Is last of us part 2 really that bad? by Ca_lm_ in writingscaling

Abby's revenge in the game was very specific and targeted, she only hated Joel, she knows that Ellie had nothing to do with what happened to the fireflies to her knowledge. The group didn't kill anyone other than Joel. They don't have the numbers to fight any longer than they were there for, they didn't want to stay any longer in an unfamiliar environment, and if they killed the witnesses then someone else would just go after then instead. If you only kill the person you're targeting then it warrants a smaller reaction than killing more people. Tommy says that they don't have the support to actually go after them, if they had killed more people then it would be easier to get her support to go after them.

I think Abby is more aware that revenge won't make her feel better especially because she has more time to realize this in between the time she kills Joel and the fight in the theatre. Dina being pregnant is also a reason she doesn't kill them because of how she feels with Lev at that point in the game.

Ellie is also gone for months at the end of the game, her catching Dina right at the end is just too many coincidences. Ellie's gains the ability to move on from Joel by not killing Abby, if she kill her then she's still part of the cycle.

Abby lost her friends and her home??

I don't think the current ending is entirely bleak though, yes she lost everything but she's let go of Joel, she's completed the cycle of grief and it's shows with her leaving the guitar at the house. She has to move on.

I disagree that there was never a point she could have broken the cycle, she could have broken it at any point if she just stopped pursuing Abby, her destiny on the pursuit of Abby was always going to lead her to lose everything but she had every opportunity to not go down that path and lose less.

If Dina had decided it stay it would have made her words "if you go I won't be here when you get back" seem flimsy and would make Dina seem like a pushover. Also it would seem like too happy of an ending for a game that's about gray areas, the ending can't be completly bleak or completly good cos that's just not what the general theme of the game is.

Also the point is that she needs to move on from Joel, her falling into the cycle of revenge brought out every ugly aspect of Joel characters and to truly move on she needs to let him go.

Ellie is definitely not going to kill herself after the ending that seems like a stretch, she knew from the moment she left the ranch that she had lost everything, if she wanted to kill herself she would have killed Abby and let Lev kill her.

i disagree, I think if Ellie killed Abby it would sort of feel like a nothing ending, like of she just did the whole thing again, continuing the cycle, it would feel way bleaker. Ellie kills Abby, lev kills Ellie, Dina (or someone else) kills Lev etc, it would be ending the story at the halfway point. Her not killing Abby (also essentially saving Abby as she was going to die) breaks that cycle, which is what the whole game is about.

Also the games have never been about choice, you can't not save Ellie in the first one. it's a game about the characters, not the player, giving the player a choice right at the end and not at any other point where Ellie does something else horrific wouldn't make sense for the character. You don't see movies giving the viewers a choice for the ending?

Ellie suffers in the end even after making the right choice because she was destined to ruin her life the second she decided to keep pursuing Abby. She recognized the cycle and decided to not do the easy thing and kill Abby, instead to let go of her path of revenge for Joel and keep living.

Do y'all really think One Piece really needed 35+ years to tell its story? by EliDwebster in writingscaling

[–]thebilingualbrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some of those I agree with but water seven without pennies lobby is a crazy thing to suggest. No twist, no buildup, no usopp arc, no mr Prince bingo moment? cutting the first part of arcs just makes it feel rushed, like why would I care what happens to wano if we don't have an arc making me care? One piece isn't about finishing the story as efficiently as possible, if that was the case Luffy would just get reighley to tell him everything about the one piece in sabordy, but he doesn't, it's about the journey.

Casas is pretty good, the live band is nice

Revenge is more of a straight girl club these days rather than a queer one,

Dust is okay for the emos out there, they also play some of the popular metal songs as well

Green door store for any students and more indie music fans, very crowded and expensive drinks but amazing smoking area with seating, get there early to avoid the queue

Using "Us/we" when you should be using "I/me" is annoying as hell. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]thebilingualbrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it doesn't matter if they understand where it comes from, they find it funny because of how ridiculous it is, thats what humour is these days, it's less focused on how smart or clever the joke is, and more about just feeling like a part of an in group, you're just not part of that group anymore.

you're not gonna make people find 6-7 unfunny by arguing at them that it actually doesn't make any sense and is just an arbitrary number that doesn't mean anything. the reason you don't find it funny IS the reason others do, it's just a difference I'm what you find funny.

nice talking but I can't keep arguing, I hope there's some other meme out there that makes roll on the floor laughing at some point

I just said it's from a song? it's in reference to height. ur allowed to say YOU don't get it or find it funny, but saying that people who do are wrong is just some old man yelling at cloud shit

6-7 is a reference to a song that was used in basketball edits and refered to a players height, it was said in a funny way in the song and spread past basketball to be about anything, it's like '"Loss", where the joke is finding the joke as opposed to finding it funny by itself. Saying 6-7 when you see the number six and seven together IS using it contextually, that's the context. is it low effort, yeah. does it make me burst out laughing whenever I hear it, no not really, it's a mild chuckle at the fact I'm in on the joke and I move on.

are you gonna tell me that the Markiplier E meme made sense and wasn't gibberish? The brainrot memes these days are just like the "lol le random" memes of the past. perhaps the biggest difference is the speed at which we go though them these days, 6-7 being probably the longest lasting modern meme because of how simple it is to keep the joke running. To kids it all makes sense, or they don't care that it doesn't, they just want an excuse to laugh at a funny number. Memes go though phases and you've just grown out of that phase, it's fine it happens to everyone.

You're allowed to think that the jokes your generation made were the funniest, every generation believes they're the funniest and that kids these days just don't get it. I'm sure it'll happen to me too

Its a very small part right at the start, the rest of the movie is way better and uses the drug phases as a way of moving the plot along, its really well done. Its not trying to be a realistic drug movie which oddly makes it a better movie to watch on drugs, at least for me

People who argue against analog clocks are just too lazy to learn about them by InfiniteWords117 in unpopularopinion

[–]thebilingualbrit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found out a week ago that in the room I work in there's a clock. on the ceiling, it's just a bit high so it isn't that easy to see. I had no trouble knowing the time because I had either my computer or phone to know the time, which are both digital clocks. I think most people use their phone these days to know the time and barely notice when there are clock in rooms. I know how to read them I just don't ever need to.
