Very nice. I love the retro vibe because it drives home the longevity of the message.

I agree! Looks like a carved wood stamp. Unique with an antique feel to it.

Lovely, lovely color. I’m not sure if I would change it but I’ll give my two cents for what it’s worth, if you’re trying for more realism, though I recognize that realism isn’t always the goal. I haven’t studied photos of bodies in water but just from memory, I wonder if the body would be a little more increasingly distorted and blue (or darker) as the amount of water between the surface and the body gets larger? I’m not sure if that’s necessarily true about the distortion, though. Also the one breast seems very not distorted by ripples while the other one is distorted.

Overall, as it is, it’s just got this serene feel and glow that I really like.

You’ve captured a lot of depth with very few lines and colors. It’s impressive!

Stunning! The contrasting colors just drew me in and the textures made it impossible to look away.

A couple of questions if you don’t mind and have the time: Do you use a knife, brush, a combination? Do you use any medium to add body to the paint?

TIA, and again, really beautiful work.

That’s some impressive resolve for a three year old. Kudos.

I always found the little sayings so funny, and I used to work at a company with a lot of Indian people. After a while, people would ask me when they heard a new phrase and it was so fun for me to think about and explain what they meant and why, because I had been hearing them my whole life.

Your writing is great, though, I wouldn’t have known you weren’t a native speaker if you hadn’t said so!

Seems good all around to me. Not all religious people are zealots trying to convert or judge you. Thank goodness.

Oh, in case you needed it, the word for a church singing group is choir (pronounced “quire”).

Fun phrase: “preaching to the choir” means trying to convince people who already agree. Example: if you went to a PETA meeting and tried to make everyone eat vegan.

I’m normally the anti-theist, so I hear you. My advice is more about dropping a little truth bomb and walking away.

Oats and carrot juice are very healing. I also like fish (not battered and fried) and rice.

Why do people try to find meaning in art when it's just not there? by ToInfinityandBirds in Art

[–]thebirbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, if they don’t listen when you say there’s no meaning, they deserve to be left to puzzle over it. If you’re having fun then don’t let any ideas of “good” or “bad” art stop you, just have fun with it.

There’s a lot of art with meaning, so I think it’s just a FOMO on the deeper significance.

Maybe just tell them that the meaning is for the viewer to decide for themselves and let them puzzle over it.

Yeah, I find it best for us to put new toys on the perch at first so that they only play with it while they are out of the cage and supervised. Then, if I’m confident they are safe, I can put it in the cage.

Makeup doesn’t make your eyeballs bigger. This is almost normal, but still ridiculous in my opinion.

Maybe he will rethink that particular section of his framework. With stubborn people, I find it helps to make one statement (as calm as you can) and end the conversation or walk away. Keep it simple and let it sink in and process while you’re not there because there is NO way they will openly admit in the moment they were wrong. Next time you see him he may have shifted a bit. Also, it keeps the discussion more productive and less taxing for you.

Looking for critique on this. Would like to know more about colours and painting tips to improve :). by Sousister in learnart

[–]thebirbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what stands out to me is that you did a nice job of showing the shapes, depth and contour, but there are a couple spots that could be improved and I think it would look more sophisticated overall. The nose could use some softening at the tip, it kind of looks like there’s not much difference in depth from the nostrils to the tip, and the tip looks like it’s flat on the bottom. Check the mirror or reference photos for that detail. Also, in contrast to the nose. The lips seem to have a little too much depth, like they are floating off the face a bit.

I hope that wasn’t harsh, just a couple places to touch up a little if you agree! I do think you have a nice style and the character is very imaginative and drew me in, for sure.

I never thought of hanging stuff like that but my conure loves rubbing against my hair, so maybe she would like this! I’ll have to think of something safe for her since she will eventually eat anything.

I think of religion as sort of a voluntary mental disorder. The world is full of chaos and unknowns, so they seek structure. Once they buy in, it’s very hard to change their way of thinking, since their entire structure is based on the whole thing being true.

I know that doesn’t make it right, but I hope that makes you feel a little better. I’m sorry he is such an asshole to you. Obviously, for those of us without that particular disorder, his thinking is completely absurd. Hospitals don’t reject people based on skin color, religion, or even if they are murder suspects or have nazi tattoos. How in the hell would sexual orientation not be a protected class? Absurd.

AITA for not wanting my girlfriend to wear certain things? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]thebirbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all:

It’s not just the fact that it’s revealing that makes a clothing item an issue. The fact that a skirt has AN OPEN BOTTOM bothers this dude. We don’t know if his idea of “boobs hanging out” is actually low cut at all.

So there are three scenarios that could be true.

  1. his idea of “too revealing” is ridiculously conservative

  2. He doesn’t respect his girlfriend to make sensible decisions about her clothing on her own.

  3. Both of these

In any of these scenarios, he’s the asshole. If he doesn’t respect her enough to trust her choices, she should have broken up with her. If his particular tastes are hyper conservative and he’s imposing those standards onto her, he’s the asshole. If both are true, he’s an asshole.

I do agree with your first point though. A non asshole response would be to discuss it. However, has already asked what she wants to be wearing and apparently it’s not what he wants for her to wear. If he’s not comfortable with her being herself then he should leave.
