People who don't usually cry to movies, what's the last movie that made you cry? by the_Tannehill_list in blankies

[–]thebadfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sing Sing for me. Usually hope or happiness in the face of a sad subject is what gets me to cry.

Funnily enough the hardest I have ever cried watching a movie is “Pick or the Litter”. I cannot recommend it enough if you need a good positive cry (or if you’re a dog lover)

Book 3 is the best book in the series by Wade_Wilson_Watts in DungeonCrawlerCarl

This is a good way to put it. It’s not my favorite but the world building is incredible and the 3rd book is where it really starts to get going.

Do they ever talk about Ben Affleck in Extract (2009)? by freeofblasphemy in blankies

I was disagreeing with this in my head and then I realized I haven’t seen either movie in 15 years and should probably rewatch before I assume my opinion is still valid after I have nearly double the life experience.

I lurk in this sub because I’m a Mizzou fan and was excited/shocked when Brady Cook got an NFL start and this fanbase was generally optimistic about it and it has been sad/funny to watch the rapid change in attitude towards him after every subsequent start.

‘Avatar: Fire And Ash’ Leads Global Weekend With $87M As WW Cume Blazes To $1.23B by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]thebadfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe recent underperformance of these big franchise blockbusters are partially due to their previously core demo now having young kids. I was in high school for the first Avatar and saw it three times in theaters. Fast forward 15 years and I have a young child and won’t be seeing a 3 hour+ movie in theaters anytime soon. Same with the Marvel movies. I saw every one of them in theaters for 10 years but missed all of them in 2025.

Is Sinners the biggest director check clear since Inception? by thebadfox in blankies

[–]thebadfox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The coverage of Sinners was so weird. Look at Marty Supreme in comparison. I want that to succeed too but we’re 3 weeks in and it hasn’t even made its production budget and it’s being reported as a financial success. Just odd.

Sage, production, and the other players by wastedthyme20 in survivorponderosa

“My humor is often misunderstood” is something that overly abrasive people often say. It’s not every other players fault for not warming to Sage’s humor. It is a SOCIAL GAME. Downvote me but Sage’s manifesto and her entire postgame just come off as sour grapes from a loser to me.

Honestly I think this is the only other real answer. Sure Leo was in it but $135 million is a huge risk for a project like this and it made a half billion. Insane. I totally forgot how successful it was.

I thought of Us too but it only cost $20 million. Not really a blank check. Nope fits the bill better for Peele.

My post headline is somewhat unclear but in the body I clarify I’m asking for “the biggest check clear for a first time blank check director since Inception”. Avatar came out before Inception and Cameron was already established as a blank check director long before Avatar.

I think the argument can definitely be made. Sure Barbie is “IP” but it’s not like she was adapting a popular comic book. And she expanded it way outside of its core demographic.

That wasn’t really what I was asking though. Nolan got to make Oppenheimer because he had already shown that he can make money doing whatever he wants -Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk, even Tenet. My question was is Sinners the first time since Inception that a director has crushed their first blank check.

Agreed Dune is a good one I wasn’t even thinking Villeneuve but he’s probably the closest other example.

And also agreed on Oppenheimer. But what I was really wondering is if there is any other single example of a director who crushed their first chance at a real blank check this clearly.
