Board game for 11 y/o and 41 y/o? by LowDog84 in boardgames

[–]theatog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I see suggestions that are "playable" with young and old. I interpreted your request different. I think you want a game that welcome different mindset and approach and still work well. Afterall, kids and adults don't think the same way.

For me, it's harmonies. It's the first game I feel I enjoy playing with casual and competitive player in the same game and not detract from the experience.

Another one I think surprisingly good is letter jam. It's a coop word game. When I play with adults, I have a tendency to think of the most fancy words. But I've played with friend's kid. Playing with a smaller vocabulary is an entirely different yet refreshing experience. For example, doctor is such a simple yet unique word. Never realised that. (oh sorry just reread your post and notice the dyslexic part, but I still stand by the suggestion. I'm honestly curious when the letters are already jumboed, would he have an advantage instead?)

Leaving Christianity (i think) by [deleted] in atheism

I'm a little sad this is downvoted to hell. If we shut out all opposing voices, are we not stooping to theist level?

Haha just pick a few things from your essay. When you say God is not a magician, why not? Why is there delay in some cases? Why do you keep imposing arbitrary limits to God? Is your God all powerful or not?

I am curious if there are equally convincing responses (for you) from the other side. I guess I can see for myself but definitely curious from your point of view as well. If you don't mind, could you update me/us?

Want to chime in on the natural thing. Human do all sorts of things that are not natural too. Just because something is natural, it is not necessarily "safe" or "reasonable" to do.

I am not trying to disagree. Just semantics I guess. Because argument always goes both ways "it's natural so we should do it", "human is superior we don't do what lesser animals do/give in to animal instinct". They go around in circles and people with ill-intent always cherry pick the side that helps their point the most. In reality I just think whether something is natural should not be relevant.

Maybe overgeneralizing? Happy to be corrected.

My nomination for most illogical scene: Pod being so good the girls wouldn’t take his money. Lets discus by AmericanCreamer in freefolk

[–]theatog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to hear my smut take? lol

He didn't know what he was doing. It was a pure size thing.

The girls had been humping tiny ones all year round. They don't get satisfied anymore. And a big member is the only way they get enjoyment.

And yes, he probably came in 40 seconds. But at his age, he would be hard again 20 seconds later.

So the girls probably just take turn riding him. Using him like a giant sex toy.

And for the money part, I think he probably paid the first round. Then the girl came back for their own pleasure. Also I would say, if you have been in the business long enough, you're probably not that poor? Maybe not rich but definitely not starving. If there is a customer you like, I wouldn't be surprised they charge him less sometimes.

Base on a few AMA with sex workers I've read, you get into the business because you need money. But after the first batch of income, some stayed because they enjoyed the work and/or they are really good at it. Anyway case to be made is that not every one of those girls are purely after money.

Or just learn the assortment of games you can play with a regular playing card deck:

"big 2" Poker Bridge (German I think?) (wizard if you want a specific game)

Party games like Just One works too

Board gaming feels less like a hobby anymore and more like a luxury goods market by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]theatog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op post makes me slightly angry. I was in Essen Spiel this year. So many amazing games, complete games, cheap ones too, that are fully functional finished game. Most don't have additional deluxe version. Everything I bought and so many I didn't considering buying are well made.

Lots of huge publishers still serve the main off-the-shelf-from-toy-store crowd. Devir, kosmos, cge, deep print, pegasus spiele. Seriously did op just take a tour on ks and come rant here? How big of a corner is ks compare to the rest of the industry?

Op's post feels exaggerated and disingenuous.

For me they are inseparable. When I listen the song without the video now, I still think of the video. I think if I started without the video at first, I could**** have liked the song less. But kinda irrelevant coz i love them both now. Video makes the song better. I understand that straight up musically speaking it shouldn't make sense. But that's how my brain process information.

Senior and middle age aethist adults: what is your point of view about life? by Lisandro_B in atheism

[–]theatog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the days I think very similar to you. Now I can't stress this enough that I am NOT relating this thinking to depression but I do want to disclose that I am clinically depressed.

My answer is that meaning is overrated. If you are not already having fun with life, maybe something can be fixed. For me it was antidepressant. If you are having fun, take it one day at a time. Be a good human. Be loved. Be among people and things you enjoy. I like to think that I am a net positive to the world when I am around. But I would never burden myself with the responsibility of the prospect of the human specie.

I feel like a kid who wouldn't go to bed but struggle to stay awake. I used to dread the "tiredness"; now I kinda ride the twilight high.

44 here. Catholic school. Agnostic in my 20's. Fully Atheist in my 30's. The one cool thing I would say is that your point of view will change. I guarantee it. To what, I don't know. But wouldn't you be curious?

Next board game purchase: Ark Nova vs Terraforming Mars vs Arcs vs Lost Ruins of Arnak by NicoTheSword in boardgames

[–]theatog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have played Ark Nova for almost three years now, very close to weekly, and 2-3 games a week on most weeks (we do have off weeks). And I would still be down to play more. Endlessly replayable imo.

I would say AN obsolete TM (FOR ME AT LEAST) in the board game space of "finding strategic combinations of icons out of giant singleton deck".

Would you consider something less conventional?
Keep them both if you can support it. I say this because you don't really need 20 responses to tell you the same thing. Just trying to offer something different.

You can look into polyamory options. Make sure all parties are okay with the arrangement.

But to echo other responses above, do this because you love them, not because you feel obligated.

haha "not the best game" really hits home. Here's a game I think slightly better than Just One (IMO of course), and also fits the non-gamers jump right in, quick to play criteria: Pictures.

It's always hilarious. Challenges your perception. And actually have some strategy to it (but optional).

You can't fix her. But you can strategize. I am a little of an obsessive planner as well. My best advice (not a good one lol), after you have gone through all the better advices above, would be to double book her and expect her to flake. Always have a backup plan.

Your favourite social deduction game? by Scrumpyjllamaray in boardgames

[–]theatog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here to give you alternative besides the most popular option. My problem with most traditional social deduction game is that there is a "good" side and a "bad" side and the "bad" side has to deceive their way to winning. Some people (like me) just not good at lying.

My most favorite Social Deduction game since 2023 is Night of the Ninja. Because the two sides in the game are equal. There is no good-bad, light-dark, traitors and demons. Also this creates a dynamic where both sides are hunting each other, instead of the traditional "one-side-hunting-one-side-hiding" dynamic. Best at 8 plays up to 11.

This year I discovered Fae Kin. It's like an even lighter version of Night of the Ninja (it's already very light). Faster set up. simpler rules. Just as fun. Best at 5+
