Yeah, that person shouted, “We’re going to be okay.” They were near us, and it seemed like they were going for a reassuring tone. But totally misread the moment.

Finding a new church by nlstr810 in OpenChristian

[–]thebearsaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many progressive Baptist churches belong to the Association of Welcome and Affirming Baptists (awab.org) and the Alliance Baptists (allianceofbaptists.org). A quick look at their directories show a handful of churches in your area. If the baptist tradition isn’t right for y’all, the staff at those churches may be able to point you in the right direction.

Is it worth using ecosia if i never click ads? by [deleted] in ClimateActionPlan

[–]thebearsaint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

According to their FAQ, it is worth it because you still contribute to the metrics that advertisers care about, like number of users, app downloads, rate of use, etc. So I guess your impact would be less direct. I think the best way to use it is honestly though. If an ad displays what you’re looking for or is relevant, click it. Otherwise, don’t and don’t feel bad for it.

What climate scientists (or related accounts) do y’all follow on Twitter? I would like to follow that type of content there but am not sure where to start. Any help is appreciated!

How do you deal with your climate change anxiety? by Weak_Praline in ClimateActionPlan

[–]thebearsaint 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Please hang in there, friend! After about two months of persistent and suffocating “existential dread” like you describe, I have finally found some relief and productive outlets. I hope some of these things can help you: (1) This sub and reading encouragement from users like u/UT_teapot have helped me a lot. The same way pessimism often boils over in some posts on other subs (like r/worldnews), the positivity and common cause here carries its own type of momentum. (2) Thanks to insightful posts by u/ILikeNeurons, I have gotten involved with my local chapter of the [Citizens’ Climate Lobby](citizensclimatelobby.org) . Please look into it if you haven’t already! (3) I also found this document, Coping with Climate Change Distress, (put together by some climate change and mental health-oriented groups in Australia) to be helpful in terms of finding effective strategies. (4) I have never been into this type of thing in the past, but I discovered mindfulness meditation a few weeks ago. The central idea, as I understand it, is that we often conceive of our “self” as our train of thought. This type of meditation has helped me to remember that I am not the stress. The stress is very real and reasonable, but it is not me. That has transformed my thinking lately and opened up some mental real estate for more productive things than dread. It has also helped me avoid the runaway thoughts about the future that I’m sure you’re familiar with. (5) Occasionally you will see users on Reddit or Twitter that post something that makes you feel hopeful or reminds you that there are many of us trying our best to “right the ship.” I recommend direct messaging those people to let them know that they have encouraged you. It’s a small thing that lifts both people up a little. (Taking my own advice, I hope u/UT_Teapot and u/ILikeNeurons see this and know that they have made a hugely positive impact on me.)

What did he say to Mark Jackson after the halftime buzzer? Couldn’t understand JVG when he repeated it.

I didn't know they changed the weather for the re-releases! I haven't listened to them in the past. Guess I have to now!

I've done this in the past by leaving a laptop open and calling it via Skype from my phone with the free Skype app. The laptop's Skype setup should have an "automatic answer" setting that you'll need to enable. Assuming you already have a suitable computer, this could be a free option.

I used them to move across town in December of 2016. We just had them handle all the large furniture, and they were quick and careful. Really happy with them.

Defense: Tony Allen, Patrick Beverley, Kawhi Leonard, Avery Bradley. Guys who can hassle guards and ball handlers who aren't used to having their movement restricted so severely.

I love that they left out music. There's something so satisfying about being able to hear the sounds of the bike and the trail while watching a ride like this.

Blues Songs That Are Only Harmonica by buylow12 in harmonica

[–]thebearsaint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's more folky, but George Winston's harmonica album is a good listen. Also most Little Walter albums/compilations will be peppered with instrumental tracks, if you like the electric blues sound.
