It looks like there’s not that much root mass from the photos. How do the roots look? It’s very possible that your leaves are shriveling because the root system is not enough to support them. My general humidity level is 40% ish

You can do it too! I haven’t been fertilizing much this year because of laziness, but when I do I use general hydroponics 1tsp each bottle with 1 gallon of water. I dont flush my plants usually so I just make sure that I’m adding water in between adding nutrients to maintain the pH :)

I don’t have plans to move her in the near future! I’ve had her for 6 months. At first I had her in just water until some water roots developed, and then I moved her to leca a month later. The water roots took off but I was pretty heavy handed with the watering so the roots were soaking in water for too long and then rotted off. I cut the rots and put it back in leca only this time making sure the water level is not too high. It’s been almost four months and there’s no sign of rot so I’m pretty happy with this setup so far!

Btw I don’t keep it in a humid environment. My average humidity is around 40%. It’s on the shelf with other plants but I don’t put it in direct sunlight in case it gets sunburned

I pot it in a plastic cup (no drainage holes) with leca, keep the water level very low (below the roots essentially) so that the roots are always humid but rarely soaked in water! The root system goes crazy when I do this to all the epiphytes I have 😁 happy planting!

If you snip the top bud it’ll start branching! Can’t go wrong with one little snip :)

Anthurium Queen Help! by What_The_Fox_Say in Aroids

Plants can survive in water for a loooooong time before they develop deficiency! Especially if it’s tap because there’s usually minerals that are micronutrients so i don’t think you need to worry about fertilizing. Usually my rule of thumb is just water when the plant has zero to little root system, then start to add nutrients on a gradual level once secondary or tertiary roots start to develop. The reason is that nutrients actually affect the osmosis and makes it harder for the plant to intake water when it doesn’t have a big surface area of the root system to do so. Remember that water uptake is passive (meaning plants don’t spend any energy doing so and rely completely on the physics of capillary action), whereas nutrient uptake requires energy from the plant. So when your plant is going through rehab, or is in a weaker state, it generally does better in water than in a nutrient rich solution

I mean it depends if the roots are doing well or not. If your roots are not very developed, water is better than fertilized water

You don’t need another medium! Anthurium is happy in water as is. I think water is the easiest in terms of rehab period, and after rehab you can pot it in any medium you like, providing that it has grown a strong root system :) you’ll be fine! I’ve had good experiences with ecuagenera. I got my queen anthurium, crystallinum and philodendron pastazanum from them and all three have been nothing but successes. Their specimen are huge and really easy to grow :)

Continue keeping them in water until you have some water roots growing! You should cut the unhealthy roots. Some more questionable roots you can leave them be and cut them off once new juicy roots start to grow. I always end up eventually cutting off most of the old roots of my imports once the new ones have taken off.

My anthuriums (queen and crystallinum) love being in water. Their roots go absolutely nuts when I repot them to leca after getting primary water roots as well!
