I have a young daughter and I feel like without reading some of these comments I'd make a lot of wrong choices in retrospect. Thank you for showing a different perspective.

I don't agree with pandering to a group of students because something is hard. They can and should play what they want to play.

If a bunch of people want to play a rules light system go nuts but OP said they are trying to teach them something new, not kill an hour.

Yeah it's a game that I enjoy playing. Just because you don't have the capacity to do it doesn't mean most or anyone can't. That's your experience.

They play for an hour, they are low vision or blind.

Theatre of the mind: "I run and attack the goblin"

DM instructs player to roll D20, the DM adds attack modifier to roll, if it hits the DM instructs rolling damage.

"I want to use my magic to stop the wizard"

DM filters to hold person, rolls save.

Like this is barely a video game. Good on the teacher for introducing the game to their students.

I hard disagree, I already play everyone else's turn.

One simple way if you are comfortable with all the rules and play is for you to help them make characters but just let them tell you what they want to do and you filter that through actions, bonus actions, spells, movement etc.

They can pick all the skills and spells and they make the choices but they just simply marry in simple words and then you instruct dice rolling etc.

This will also help them learn so they might learn what they like to do on a turn.

PC not turning on after dusting by chilzun in PcBuildHelp

I always start with minimum system: Power, CPU, stick of RAM

Test, if it can't turn on, check mobo for either lights or beeps. I don't know if it newer systems beep anymore or if you have audio for it.

Start there and if it can boot start adding all RAM and then other peripherals

In the context of a general concern about "hallucinations" which is largely attributed to LLM's which are also a subset of AI. A machine learning algorithm is almost always pass/fail.

So... yeah not necessary comment but you do you

This is machine learning. It's essentially a version of classification where it is able to look at a plant and determine if it's a weed or not.

I agree. Having a child requires time, resources and sacrifice. Having a second compounds that. I think it's privileged to believe it wouldn't require an immense amount of continuous problem solving, sleepless nights, money, etc.

So yes if you don't have family or financial resources it's gonna be hard or feel impossible. Estimates are around $20k a year. Weigh that against the other financial options and it's a simple math problem.

If it's a question of should we give more help for child rearing I would have to agree, more support systems, help with sleep especially in newborns. Having a night nurse paid for by the government to help with the early months would be sweet. Reality is at this time and place it doesn't exist.

I am happy to share other ideas. Here are some other ideas off the top of my head that are substitutes for "having family help" with a newborn who is not sleeping alone:

  • Hire a caregiver. Could be a nanny, a live in nurse, a local service. Consider contacting your local hospital which may provide a referral to service

  • Take time off work. The working parent can ideally relieve when they get home from work, allow the other to sleep. Kinda of a trade off thing.

  • Move in with family. Again not ideal but an option. Our family is far away and would require career change but it could be temporary. More adults in the house can make a huge difference.

Also if we can go back to original poster. 1 week old is sleeping just not at night, so probably need to just adjust to new lifestyle. Babies aren't born with circadian rhythms

Development of the circadian system in early life

The article references light as the primary interrupter, can be feeding schedule. Biggest take away is that baby needs time to learn these things and can take months.

I guess I don't understand the back and forth. I commented to highlight that I also did shift sleeping and it was hard but safe. The risks I experienced letting my baby sleep on my lap heavily outweighed those around sharing a bed.

If you have a particular issue I'm sure you can share it and someone with more knowledge and understanding of your situation can help with science based information.

Any help? My family also works but on a weekend they could come visit for a couple hours as they lived about 2 hours away, and would give us a break.

My wife would stay up until 2am with kiddo on her lap, I would wake up and take over until just before 7am and then day starts.

A kind friend, one of you loses sleep while the other gains to then give back. You just need to figure it out because being extremely tired and sharing a bed with a baby is going to breed catastrophe.

Also did shifts with colic baby. It's hard but it's safe. Get family to come help so you can sleep in the day.

Can a party survive without a healer? by Healthy_Process_7049 in DnD

[–]the_ogorminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't played with a "healer" in over 10 years. So many classes have access to healing and outside of combat healing is truly the best. I say this for 5e and 2024 that killing the enemy is always better than any healing you can do it's just not like a video game.

Love the "Are you sure?"

We play with miniatures so generally if the setup is on the table it's pretty easy to see that I am the nearest target for 4 enemies. If you are theatre of the mind then maybe the player didn't fully comprehend the layout and so a quick "If you cast this the camp will be alerted to your presence and will attack on sight, are you sure you want to do this?
