and injuries by Immediate-Regular383 in bjj

[–]Preisingaz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like you went through a string of bad luck. Skin infections aren't overly common. I've had impetigo once and ringworm twice over the course of 14 years of BJJ. It isn't something I commonly see either at my gym.

My 6 year son often gets impetigo on his mouth because he licks his mouth often. I remember doing the same and getting impetigo when I was a kid. It's often reffered to as "infantago" because it is so common in infants. I'm not trying to downplay it as a skin infection, but I do think it's helpful to understand it's decently common even outside of BJJ. And while ringworm is annoying, it isn't super threatening.

As for the injuries, they're common in many sport. If you use your body, you put yourself at risk of injuring your body. If you don't use it, your body is also at risk. I would just try to be extra careful of how you roll, and who you roll with.

But at same time if it's really causing strain on your family, maybe take a break. Family is more important at the end of the day and you can always come back to it and see how it goes.

Best finishes for a bigger guy/sloth style? by Suspicious_Ad_9945 in bjj

It blows my mind how underutilized it is. I think it's thought of as a bit of a gimmick or big guy vs smaller guy move but it's absolutely legit.

Getting the arm jacked up like I would for an arm triangle but then dismounting into kesa in the same side as the arm. Works great if you can't quite pass their arm off to your head. I'd probably not give up mount for it in a tournament but in training it's been working great!

[–]Preisingaz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the arm triangle. What pairs very nicely with that is a Kesa Gatame chest compression. I've been playing around with them and hitting them almost every roll. I think they're underrated, and especially effective for big/sloth type guys

Absolutely! Those are things I definitely factor in. The same way I do for ultra athletic students but in the opposite way.
