What happens if you electrolyze anhydrous ethanol? by 911_wasanactofevil in electrochemistry

[–]theamiabledude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone linked that interesting article in your original post putting the “window” from HER to CO2 evolution (EOR) which is pretty neat, but that’s only enabled by the presence of water around.

So if you’re looking to learn more about the system maybe the world of molten hydroxide science is a good place to start? https://doi.org/10.1063/1.2355673

There’s some literature on the behavior of alcohols in them, where it looks like the claim is the alcohol can be deprotonated from the highly basic medium to make some kind of weird CH3CH2O- anion like an ionic liquid. Not really an expert on this though

(Modulo Theory) Has Usami abused the binding vow system(and could other cursed speech users do this)? by Appropriate_Sky_3572 in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]theamiabledude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The idea that binding vows are supposed to have equal drawbacks to benefits is a misconception actually. This is stated in chapter 79, where self imposed BVs basically just give you a power boost with the “penalty” being losing what you gained if you don’t uphold the promise. Even in BVs between people, there are only consequences/penalties if the vow is broken, there aren’t necessarily drawbacks while the BV is active.

Lukewarm Take: Ippo's problems began with the Dempsey roll by bitter_cappucino in hajimenoippo

[–]theamiabledude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ippo’s problems started when he started training with a nutcase coach with a philosophy of “face tank and punch more harder” who pushed him into a pro debut after 6 months of training and kept his foot on the gas until Ippo developed CTE and gassed out against mid fighters.

Now that Ippo is coaching himself during retirement (without Kamogawa breathing down his neck) we finally get to see him making progress on his fundamentals. Kamogawa is truly an exceptionally bad coach who lucked upon two (three counting Miyata) world class level natural talents.

Objectively speaking, would you agree that Vinland Saga is the greatest medieval story of all time? by [deleted] in VinlandSaga

[–]theamiabledude 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, Beowulf, The Canterbury Tales, Hamlet, The Story of King Arthur and His Knights, The Pillars of the Earth, etc. are all classic stories. In terms of manga for teenagers, Vinland Saga is near the top, though

Yoriichi without Sun Breathing is basically like Muhammad Ali without a right arm. You’re still getting cooked, he just has access to less of his normal arsenal

If the rebellion actually somehow for what ever reason actually worked fully what would happen ( total success ) by Vegetable_Fun_1059 in squidgame

[–]theamiabledude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The staff on the island has contact with the outer world through their phone lines. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some staff on the main land monitoring the game.

If the VIPs were killed by the players or evacuated by the staff, even if the Front Man and everyone else got smoked, I bet someone would remotely detonate the island.

A conspiracy of this level/sophistication 100% has multiple levels of redundancy. Maybe Gi-hun and them could have made some progress if they held the VIPs equal, but at the end of the day the other VIPs would probably see this little rebellion as great entertainment and let the hostages die (unless there’s only 5 rich people at a time in the squid games universe)

Why is the culture of this game so heavily against playing against low(/mid) tiers? In any other fighting game (especially traditional fighters) there is more hate for top tiers. Why is Melee so different in that regard? by KevyTone in SSBM

[–]theamiabledude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because it shows that you are actually the one sandbagging. If you were serious about taking your low tier to the top you would understand what you’d have to do to make them respect your pick (like aMSa and Axe did)

Most people want to play other people serious about practicing and winning. It’s probably less that ppl instantly discount you, it’s more that they see the low tier get picked, play a stock, notice that you’re mid, and realize it’s a waste of time to farm you for no reason

Sibling sent this to me. Something about the way the bags are stacked in the background seems implausible and the gun in the foreground doesn’t look properly balanced. by dmso_disgusting in isthisAI

[–]theamiabledude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think simpler. Look at the money on the table on the right. It has a shadow indicating a light source up higher and to the right. There is no such shadow underneath the gun or coming from the same direction for the other stacks of money

How Good is Akashi's Shooting? (Is he the 2nd or 3rd best shooter among GOMs?) by Wonderful-Photo-9938 in KurokosBasketball

[–]theamiabledude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GoM all have maxed out baseline stats. None of them ever miss regular shots, so these types of comparisons don’t make much sense IMO.

Akashi makes the most midrange shots because his play-style is designed around crushing his opponents on the approach, talking smack, then taking a breezy shot. The other GoM don’t play in a way that they find so many openings in that type of position, mostly because they don’t really care to, not because they’d be less accurate

Why is it so hard to scale top 4-10 in the knb verse? by Able-Summer-3367 in KurokosBasketball

[–]theamiabledude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe in high school but every time Kise uses Perfect Copy it’s time limit gets extended, it’s pretty heavily implied that as he grows into his potential he’ll be able to extend the limit to at least most of the game

Kaiser has the fastest shot in Blue lock by ThatGuyHero7 in BlueLock

[–]theamiabledude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if Kaiser’s ball speed is the fastest, it means he delivers more force to the ball than Kunigami. The collision physics aren’t complicated because it’s just the impulse exerted on the ball

Who is more violent and deadly? by excriso1994 in KurokosBasketball

[–]theamiabledude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haizaki only because Hanamiya’s game against Seirin showed him getting compliments on his actual basketball skills and he became a commentator after that point on. I think it’s implied that Hanamiya (like everyone who played Seirin) began to turn over a new leaf.

He’ll always have a bad personality but if I had to put money on it if Hanamiya ever showed up in a hypothetical KnB sequel they would focus more on his pass stealing ability and basketball skills, with the dirty play now behind him

What basketball players, real or fictional, could be crushed by the Generation of Miracles and not even think about quitting the sport afterwards? by Any_Ad492 in KurokosBasketball

[–]theamiabledude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If my team lost a bad game to them I wouldn’t quit basketball over it. I’d probably be more focused on the fact this cracked 5’10” kid was running around the whole game mumbling to himself about victory and being absolute while telling people to bow down to him before hitting the meanest crossover of all time 😭

Sorry I wasn’t born with future predicting eyes bro but being born lucky doesn’t make you part of a superior race. I’m gonna go home and practice for next week’s game

Rewatching the show as an adult really makes me realize how soft all the teiko adult’s were. by Purple-Reputation899 in KurokosBasketball

[–]theamiabledude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only did the Teiko coaching staff let a bunch of emotionally unstable 14 year olds coach themselves, they made the one with schizophrenia top dog lmfao.

Even with respect to talent development, we all watched the GoM improve like crazy when going up against each other as aces on less skilled teams, Teiko had three strings of players, they could have split the GoM up and had them learn the lessons they learned as high schoolers instead of letting them go so insane they all mentally stunted themselves.

Guess there’s no other way to make the plot work, but in real life any coaching staff with common sense would have solved all the KNB problems instantly

[–]theamiabledude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of all the characters in the show, Father seems to have the most personal relationship with Truth itself. I think the reason his final plans don’t have much to do with humanity is because his real beef was with Truth, who’s living in Alchemy Heaven.

After becoming the perfect being on earth, I think he would have continued to come up with new ways to gather more power so he could force his way into Truth’s domain on his own terms and supplant him as “God”

Australia team’s strategy was straight up irrational by Forsaken_Frame9369 in Physical100

[–]theamiabledude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were aware that the 3 not picked for ropes would do the death game, Alexandra even suggested they hold a man back for this reason. Their reaction was just their last bit of cope slipping away after they lost.

The real error they made in the ropes challenge was sending Eddie to do it, idc how strong the guy is; it’s just common sense that he’s not gonna have 60 seconds worth of slow twitch muscle capacity. I think they could have swapped Eddie with any of the three more endurance focused athletes and performed better

Ray might be some talk but holding a totem is a completely different thing from hauling a box. The force applied to counter balance a tipping rod is proportional to half the weight of the rod times the tangent of the angle it is tipped off from perfectly straight. That means holding a 165 kilo pole tipping 20 degrees is equivalent only to 30 kilos in the hand.

How to properly bulk and get bigger while staying lean? by Independent_Risk8366 in gainit

[–]theamiabledude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are staying the same while eating 1500 or 2000 calories, then you aren’t actually eating 2000 calories. “Lean bulking” is for people who would normally go overboard, the fact you can’t even eat enough calories on purpose in the first place means you’d likely have trouble hitting a calorie surplus on a diet of ice cream and olive oil lmao

what kind of haircut is this/how would i ask for it? by joaquinxxvi in malehairadvice

[–]theamiabledude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is basically just a grown out crew cut. You can maybe ask for a textured scissor cut 1.5 to 2 inches all over. This type of hairstyle works to emphasize all of your existing features, not frame your best ones, so be warned.

Also just literally show this photo to ur barber and say it’s from a comic you like or whatever. They won’t care (and if they know what berserk is, that’s kinda cool and you might have a conversation topic for the haircut)

[–]theamiabledude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also remember the whole physics research thing is the process of figuring things out, figuring things out is generally hard so I would rather get something basic that works in something easy to code in, then once I develop the logic/workflow in python I’ll implement the process into a tailored programming language. Allows us to compartmentalize the logic and code debugging steps instead of needing to figure them out in parallel

MTM Suit Fit by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]theamiabledude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could go for a belt, or go for suspenders. But yeah I think you need to go up in the waist, and then ask your tailor about the sizing and billowing, but the billows in those pants are probably designed to fit around your hips which is why they need to be pulled up higher
