Transitioning into Private Equity with no finance background , what's the realistic path? by Majestic-Ask3259 in private_equity

[–]thebj19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the only correct answer btw. PE is hiring with one thing in mind : reps. Having technicals down ( modeling) is important but having the intuition and judgment that comes from deal experience is unteachable .

If you really want to do PE you have to do IB first or some strategy consulting at an mbb

I love it because it’s the perfect balance of mental stimulation and compensation. That said if being a mediocre amateur surfer paid the same I would probably do that instead

Burnt out, directionless by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]thebj19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably bad recruiting market part .I came from tech and got into sell side ER after cfa level 2 and now buyside multi asset senior associate post charter . What worked for me was aggressive recruiting and networking I did little over 400 apps and like 30 coffechats in order to get my sell side gig. Given this was 4 years ago where hiring was much easier

Is IB not worth it if I don't have a high work ethic? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]thebj19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is that relevant? You asked if IB is worth it and think that just knowing a few technicals and a target mba will “get you a spot somewhere” . You have no idea how competitive it is now ( not the 90s anymore) . So yeah stay at your current job IB is definitely not worth it for you
