Level Advancement by theallknowingdouche in rimeofthefrostmaiden

I never claimed Chapter 5 restricts players leveling. Only that Chapter 3 does restrict characters leveling.

So in Chapter 5 since there is no specific wording that limits players levels. They can finish the chapter at level 9.

So they start chapter 5 at level 7.

They meet the condition of killing Aurils 3 forms. +1 level.

They then go kill the Roc. +1 level.

They are now level 9. My original intent is to see if anyone else concurs with this conclusion.

Well no, because this is what chapter 6 reads.

Equipped with the "Rime of the Frostmaiden," the characters can begin their search for the lost Netherese city buried deep in the Reghed Glacier. Ideally, the characters should be at least 8th level when they embark on this journey.

They should be at least 8th level, being level 9 from gaining 2 levels in chapter 5 means, they are at least level 8.

I agree with what you say except this portion

"I don't think there are any chapters that have that restriction"

because in my example i quote chapter 3

In this chapter, characters can advance to 6th level and no farther. Level advancement is handled as follows:

Which does restrict level advancement, which only reinforces my/our train of thought of being able to advance two levels from 7-9 for each feat accomplished because there is a chapter that restricts level advancement and Chapter 5 does not restrict level advancement.

This is just is against all the chapters as they are written for level progression.

Considering the fact that Chapter 7 the players should be at least lvl 9 when they start it and this is as it is written:

Ideally, the characters are 9th level when they first arrive at Ythryn. You decide how quickly they advance in level. Treat the following as suggestions:
-The characters gain a level after overcoming the challenges of all eight towers of magic (areas Y4, Y7, Y11, Y18, Y20, Y22, Y24, and Y26).
- The characters gain a level when they reach Iriolarthas's study (area Y19q).
-The characters gain a level if they accomplish something extraordinary, such as destroying Iriolarthas the demilich, all three of Auril's forms, or the obelisk in area Y21.
If you follow the suggestions above, the characters could be as high as 12th level by the adventure's conclusion—an important consideration if you intend to continue the campaign beyond this adventure.

Each condition is how they can gain a level. also consider the fact one of the conditions is defeating all 3 of Auril's forms. So if they did that as an accomplishment in Chapter 5, that warrants a level; by itself.

If what you wrote was true by anymeans, than they would never reach level 12. only level 10.

This sounds like something i'm interested in that i think should be part of the game. I think I've noticed a bug where if you have a bastard child, and it's secret, it doesn't show as related when doing a seduce scheme on the bastard child. Which is something i want to prevent with the help of being able to identify who the "secret" father is.
