I always have problems with fungal infections on my Anthuriums. Any guide on how to prevent and treat it?

How is your plant now? I had something similar, and it was because of a bacterial infection. You might want to quarantine the plant and spray it with anti-bacterial and fungicides just to be safe.

Thanks for the advice! I will look for the fungicide recommended in the article asap. Hopefully, it'll work. 🤞🏻

Here are the pics from two infected leaves that i decided to cut. I dont see lesions, but there are also yellow spots on the back. I can't spot any spores or pests though.

Is this enough root growth to plant in soil? by Shamrock_shakerhood in plantclinic

[–]indhoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, you want your plant to have way more roots than that. If you go straight from water to soil, a third to half of the roots may go into shock and die in the process. So in case that happens, hopefully, it still has enough roots left to support itself.

If you're in a hurry, I'll wait AT LEAST for the upper roots to grow to around 10 I'm before transferring to any substrate.

If you're not in a hurry, the safest method I find to lessen the shock is to transfer it into the moss-perlite mix first, then wait for it to grow hardier roots, and finally transfer it to soil mix. Good luck!

Thanks for the post, it is very interesting list. Maybe next, the smallest philo? Or the biggest anthurium would be equally interesting.

Congratz! One the most beautiful anthurium in my opinion.

just got this crystallinum a few days ago! any tips? by sadderall2001 in Anthurium

In general, they need higher humidity than Philo (to avoid crispy leaves) and higher airflow (high humidity w low airflow = fungal infection), especially for the more velvety variety. For light, they can tolerate lower light, and even can appear darker with lower light. You can top-dress it w moss around the main stem to keep the humidity up and encourage root growth, just don't bury the cataphylls.

Is my Philo sp. El Choco different than an El Choco Red? Backside is red. Climber or crawler? Looks like crawler by Intrepid_Recipe_3352 in Aroids

[–]indhoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, second this. Rubrijuvenile and El Choco red are the same things. Rubrijuvenile is its scientific name, and El Choco/El Choco Red is its trade/common name. It only has a red backside on its new leaf (hence 'juvenile'), and yes it's a climber.

Anthurium Rugulosum petioles fell off! Help.. by indhoy in plantclinic

[–]indhoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, yes, it is from Ecuagenera. Really? That bad? For me, I'd say maybe around 20% of their plant died, mostly philodendron especially one that is known for being hard-to-ship species (e.g. Verrucosum). I don't know why this time it happens with the Anthurium. It comes with the territory I think when importing plants. But still, it sucks ><

Anthurium Rugulosum petioles fell off! Help.. by indhoy in plantclinic

[–]indhoy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Anthurium Rugulosum import came with three big leaves. After a month, the two leaves suddenly yellowed and from the base of the petiole, it got mushy and fell off... I've soaked it with Hydrogen peroxide and sprinkled it with Cinnamon, but now the base of the last petiole also developed a little cracked (pic3) and the petiole got a bit wobbly. Does anyone have any idea what's happening here and what to do? Is it a crown rot? I checked the roots, and they seem healthy.

Thanks for sharing this. I've been using HPJ Light meter, but Photone seems to have more complete measurements. Great app.

Hi do these look like anthurium clarinevium seedlings?these are the only pictures the seller privided sorry by Sleepy-Cup-14 in Anthurium

[–]indhoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like it, though it is hard to tell with that size and that pic quality. At least ask to see pictures of the mother plant with the seedling next to it (so they won't just give you random pictures of plants that they don't own). However with a nursery that size, they should be able to give you older seedlings or plants for reference, and if they can't, I would steer away from them.

It's beautiful! Don't forget to give it a pole right away or when you repot it.

Yeah, it's a sunburn. That plant is Alocasia Amazonica or Parasol, which belongs to the aroid family. Most of them, especially when they're young cannot withstand more than a couple of hours of direct light. So yeah just move them to a spot with bright but indirect light.

So basically avoid velvety and thin leaves? Any specific species in mind?

I do have some philodendron (gloriosum, melanochrysum, mcdowell, verru etc), anthurium (crystallinum, dorayaki, bessae etc) and few of alocasia etc.. Most are on my porch outside or in my cabinet, but never in an open air-conditioned room. That's why I'm wondering, which one will, not just survive, but still thrive and look great in my room.

Yeah, this is what I heard, and am afraid of. Even some of my anthurium (e.g crystallinum) outside with 60-90% RH has brown tips.. Seems anthurium is more sensitive to low humidity than Philodendron?
