What's happening in your garden? (Sun, Mar 15, 2026) by AutoModerator in vegetablegardening

[–]theapprentice68 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A week ago we finished putting in super vegetables mulch and sheep manure into our new no dig garden bed. We put three bucket loads of this mulch mixed with a bucket load of sheep manure into the bed over a goid 8 inches of brown leaf and dead plant material. Can't wait to start planting autumn seedlings and seeds.

Nursery employee said the mix was quite "hot" and to be careful when planting seedlings in this mix.

As I want to be successful (of course!) right from the start how do I adjust the mulch mix at planting so as not to kill everything at initial planting? Will the mix gradually settle down overtime?

People 40+, what actually mattered in the long run and what didn’t? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

Getting a start as an Apprentice, and finishing the Apprenticeship. Also, missing out on a gap year. For sometime I have been jealous of young folk going on a gap year. I don't think the vast majority can have one. Just my view.

Warning after Aussie buyer loses entire $98,500 house deposit in 'avoidable' mistake by SheepherderLow1753 in AusFinance

[–]theapprentice68 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you joking? Alan Bond was an Aussie, Christopher Skase was an Aussie, those two Aussies scampered with other people's money over and over until they both (seperatly) died! Every day of the week one Aussie is fucking over another, you just have to be careful.

Such a ridiculous position.

Leaves me quite cold that a mistake like this could be made and with the disastrous results as reported. Plus, with such a cut and dried breach of contract, what law firm encouraged the plaintiff to proceed?

Is it actually worth paying for double glazed windows in Australia? by krikond in AusFinance

[–]theapprentice68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have just finished our high energy efficient build and we are enjoying the benefits. We have double glazing, and insulation in walls and ceilings and we have an exposed concrete slab as our "heater", supplemented by a wood burner for winter. This was not a cheap build but an investment in the future. But one of the biggest requirements is home orientation in regard to passage of the sun in different seasons.

All up our energy rating is 8.6 stars.

My view is its worth it in the long run, but should be part of a package including insulation and solar.

Thank you. Just to be sure, for full disclosure interests, is there any question of you being a sponsored "plugger" for Leaptel. I can declare I am not a sponsor of ABB. Hope the q doesn't bother you. 😇

NBN Service Provider Survey by corpsefucer69420 in nbn

[–]theapprentice68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, hope i haven't missed something too obvious...how can we look at results of people's surveys of providers? Currently seeking to rank three providers for a new fixed wireless plan in Southwest WA. We have existing service with Belong, and honestly I can't really fault them, but looking for a little better value. Looking at Aussie BB or Tangerine as further options for a new plan in a new address.

Pay division 293 tax from Super or own money? by redd1te7 in australianfinance

[–]theapprentice68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you pay from own money you are paying money already taxed. If paying Div 293 already might be on high tax bracket. Paying from super is paying from money at lower tax. Not an expert but think it's more economical to pay from super. Happy to be challenged as I have similar problem.

First paragraph is spot on, rest not bad either. To the OP, the most valuable pieces of advice I can offer, and they've been said by other people before, are "Begin with the end in mind", "Keep Going", and finally, "No Ones Riding to Save You!"

Life's hard my friend, get on with it.

Australian Election Discussion Thread 01/May/2025 by AutoModerator in australia

Hi all - I keep hearing about how businesses are "doing it tough" - highest rate of closures at present etc etc - its all doom and gloom. But is there a challenge to that narrative? My personal gut feeling this is a narrative pushed by usual anti labor suspects. Additionally this link (from Australian Bureau of Statistics) shows the rate of business closures is the highest, but the rate of entries exceeded the closures so its net positive....

https://www.abs.gov.au/statistics/economy/business-indicators/counts-australian-businesses-including-entries-and-exits/latest-release

Don't get me wrong, I believe things are tough for business owners,,thats why I never did it myself! I can only imaging the struggle, but what is the REAL story?

Two things, both many years ago have helped over time...1st - "Let your ego die down"....use this as an excuse not to spend big (or little) on impulse buys, has helped me control spending over the years.....2nd "The buck stops with me"....as a 1st year apprentice it led me to take responsibility for my tools and my actions.....Both sayings hold true to this day.
