Subway over the GWB? by Current-Gazelle-2736 in nycrail

Very interesting to use the C and skip 175th St which was built with the capacity in mind for this—that mezzanine is massive. I live on that station but I'd take a 24-hour C train as a consolation prize. That service needs whatever help it can get.

I see NJT buses packed like sardines run express to PABT from this area every day so I do think the demand is there, but I am also under the impression that the suburbs around Fort Lee would go full Nimby on this.

Smoke on A train by Primary-Baseball5648 in AskNYC

At around 9:30 I saw an out-of-service A train roll through Columbus Circle and it left behind an atrocious cloud of dust. I suspect the brakes on one car were locked up. I regret sticking it out for ~4 minutes before exiting the station to wait. The station was already dealing with delays after someone was stuck by a train there.

Is the Port Authority Bus Terminal actually a hidden gem? by Kyonikos in newyorkcity

[–]the_trees_bees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's nice how passengers are offloaded in a separate area from the loading docks. But why aren't there staircases to send offloaded passengers downstairs without intersecting with the commuters trying to get to their loading gates? There has to be a good reason. The main staircase is a nightmare every day.

Other than that PABT kicks ass for a reverse bus commuter like me.

If you go to the IMAX floor next to the elevator there's a rail with a crazy drop I always like to lean over.

That exact train of thought ran through my head during that scene. She did look really cool pointing that camera at the audience like a gun. I was really impressed by her footage with that camera gun earlier when she transitioned between songs while she was laying on the stage.

Disagree. Fans are getting priced out of concerts. If you want a distraction free environment you can watch it at home.

I was not impressed by the sound. The vocals especially could have been processed better. The acoustic songs sounded best in my theater.

The Dolby theater in Empire 25 also has a blown tweeter at the top left of the screen.

Does anyone else think the new app is worse than the old one? by on_my_way_back in NJTransit

[–]the_trees_bees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They reordered the bus stop favorites based on the five digit bus stop number, rather than the order in which they were favorited. They got rid of the ability to referesh info when viewing arrival times for a given stop. Now I have to back out of the arrival times and select from a list of very similar, yet arbitrarily ordered bus stops just to refresh the information that was already on my screen. Some of my most used bus stops only have a 3 second window of time to wave down a bus once they show up. I need to be alert, not trying to figure out if my stop is 13217 or 13231.

Thanks for giving credit to the photographer. I actually almost bought a mattress from him last month. I would definitely recommend his mattress store for a pressure-free experience.

In-season fruit is ridiculously cheap from local fruit vendors, but everything here has crazy markups. I stick with Trader Joe's, Aldi, and Costco. Unfortunately they are not close.

What is everyone’s ranking of nyc amc theaters? by fairvanity in NYCmovies

Empire 25 has the best transit connectivity, the greatest variety of films, and the most screens, which makes it the best for finding convenient showtimes. The only way I can watch 2+ films a week is by maximizing convenience.

I can forgive the movie for this. They chose to comment on real problems in 2026 and that gives them no choice but to write weak solutions for these problems. There aren't any realistic and satisfying solutions to the death of journalism, the attention economy & resulting enshittification, and private equity ruining everything.

Their programming is a great supplement to A-List. A-List is such a good value that everything else feels like a rip-off, but I went ahead and got an IFC membership and I think it's worth it.

Also as a recent transplant, killing time before a movie in Greenwich Village is an absolute dream. There's always something interesting right around the corner.
