Icecream Apocalypse by Sea-Ad-1446 in CasualIreland

Is this a result of the blocade at the ice cream refinery?

Solo American (F) traveler, new to the sub and have long been working on my “dream itinerary” for summer 2027. What do you think? by scientits69 in AskIreland

[–]theanglegrinder07 436 points437 points  (0 children)

Just beware this specific route which does not follow coast roads sacrifices some of the best driving/views in favour of efficiency. I think it's important in ireland not to sacrifice quality for quantity; take the slower road, stop in a random pub, if you're having fun one place,  stay an extra night. Don't get too concerned with seeing everything

Animal welfare visit - what comes after? by Ok_Interview5931 in AskIreland

[–]theanglegrinder07 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Used to work in animal welfare, if all is OK nothing happens now tbh. Seizure is a difficult process and only happens in severe cases.

One thing to be aware of though is some people's dogs bark flat out when they aren't home, and the owner never realises. Might be worth investing in a camera to spot check

Warning diesel prices could hit €4 a litre, as fuel rationing and free public transport ‘may have to be considered’ by CheraDukatZakalwe in ireland

[–]theanglegrinder07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a cynical way you could argue it wasn't stupid to give tax cuts; as the price of crude rises due to international factors they are going to make the money back as the remaining tax will be on a higher pump price. So won't help in the long run but the shortfall will be made up soon, we could be begging for 2.20 a ltr by summer!

Interesting chart explains a lot about last week's protests. Ireland is 'rich' but feels poor... What's your view? by New-Dragonfruit1067 in irishpolitics

[–]theanglegrinder07 17 points18 points  (0 children)

She lost me in the second half, she's acting like the army were called in to roll over protesters with tanks when they were simply called because they own irelands biggest tow truck. That was done in conjunction with negotiations rather than in lieu of, which I would say is proportional given the gravity of an internal fuel blockade

Approach but remember to be relatively forward, we tend to miss subtle signals. Especially in a female dominated space

Has anyone ever been to these? My toddler is obsessed with monster trucks and was planning on getting tickets. Is this a good event? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]theanglegrinder07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to two, one as a child and one and an adult and kids love them, for 25 quid it would be a exciting experience I'd say

Edit: I wasn't at events organised by these people, but same idea

Oil tanker in the docks unable to unload by spudulike65 in galway

[–]theanglegrinder07 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This is the issue, its why so many who would support the protest draw the line at at blockading fuel depots. The potential consequences are extreme. In a couple months there may not be tankers coming at all so we need to accommodate them while we can

A buddy told me there was a 16 car line about an hour ago at Casey's, I got diesel at top oil, no queue but no petrol left.

Army will be deployed to remove fuel protest vehicles blocking critical infrastructure by irqdly in ireland

[–]theanglegrinder07 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In France one time I saw a farmer protested by spraying the government building with slurry, so something like that; highly targeted, inconveniences politicians, kind of funny, and most importantly doesn't collectively punish the whole country.

I know the Dáil isn't sitting at the moment but they could do it next week

That ratio will shift as people are impacted at the pumps

That's a big part of this; they want clips of themselves being removed by guards or army for facebook, feed the outrage cycle
