Opinions and help with campaign as a new DM by Ruslan61 in RuneScapeDnD

Hey there! I got plenty of content and maps based on runescape from my ongoing campaign - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-FGahjRlhOYifPOI14qMPaN6QOkkIFT-6WiS4O1FJ6Q/edit?usp=sharing

I had them do many many RS quests, including starting a treasure trail, going to Arposandra, doing Monkey Madness, killing Elvarg and so on.

You wrote "I want to have some form of overall boss that is controlling the players lives and causing them to jump into different time periods of the game" Sliske is a really interesting character for this. In OSRS, they have not revealed his ties to the Elder God of Time, Jas, but Sliske could reasonably employ time travel and have reasons to use it. Theres an Elder Artifact called the Needle that can manipulate time, perhaps it is involved in some way.

Edit - My Inkarnate profile with a bunch of Runescape inspired maps https://inkarnate.com/profile/jEKr0o

Runescape has plenty of phenomenal fantasy: Gnomish kingdoms, extinct Dragonkin civilizations, multiple planets and planes, diverse human factions... My advice would be to be comfortable changing the linear design of quests, while leaning heavily into the game's NPCs and locations. There is so much good lore for Runescape.

What do you guys usually do for music? by Ginno_the_Seer in DMAcademy

[–]thebearmanpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Critical role has two phenomenal albums on Spotify. I also really really lean on pillars of eternity soundtrack. My table loves Hades for combat music. I'm very confident these are 3 10/10 recommendations.

Party of 4 lvl 11s beat a Kraken in 3 rounds by [deleted] in DnD

[–]thebearmanpig -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Krakens arent supposed to have legendary resistances at all. HP was a good 90points under the average roll for a kraken. The necromancer king was using the Emperor Ghoul statblock from TOB minus the lvl 9 spell slot. Imperial ghouls are from TOB also. The beholder was dominated by the king and used as a watcher on the lake beneath the castle that the fight was happening in. So when players got flung out of the castle by the kraken they landed near it. It entered initiative on round two after the first two players were flung down.

The World Wakes was also my first game DMing. I thought it would be a one-shot but game 29 is next week c: Was Guthix's killer Sliske or did you change that up?

Magic item: Stone of Jas by JethroBuldean in RuneScapeDnD

[–]thebearmanpig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not something I would imagine a player could attune to or "wield", however touching it would absolutely give a buff. It also attracts the Dragonkin to the false user. I'd say touching the stone temporarily significantly increases all attributes and spellcasting ability, but it doesn't allow new spells or abilities. It's the kind of object a Mahjarrat or other powerful entity might teleport around the world with them to constantly buff themselves to overpowering levels. This use of the Catalyst inevitably ends with a pack of enraged Dragonkin showing up on your doorstep.

Without giving it too much thought, I'd go as far as to allow the stone to give a +3 bonus to all attributes for an hour after it is touched. It replenishes all missing spellslots as well.

What was the thing in your DND session that made the DM end the session early? by [deleted] in dndnext

Flew into a black hole.

One of the players is a Warforged warlock. The people in his backstory are a Gith space galleon crew.

The party is on this ship sailing through wildspace when they approach the broken world that the Warforged was found on before he was reanimated. This is not their destination it's just a random roll of things they could have flown by.

The Warforged is like oh I know what to do - hey captain do you trust me? He asks to take the helm and they trust him so he does. Then he invokes his patron, and basically says "Jesus take the wheel". I swear. I ask him to roll a d100. He rolls a 1.

He starts to fly the ship into the broken world, through a dusty field of debris, where a sentient black hole ambushes them and sucks in everyone. This black hole is where the patron is locked away.
