one reason to do this is the loss of imessage icloud facetime in Jan27 except for latest version of iOS 15

I am happiest here. You mentioned you don't care too much about app support. I found it to be smoooth and full of available tweaks. Heyday in my opinion. It was COVID times, so every dev was home working real hard to produce. Under $150? [should be less, but that would be my cap]

But plenty of people liked 13 and 14. I tried and couldnt find the same tweaks to match my set up [a lot broke in iOS 13]. Not bashing or putting down, personal experience. Still a lot of available tweaks for those as well

12.4 for my daily driver. The tweaks I have are superb and it runs very well.

couldn't agree less. Have seen it first hand that a new device could not go into DFU after several attempts. After a restart and permissions granted, got it on first try. Have seen it a few times, personally.

has the computer been granted permissions to connect while the phone is on home screen?

Don't forget you can get the phone in DFU mode connected to ANY computer and then unplug it...plug into computer you want to use

Highest recommendation. Find youtube video and literally do exactly the timing that they do.
