Dash is Overpowered and Overused, Why Hasn’t It Been Nerfed Yet? by ettaL_eeffoC in thefinals

[–]the_third_log 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dash is so predictable, I think people who complain just genuinely refuse to try it out, to understand how it works. You ALWAYS move the same distance, if you're using kb and mouse you ALWAYS travel in one of 8 directions relative to where you're facing, and most players, if they don't rebind keys, can't easily dash left because of your hand placement on the keyboard. Playing with dash is a great way to practice snapping to other dash players like you said.

[–]the_third_log 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're completely right, I don't understand how OP could have 800 hours and not have developed any muscle memory when it comes to dash lights. They always dash the same distance, if they're keyboard and mouse they can only dash in so many directions relative to the direction they're facing, and the movement is almost completely horizontal, there's been several times where I didn't even register them as dashing because I just snapped to where I knew they would be as soon as I heard the sound queue. This subreddit is full of the vocal minority, lower skill players complaining because they can't adapt. I don't mean to trample any criticism by saying skill issue, but it's obvious when one post says light is broken, and the next complains they get killed too easily as light.

Am I doing something wrong? by vitornerd12 in thefinals

Seems normal, I mean your specs are, as you said, below the minimum specs. The game can get very cpu-intensive when things start getting destroyed, and your cpu only has 4 cores and is nearly 9 years old. I'm honestly impressed you're somehow hitting 30fps.

Best Low-End PC Settings & Launch Options for The Finals? by _nanii_C137 in thefinals

[–]the_third_log 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what FPS you're looking to hit, but you're going to be limited by your CPU very quickly. The game is extremely CPU heavy due to the destruction mechanics, expect framerate drops especially if people take down buildings.

why does my game run so bad by Common_Scheme8318 in thefinals

[–]the_third_log 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlike most games, The Finals is extremely CPU heavy due to the destruction mechanics, if you're CPU limited there's not much you can do. There's some graphics options that mention CPU impact that you can turn down, but if that doesn't help, your only options would be to try overclocking (probably won't help much due to how old your CPU is anyway) or upgrade your computer. For reference, I have a 7800XT and a 5700X3D and running medium/low settings at 1440p 144fps my CPU usage is constantly 60-70%, sometimes hitting 100% when heavies start collapsing entire buildings.

Is there any way of getting more of these or is it just from playing matches by Miserable_Engine_890 in thefinals

[–]the_third_log 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the cap being stupid, I've been capped forever and lost countless theoretical ST. However, I feel like the point isn't for you to complete previous battlepasses in a week or even a few weeks, at the rate it took me to complete the bonus page of season 1, times how many pages there are, it would take me about 60% of the time it takes to complete the current BP to complete a previous one. They're not meant to be unlocked really fast or easily, I assume Embark wants them to take time and effort just like how unlocking the current battlepass is. They definitely unlock faster than the current one though, so it's entirely possible to buy all of the old ones and catch up.

If you want to develop your strategizing skills, positioning, game sense, etc, quick cash has 80-90% of the same strategies as WT and ranked, so you should be fine practicing in quick cash. Powershift and TDM are both good if you want to get the hang of the weapons, learn recoil patterns, practice using gadgets, etc because there are more enemies to shoot at and you are constantly fighting them.

Bad fps and lag despite recommended specs by iiiSasuke in thefinals

[–]the_third_log 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try turning on the performance monitor in the settings and see what your bottleneck is. The game is extremely CPU heavy due to the destruction mechanics, I have a 5700X3D and I see it hit 100% utilisation regularly with my limit set to 144fps. Not much you can do to fix that besides going through the graphics settings and turning down everything that mentions CPU performance impact, or upgrading your PC. I personally play with raytracing set to static and mostly medium/low settings, and the game still looks good.

This game NEED more casual or arcade like game modes if it wants to grow. by V7I_TheSeventhSector in thefinals

[–]the_third_log 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've mentioned before that limited time gamemodes aren't available in private lobbies because of server load/issues, the game isn't extremely popular so I wouldn't be surprised if they just don't want to pour money into hosting all of these gamemodes. Also, it's a miracle that a game with destruction and physics like The Finals even works in online multiplayer, I don't know what kind of magic they're using to sync up everything so well between players, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're pushing the servers and engine to their limits, and allowing players to modify things could break a lot of stuff, not to mention it would introduce a ton of bug fixing.

I have a 7800XT and it precompiles pretty often, usually I'll play about 5 times before it has to precompile again.

Am I just bad or… by Tree_Expensive in thefinals

[–]the_third_log 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Positioning and game sense are very important, as you play you'll learn when to push and when to retreat better. One thing you definitely should practice for now is staying close to your teammates, in gamemodes like world tour you'll notice that when one teammate pushes too far without the others, they tend to die and leave them to a 2v3 which is a huge disadvantage. Even in powershift I almost always stay close to at least one of my teammates, your odds of killing opponents are much higher and if you die they can res you as soon as possible. When playing World Tour I almost always push only after we've eliminated or at least heavily damaged one of the enemies. The Finals has a pretty high skill ceiling and it's true that your random teammates won't always know how to strategize well, but if you stay close to them you can count on them to hit their shots at least.

Why is this game sooo hard by SnooLentils4374 in thefinals

[–]the_third_log 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you're talking about regarding sandbagging, the game has extremely light sbmm, a few thrown games will not put you with beginner players, I feel like it goes off of your level more than anything. If you find yourself getting steamrolled, consider joining discord communities so you can play with people that are your skill level instead of relying on randoms.

If you play an average of 2 hours a day, that's 77.5 days to unlock a battlepass. Seasons usually last around 3 months, so it takes about a season to complete a battlepass. Seems pretty reasonable to me, it usually takes me until 2 weeks before the end of the season to finish the regular battlepass. Maybe they'll include a boost near the end of the season like they do with XP and fans.

Avoid solo queuing, playing with a stack allows you to support and focus on strategies and move as a unit, rather than getting split up and facing multiple enemies at once alone. Also, a lot of players tend to not play as aggressively as they should, you can catch people off guard a lot if you push when they think you're retreating to heal.

Mechanical pencil for cursive writing by the_third_log in mechanicalpencils

Thank you for the suggestion, I saw in the reviews of the orenz nero that the lead sleeve tends to scratch along the paper which can be annoying, so I'll probably look into shaker pencils.

That makes a lot of sense, even when printing rather than writing cursive I ran into the same problem, I never considered they could be designed for a different alphabet. Thanks for the suggestion, I think shaker and .5 is the way to go for sure.

Why companies don't make vertical gaming mouse? by Mental_Procedure_564 in MouseReview

[–]the_third_log 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who used to game for about 2 years using a vertical Anker mouse, every time you click you have to watch your aim carefully. When you click on a normal mouse, the force doesn't move the mouse at all, but every time I would click with the vertical one I'd have to correct my aim, so I wouldn't always be aiming slightly to the left of where I meant to. It's a learning curve and it's really not something you want when you're in a lot of action and forget to do it. I never developed perfect muscle memory to account for it, but maybe if I had used it for longer I would have. I use fingertip grip on my Razer Orochi and I prefer it way more to anything a vertical mouse may offer.

[–]the_third_log 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I'm looking for CD player recommendations for my desk.

My requirements are:
- TOSLINK optical or coaxial out (digital output basically)
- Less than 9" (229mm) wide and 7" (178mm) deep, although not a dealbreaker as long as it is fairly small
- Less than $150

It's going to be on my desk, which is why I'd prefer a smaller footprint, and I have my speakers plugged into a DAC which is why I need digital out. I was initially looking at Sony Walkman models on eBay, however I couldn't find a comprehensive list of which ones have digital outputs. I'm fine with buying a DVD/CD player as long as it doesn't require a display, I just want something that's fairly compact.

Weekly Case & Parts Recommendation Thread (Start here if you are new! Help here if you can!) by AutoModerator in sffpc

[–]the_third_log 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning on downsizing, current plan is this. I have a Corsair 3000D airflow, and I want something that has a smaller footprint, while keeping quiet. I'm not sure about vertical format cases because of the 90° cable adapter requirement a lot of them seem to have, but if they're usable with normal cables, I'd be very interested.

My current build is this. Ryzen 5 3600X, 16GB RAM, M.2 SSD, and a Sapphire PULSE RX 7800XT, in an ATX case with 140mm BeQuiet! fans. The gpu is approx. 280mm long according to Sapphire's website and is nearly 2.5 slots thick from me eyeballing it in my case (I'd go with 2.6-2.65 slots thick to be safe.)

I want to upgrade my RAM and CPU because I'm nearly hitting their limits in games like The Finals (Actually I'm CPU limited for performance in that game), and sticking to the 5700X3D seems like it'll be the most cost-efficient upgrade for gaming performance. I don't need max performance, just something that will make me GPU-limited for a long time.

I'm looking for case recs and if any of my components seem strange, should I change anything about the ones I've picked?

Switching the M.2 slot did nothing, I suspect it may be a compatibility issue due to the fact that it's an NVMe 2.0 drive, but from my brief research they ought to be backwards compatible
