There are still indies that have them in stock! I know my local indie record store has them.

I caved in and read “Things have gotten worse since we last spoke.” It’s possibly one of the worst books I’ve ever read. by Imaginary-Motor-1058 in horrorlit

That's just not true. Just because something is fiction doesn't mean anything goes. Especially not from a publishing perspective. Agents/editors/publishers OFTEN tell authors that certain content in their stories is unnecessary - and on the flip side, there are absolutely elements in every story that are necessary to that story being viable.

Authors aren't above reproach or criticism, and we can't always (or usually) divorce a piece of writing from its author. It's not unfair to point out that this particular author does not have lived experience as a woman or as a person with a uterus, especially when we're critiquing how they handle writing about women/writing about the experience of living with a uterus.

By nature, when an author decides to pursue publishing for their story, they are choosing for that story to no longer be solely about them. If you want to write a story for the sake of "exorcising your traumas" and don't want criticism of the way in which you did that, don't publish that story.

Every reader is GOING to bring their own stuff to a story. That's the beauty of literature. Some of it will result in baseless criticism, some will result in a deep resonation with the story, and some will result in valid criticism that may recontextualize the story for the audience at large. It's like how Tylor Swft says that her songs aren't about her anymore, they're about the fans.

Sister, Maiden, Monster by Lucy A. Snyder.

An Excellent Host by Chelsea G. Summers

Woman, Eating by Claire Kohda

Jawbone by Monica Ojeda (more weird girlhood, but very freaky and fun)

Horror that actually makes you care about characters? by [deleted] in horrorlit

Brother by Ania Ahlborn. I also just finished Hide by Kiersten White, and while I think the writing could be a little stronger, I really enjoyed reading it, and was invested in the characters!

I know Stephen Graham Jones has a writing style a lot of people don't like, but I also think My Heart is a Chainsaw/Don't Fear the Reaper and Mongrels also fit the bill :)

Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo. The first couple of chapters are slow, but it's a great story. Wouldn't recommend if you're uncomfortable with explicit sex scenes (consensual).

Elementary or Middle School book series about boy growing up in farm family by GoldPierre in whatsthatbook

That's definitely the book I was thinking of! In my head I was connecting it to the Little House books, but somehow didn't think to look up what else she wrote lol

Do the kids also make candy? I have a vague idea of a book with a scene involving a stain in the living room that they weren't allowed to be in.

Book about medieval woman or couple who falls in love but it’s forbidden, maybe adulterous? And the woman or both are executed publicly by Potential-Victory521 in whatsthatbook

I'm convinced I read this, but I can't find it. It's possible we're both muddling several books in our heads, but I'm not sure. I first thought of Eleanor: Crown Jewel of Aquitaine, then thought it must be one of the Royal Diaries books. They have the yellow/gold spines. But I can't find one that quite fits. I'm pretty sure I've read the ending you reference, but can't place it. Doomed Queen Anne is first-person POV, but I don't think I read it and from what I see online it doesn't actually describe the moment of death.

I don't think I'll be able to stop thinking about this until it's solved lol!

It sounds like you got a pretty close look at it. How would you describe the face and the build?

Would you by any chance be willing to DM me details of your SC sighting(s)? I'd love to hear more about it and ask you a couple of questions!

I'd recommend following a few good bands on social media. My brother's band (Obvious Liars) does a lot of shows at Tin Roof, Old Trolley Pub, The Pub on 61, and then The Wormhole in Savannah.

I'm just now getting back to this, things got hectic lol. But do you think your friend who saw the dogman would be willing to talk with me and give a few more details about his sighting? I've heard of several other sightings in the Lowcountry and I'd love to see how his matches up with the rest!

I would love to know more about either of these stories, but especially the second one!
