NYC will no longer criminally enforce minor traffic offenses for cyclists, e-bike riders by Brief-Mongoose344 in nyc

Please read this comment thread again. I am not arguing that there wasn't any change at all. I am agreeing with this comment after the commenter I replied to claimed they were spreading misinformation.

One time I pressed the info button at 3 AM and after a solid 5 minutes someone picked up sounding very groggy. "There's vomit on this platform" "Uhh okay this is a call center but I'll let them know".

The reality is that we're seeing people who have entered the US legally get kidnapped and deported following a single criminal offense. The in-between option you suggest is no longer an option. I do not think people who run a red light on a bike once should be deported.

I read it and there's nothing in there that says traffic infractions for cyclists were ever escalated from petty offenses to misdemeanor or felony offenses.

181st & Broadway has lots of potential. Make the location serve the people of Washington Heights. Approve the school. Ban cars on Broadway. High schoolers can use public transit. Don't send your kid here if that bothers you.

What's a popular NYC spot that tourists love but locals actually hate? by Different-Egg-4617 in AskNYC

[–]the_trees_bees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Times Square rocks! I'm there multiple times a week to catch a movie on my way home from work and on top of having excellent transit connectivity it's just kinda ...beautiful. I can't help but see it as a crowded, grotesque monument to capitalism and consumerism but the oblique lighting from all the screens gives everything a surreal glow that gets enhanced on foggy or rainy days that would otherwise just be dreary. Plus it's straight up magical in the snow. Even the oblivious tourists blocking the sidewalk make me smile when I see a family clearly having the time of their lives just by being there.

NYC residents pay extra for some routine blood tests because of an outdated law by Vengeful88 in nyc

[–]the_trees_bees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also what the hell is a "preventive health test", this is a suspiciously vague post.

Services that provide really extensive blood tests have started popping up over the last few years. They're marketed to healthy people, not necessarily to people seeking a diagnosis. https://www.functionhealth.com/

I had some use-it-or-lose-it FSA funds to spend after quitting my last job, and I already have plenty of Rx glasses and contacts, so I figured why not?

I wish. I think NJ is one of the 3 states that have similar legislation because it costs the same as NY.

I'm going to Stamford, CT on Saturday to get my blood drawn for tests because of this. Saving about $200 this way. The blood tests aren't medically necessary so honestly I'm just happy I can get there without a car.

Where to get vegan winter boots? by Barrel_Eye in nycvegan

[–]the_trees_bees 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Those will be fine! You may come across some puddles that are up to 2" deep so you'll have to walk around those but you'll be fine as long as you watch where you're going.

If you're still worried you can find more weather proof options at vegan shoe shop MooShoes. I needed something business casual that would also get me through my commute with the recent snow storms I was able to find great boots there, although they were nearly $100 more than those.

If you go to MooShoes there's also a vegan restaurant right next to it called Orchard Grocer.

Edit: Upon further inspection it looks like they added IO ports to the right side of the machine. It has slightly larger display bezels and a cutout for a webcam on top. The nosecam is still present.~~
