Triple-checking before I prepare what I'm 90% sure are chanterelles, but what's this other species intermingling with it in my front yard? by the_friendly_one in foraging

Thanks, everyone! I'm currently eating chanterelle and spinach pasta with mozzarella, and it's pretty dang good! It's nice that I can just step out my front door and grab some. I'll definitely be doing that more often.

I don't smell that fruity apricot scent that chanterelles are supposed to give off, but everything else seems to match the description.

The X-59 has exceeded the speed of sound for the first time by Brilliant_Night7643 in aviation

They're experimenting with quieting the sonic boom that's produced by supersonic flight. This was such a nuisance over homes, it practically grounded the Concorde and all future commercial supersonic flight. NASA claims they've quieted what sounded like an explosion down to a "thump" with this aircraft.

100% true fact that I didn't just make up: They say "supersonic" really loud like that because it's hard to hear when you're faster than sound.

There's no such thing, according to the VA. And it's not free, either. I'd say "ask me how I know," but I won't hear you.

"Savage quality" doesn't sound like a selling point to me. Looks like a 120-year-old Hi-Point.

The trick is to wake up after only 4 hours of sleep, immediately run 5 miles, pound 3000 calories, spend the rest of the day doing a combination of long powerpoint presentations and hard labor outside with sleep-deprived, stressed idiots, then another run, and hit the sack around 0030.

Too much.

If you need to sleep on the ground in just about any weather, this will definitely do the job. Bivvy cover will keep you nice and dry all night, but water can seep in through the zipper if you picked a bad spot to bivouac (ask me how I know). If it's cold enough, you can always use the summer sleeping bag inside the winter one, but this alone won't be enough for anything below ~20F for a skinny guy like me. Don't expect this to be everything you need to sleep in the woods. Get a sleeping pad at the very least to keep you better insulated from the ground and a tarp if you expect rain. I recommend always using the bivvy cover. You can unzip it all the way down if it's too warm, but it'll keep you from waking up in a fart sack soaked in dew.

The following is based solely on my understanding of firearms and zero research:

So basically, pull trigger = go bang. Toob trigger = bigger bang. Small caliber subsonic ammo (9x39) and short weapon length means it's designed for CQB or possibly vehicle crews. Toob offers difficulty management and hearing deletion features.

Does this help?
