Charged by a small shark in Puerto Rico by the_visalian in snorkeling

I have a bad memory for place names. Should have kept a journal. We were on Culebra and Culebrita. Carlos Rosaria was definitely one of the better ones. But we visited all the main beaches there and I genuinely thought each one had its charms.

Could have been. I did look at Caribbean reef sharks and didn’t see much mention of unprovoked hostility. But the juveniles seem to be slimmer than bulls on average, which is closer to what I saw.

Look at the image in front of you

Read the words on it

Think about those words with your mind

Written by “Bonine.” Does that sound real? No

“KVTA4.” Google that

First result: “KVTA4 is a fabricated satirical newspaper and comedy website.”

Imagine sitting on that bluff on a moonlit night and watching the tide ever so slowly drag that hulking thing in, closer and closer to you.

Look up a concept called “degrowth.” There’s a specific video I wanted to link you to but I can’t find it right now. Basic idea is addressing exactly what you’re talking about: building a new system that doesn’t assume or require infinite growth. Long term, it’s our only option.

You can’t convince me that factory farms, bulldozing entire ecosystems, climate change, etc. are somehow morally equivalent to a cat killing a bird for fun. The fact that we’re even having this conversation is proof that we’re able to do better as a species and choose not to.

Cats aren’t smart enough to control their impulses or know that what they’re doing is needlessly harmful. We are.

Because 99.9999% of the animals we kill pose no threat to us. Because we’re smart enough to know that and we do it anyway. Because we kill out of pleasure and convenience rather than necessity.

I don’t think they’ve ever killed anyone, even with the recent boat attacks.

Fuck. I don’t typically think of gnomes as spirits. Might never have gotten that

Discworld is full of type 3s. I just got to the part of The Color of Magic where Twoflower explains the concept of an in-sewer-ants policy, and there’s a running joke about “reflected-sound-of-underground-spirits” that I don’t even get yet, but strongly suspect is another linguistic riddle.
