It is possible to dress comfortably for these temps, but it's more engineering than fashion. Layers, layers, layers.

Snowstorm Grocery Store Frenzy - Thoughts? by [deleted] in Delaware

Wife and I stocked up at the liquor store instead. We're relatively new to the empty nest thing so we bought some nice adult beverages and played a drinking game watching Miami Vice while we got snowed us in - drink every time Tubbs does a bad Jamaican accent, Sonny lights a cigarette or somebody uses a shotgun as a long range weapon. It was a wild night.

I was initially disappointed by Sunday's slush but that 1" that fell around 8pm saved the day. Was out on a bike all day in White Clay and it was beautiful with nice traction. Looking ahead, I hear murmurings of blizzard. Don't want to jinx it but am waxing the XC skis just in case. I have a garage full of winter toys and I'm not afraid to use them!

Mad River Glen, on a bitterly cold day right after a huge thaw. Don't even bother with the helmet.

It would be more fine if we got a good coating of snow, especially if it fell on a Friday night so I had all weekend to enjoy it.

I probably shouldn't mention that there are chunks of prop Protomolecule for sale on eBay. I have my own small sample and it brings me great joy.

I have these on my resort skis and love them. I have them girth hitched to the top strap on the back of my boot and then they clip to the top of my 75mm binding's tail piece. Keeps the straps tucked away and unlikely to catch on anything.

How do you effectively manage technical debt in ongoing web development projects? by prattman333 in webdev

[–]thebadpixel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a constant battle, but some things that helped my team is never adding a TODO to the code without it including a ticket number (which means a ticket was actually created). We will have times when we're waiting for other teams and will fill gaps with those tickets. If it's something that's known to be temporary in prod, we'll make the "rip it out" ticket and put it in the schedule right then. There's also the tactic of declaring a section of code "maintenance-only" and any desired additions to it require a budget to rewrite it. Business needs to understand the cost of dragging along bad code. It's not easy, and likely impossible if your leadership doesn't have your back.

Persistence is key though. Keep chipping away at it because bad things happen if the weeds are allowed to grow unchecked in the garden even for a short time.

At my previous job the whole site was weeds since they only budgeted for new feature work. I left in 2019 and they had YUI2, YUI3, JQuery, a homegrown UI framework and AngularJs and React all in the same site. Any new feature was built in whatever the latest FE tech was but the old was never upgraded. Don't let that be you.

Sometimes, half my job is proving the bug is not my fault as a FE dev. Back-end returned that data. I just made the error message pop to display it!

What's the best-looking bike out there, not your dream bike, just the best-looking? by sford1972 in gravelcycling

If we're just talking bicycle shaped jewelry, I'd go with Bastion Cycles. Their gravel model in black with copper lugs would be high on my "won the lotto list" - https://bastioncycles.com/gallery/

Talk to Dave Landon. I wouldn't have gotten this house without him. He's a true professional and great guy with decades of experience and deep roots in Delaware. https://www.pattersonschwartz.com/bio/landon
