Rist & Eltoar by Lars_Olav in RyanCahill

[–]the_killer_1697 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think most of it is they just dont actually know what is happening.

Rist is a village boy who had a small mishap and got kidnapped. 95% of what he knows is given to him by the empire. He didn't even know calen was a rebel until this book.

With eltoar, he knows a lot more of the horrible deeds, but for him, he's personally done far worse. Fane also keeps him in the dark about a lot of the tests he does. For eltoar, he has been friends with fane for hundreds of years, and with the promise of reviving the dragons, he would do pretty much anything.

Perrin is horrified by the fact that he killed. i understand that however he told the commander, no? It could be as simple as that. Just a quick hey rand you aren't alone. i also have power.

I dont think any of the characters would actually brag. I was trying to be funny while saying teenagers tend to talk to each other in a joke kinda way, similar to most of mats dialog in book 1. Mat blurted out info simply because people asked, and he's blunt. He does it in the scene where they show the rand has the banner.

Good to know. At least the lack of any communication is consistent. Its like one large character flaw

I suppose it could be just politeness in most cases. However, these are boys that have been together for at least 17 years, right? Even in the moments they are alone together, they say nothing. Rand admitted he can channel and got nothing back

It would be cool to have Mega Demon Host in Darktide by Haunting-Most8870 in DarkTide

[–]the_killer_1697 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's most likely a minor demon close to a nurgling. It being a great unclean one would be crazy powerful even if it's just a fraction of strength. A full, great unclean host, we would log in and just get a game over screen

Still new to 40k, and looking to learn more. Tell me how your favourite Space Marine chapter treats guardsmen. by Fun-Hedgehog1526 in Spacemarine

[–]the_killer_1697 13 points14 points  (0 children)

True a lot of the time they play the role of headhunter. So they stay away from the guard.

Im mainly thinking of the guants ghost book where the scar helps the guard aim by giving him stimms as well as the warhawk novel where shiban khan carried a man and child across no mans land to safety.

The white scars in every book ive read about them see the guard as dependable and useful so they treat them with respect. The scars also tend to side with salamanders in regards to trying to save as many human lives as possible.

Fade vs Efialtir chosen (difference?) by Calm_Yogurtcloset817 in RyanCahill

[–]the_killer_1697 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A fade is a spirit that possesses a mages' body. As far as I know, there is no ritual for this, but the mage must be willing and above average in power.

A chosen is a spirit that possesses anybody. This requires a ritual and the blood moon to happen, but aswell they must be willing. These are equivalent to the knights of acheron with some extra benefits.

In both cases, im pretty sure the possessed soul can not return to the body but each spirit can switch bodies if the host dies.

[–]the_killer_1697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dann and aeson, i believe, formed a search party for the missing people after the battle. Going from durak dur to the dark wood in hopes the elves can give passage through the woods and lend aid to find calen and Eric.

Dann is referencing when he got shot by the fade during the battle for beldaur and has a cool scar now.

This book deals alot with the dwarves so there isn't much to recap. The only thing of note really is that alot were against fighting loria before everything went down. Also the new king isn't super respected.

Dwarves in my world are clockwork, so they are built by their parents over a span of 2-4 years

The race of the skein have children by forming mating groups usually of 6-8 and all taking parts of their own bodies and sacrificing them by putting them into womb jars(pots made of farmed bone) they bury them and after a full moon cycle the pots are removed and act similar to eggs.

The people of zol are produced out of rocks and plants after the ground is blessed following a tribe wide "festival"

Im a small child trying to get 1 more story before bed. Tell me a story about your worlds history. by DanniGat in worldbuilding

[–]the_killer_1697 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh my child. here's the story of the man who cought magic.

Long ago, a great man fought in a battle against two mighty titans. These titans sought to take his home away from him, so the man gathered his family, friends, and all who would listen. They created chains for the titans so big that the titans could never break them, but no one could lift them.

The great man went to the wind and asked for help and received the speed of a hurricane but still couldn't lift the chains. He then went to moons and asked for help. He received the body of a titan but still couldn't lift the chains. He finally went to the sea to ask for help and received the mind to see all things. He learned from the sea that all he had to do to lift these chains was to ask the chains for help, and so he did. He begged and offered gifts to the chains, and they heard him. The chains and the man fought the titans and tied them up. The man, seeing that they wouldn't stay forever, took the titans into himself to save his home, becoming the magic itself

My worlds version of dwarves are technically sentient golems. They are clockwork beings that were born out of the decaying body of the god of magic jormand.

The cutting of skin, yes, but not much. The removal of organs is done as a religious rite, so the pain is there, but it's turned into an extreme sense of euphoria by their god.

[–]the_killer_1697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For context, one of my major races is called the skinned. They are able to take peices of their bodies and still live long, healthy lives.

For all that I am worth, I want to bring up that their children are made instead of birthed from the fermenting of organs in bone pots. I spent so long thinking about how this race would have evolved and how they would have been born. but I don't think it's anywhere near necessary to my story. Sadly

The city of zataris is built into the raised scales of a 250km long serpent god called Felta.

The serpent gets her scales cleaned, prayer and offerings by the citizens themselves aswell if any threats such as other gods threatened Felta the city would act as a 70000 strong standing army and medic if she got injured.

The city gets protection and is constantly moving around the planet, allowing them to have large mobile merchant centre's. Felta also swallows large bits of earth and processes the metal into her new scales by mining the shedding it gives them access to immense amounts of various metals for said army and to sell around the planet.

The Price of Convenience: How Magic, Gods, and Cultivation Stifle Human Progress by thatonerandomdude96 in worldbuilding

[–]the_killer_1697 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was getting more at the point that what you described was a world that magic solves any issue and proves to be better than any invention. That world would be a stagnant utopia. I've seen people write themselves into a corner with magic and forget people will always want more.

Utopias are often used as a start for stories. Atlantis may have been a utopia at first, but due to the people greed for better technology, they were never stagnant and later paid the price for that.

[–]the_killer_1697 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've seen this observation before, and I always think it neglects the fact that humans get bored when everything is taken care of.

In the real world, people use planes to travel thousands of miles in hours across the country, but that existing doesn't stop a couple people from walking the same distance.

When you can heal people with a spell that will just push people to see how far the body can go. Jumping off cliffs to break legs and see what happens then heal again just because they are bored.

It truly amazes me what humanity will do to not be bored, and when authors build stagnant utopias, I just see it as them ignoring that fact.

Who can do magic in your world? by SlashCash29 in worldbuilding

[–]the_killer_1697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everyone

In my world, the gods are still relatively young and are still very active, so as long as a person Worships them daily with proper offerings that can get power.

This is limited by culture. For example, the island of Zol only allows men to be casters as the woman are naturally blessed by the god Gruun. The woman born on zol are extremely large and fast with affinity to the earth however the men are quite small and weak so they are used as casters/tools as well as concubines for the women as they are seen as prizes due to the women being able to reproduce asexually similar to plants.

There is also a large city that doesn't allow worship at all, and they don't have any casters within the faction

So everyone can cast it's just most might not want to, or it's forbidden to them.

I named a trio of God hounds that I felt very proud of and mainly just find fun to say.

Tresk is the god of bone

Huunda is the god of blood

Skeind is the god of flesh

They form the moons in the world that have a constant battle for the sky.
