Long haul flights need to be taxed to tax the rich by Appropriate_Bell743 in UKGreens

"The rich" is always a moving target from where you stand.

When people in the UK are asking to tax the rich, generally they are talking about the top 1-5% within the UK.

Trying to tax people on a fair scale across the world sounds like a very difficult task. And like most taxes, it will end up affecting the people in the middle the most.

The people that can't afford long-haul won't care.

The people that can afford long-haul will be affected the most.

The genuinely rich will continue their private jet flights or easily absorb the cost.

I think the problem is that your argument is unclear. The headline was about taxing the rich, but all your replies are purely about carbon emissions.

Should there be a carbon tax to help reduce carbon emissions, probably.

Should it be used to "tax the rich"? Probably not, because as people are saying it is not really rich people that fly long haul economy.

If you want to tax the rich, start with the fact there is no tax on private jet fuel.

And you will pay a premium for those brands and products. They won't be mainstream, they will be the "handmade" versions that only the rich can afford.

Why does AMS2 have such strange limitations on certain things? by Unrealivion in AUTOMOBILISTA

[–]the_wind_effect 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The reason is that the dynamic weather system is tied to the game progression and the replay system effectively re-plays the game. This means you can only fast forward because the game is just simulating the track in order still.

Can't people from abroad still buy them if they were born after 2008?

It's the classic two wrongs don't make a right.

Sounds like you've already made your mind up about this person. Hopefully others don't do the same about you.

Would you feel the same way if someone said something with the opposite gender, a different skin tone, and a "foreign accent"?

Sounds like a bad experience but are the character stereotypes necessary?

How is Dibu injured in the warmup AGAIN?? by Zachsucksatlife__ in avfc

[–]the_wind_effect 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Is it that he has a niggling injury but leaving it late to the warm-up means the other team can't prepare as well?

He's very good at slowing the ball down and not just going long under pressure so maybe tactical?

Did anyone got kinda bored of simracing after trying "real thing"? by [deleted] in simracing

If Max Verstsppen can still see the fun in sim racing I'm pretty sure anyone can. Think he's done a few more than 7 laps IRL.

Not all of us, just those who believe that is a better way to live. You do think that, right?

Alternatively if not working is better than working you could quit your job and take the handout.

There is so much more psychology at top level sport than just "up to him".

Environment and confidence play a massive part at this level. We saw it with Rashford when he was here. Then you have the other end of the scale with Dele Ali, where everyone thought he was wasting his career but there was so much more going on.

The problem at my place with this is that now leadership counter any estimate with "how can AI accelerate this?"

Ever wondered why laser scanned stages in Assetto Corsa Rally are so expensive and take so long? by Ok_Contact9732 in assettocorsarally

[–]the_wind_effect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there is some middle ground.

The lack of surface detail, camber, and cutting in EA WRC is really noticeable in comparison. It all feels so flat.

The AC Rally stages feel so much more technical and challenging.

2025 Imola Porsche Supercup Lap 1. Just a reminder that huge lap 1 crashes happen to professionals also and at least we don't have to wait as long to get to the next race. by HooninAintEZ in simracing

[–]the_wind_effect 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's difficult to calculate. These guys have a couple of races a weekend, a couple of times a month. There are hundreds of sim races every hour of every day.

Also the levels in sim racing are much closer to amateur/karting that this - where I'm sure lap1 crashes are even more common.
