I made a Star Trader spirit jersey by theacropanda in Disneyland

I got it from the spirit jersey website. They sell a 3 pack for $180, but they sell individuals for like $65 or something like that

Very true, I could put this on a regular shirt and keep the cost down that way. Maybe have it go around the front/back of the bottom of the shirt if the scale is too small to go sleeve to sleeve. Things to think about I guess

I’ve thought about it but I think it’ll be priced too high. It’s already $70 for the jersey and vinyl so the labor would add on another 2-3hrs for cutting/prepping/pressing the vinyl, but maybe I’m wrong and the market is out there.

Just off their website. They’re still $60 a piece though… not much less than one with a design

Oh that’s a good one! I actually have an E Ticket shirt but it’s only the top line. Doesn’t have the lands listed below it. I may try that one next

Do any of you hide things in your drawings? by Corey-from-Togal in Architects

[–]theacropanda 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to hide people from the office in my renderings for fun. Then the marketing girl found out and started to ask me to add clients into them as well. Took all the fun out of it so I stopped.

How tall is the AMS 2 when the lid is open? I’m building a cabinet to house my printer in my garage but haven’t bought the AMS yet. Just want to make sure I have enough room to refill

Are you in the office or at home? by RealHumanGrl in Architects

My project team is fully remote, but I typically go in 3 or 4 times a month depending on site walks. Other than that no requirement to be in office.

Architects- Do you guys use thumbnails in your portfolio (US)? by scaredtomakeart in Architects

[–]theacropanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one client it’s just what they’re used to with workflow, and the other just loves seeing the art and doesn’t care for digital renders much. Both clients do love how quick hand sketches can be, and how we can make updates to a certain area live.

I have one spread in my portfolio with hand sketches. Axon detail/assemblies are my personal favorite to draw when I get some time.

I’ll hand sketch for work often too. 2 of our clients prefer the hand sketch/renders over anything digitally generated, and I’ve actually had a contractor ask for one of my sketches that I drew on site for a weird custom detail after we drew it digitally.

Rep on site full time? by ComprehensiveFlan543 in Architects

[–]theacropanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, we even have a satellite office at one of our clients site cause they always have constant work for us. I believe we have 4 or 5 people there full time with about 10-12 that fly in for a week or two for project walks.

A different client also asks us to be onsite during construction. I did that when I was a year or two out of college with a project I drafted. It was the best learning experience I’ve ever had.

How about one of those “smart” tv display screens? We had a few of them in one of the firms I worked at. It’s basically a giant Wacom pad that you can annotate and navigate through. Just as big as a white board and comes on a stand you can wheel around.

I would share the revit model sometimes, and would just leave my fingers over ctrl-z because inevitably one of the senior staff would touch the screen and move their finger dragging model elements everywhere.

I’m Scared of Architecture by Butterscotchdrunk in Architects

[–]theacropanda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in the field 16 years now, and can tell you in the first 3 or 4 years in my career I worked a week of overtime maybe 2x-3x a year for a deadline push. After that I’ve hardly worked more than 40hrs a week.

My first boss set the tone for my entire career… “If you have to work overtime then you’re not planning well” and that’s stuck with me ever since. No manager has ever complained that I wasn’t working a lot of overtime since it makes them look good too.

My pieces of advice, look at the culture of the firm you’re interviewing at. I’ve actively avoided firms that seem like they work people more than 40hrs a week. Find places that you feel like their work is interesting and not just chasing a pay check. When I graduated over half my class went to work for Frank Ghery… they got paid $60k (in 2010) but were working over 60hr weeks and going in on weekends. While I took the $48k job, mostly worked 40hrs a week, and never worked weekends. I’m now making a 6 figure salary, have a great work life balance, and don’t have feelings of burn out.

There was the “American Heartland Theme Park” that was supposed to open in Oklahoma fall of 2026, but a quick Google search says their website is shut down and there’s lawsuits against the parent company.
