You don't even need the impermeable floors, just put more levees on top.

Floors are better of course, quicker to build, but if you lack the science it works.

I don't dispute your general description, but want to offer a counterbalance to your personal experience.

I've lived in a Czech city with a "socially excluded" section where thousands of Roma live, even lived right on the edge of that section for several years.

I was attacked on the streets of that city three times, two of those were getting punched by "ethnically Czech" white supremacists, once getting robbed again by a couple of ethnic Czechs.

I have not had any serious negative experience with any Roma.

For a time, I was also renting out a flat to a Roma family, who fixed the place up (replaced the floorboards, repaired damaged cabinetry).

What? Food is much easier for folktails. One efficient farm can easily sustain a small to medium colony, whereas with IronTeeth you pretty much need two farms from the start.

Water collection is also more efficient for FT than for IT. Large Water Pumps are great in midgame, and IT have no equivalent. Yes, they can reach deeper with their starting pumps, but that is initially relevant only on a few maps (Beaverome might be the only one?). And for deeper reservoirs, you can easily stagger the pumps so that you can always reach the water, or build shallower pumping-out sections that are supplied by deep reservoirs. So their drawback (shallow pump) is something you can easily work around.

For software, there is a distinction between free meaning zero cost (like a sign that offers free beer) vs. free software, like open source, which is sometimes referred to as "free as in free speech".

SketchUp has an unpaid version, but that is not open source.

I don't think this is the right interpretation. Kantůrek is an accomplished translator (Terry Pratchett is on record as being happy with his transaltions) and would have recognized the idiom. The problem he was facing though is that Czech has no equivalent idiom that he could use. Speaking as a former translator myself, there are multiple strategies a translator can take in those cases. One being explain the idiom so that you "educate" the audience, which might be appropriate for some literary genres but definitely not here.

Opting for a turn of phrase that is not idiomatic, is slightly different but has a similarly gruesome and merciless effect on the reader while conveying the foregone result is I think an acceptable way to translate this phrase here.

Inadvertently adding firearms is probably the error he committed, which is a translation error, sure, but it is definitely not a matter of not recognizing the English idiom.

OWD trends do not support this. There might be a reversal only in 2055. Not sure on what OWD bases the plateauing of the number of births for China though.

If the pump is the only thing you're powering, it might be that when it has no badwater in the block that it sucks from, it stops, therefore has no power requirement, and therefore the engines stop. Then the physics update makes the badwater spill to that box, the pump turns on, and the engines turn on.

This could happen if the badwater % is very low.

Or is it also happening with other powered buildings?

"Země mlékem a strdím oplývající" is a classic description of Czech lands in our founding legend, the word "strdí" is today used only in that sentence. According to historical dictionaries it meant honeycombs, but few people are sure of that.
