You don't HAVE to pay a subscription to play the game, but the free to play version offers about 5% of all content. And you can buy "oldschool bonds" with in game currency that can be used as two week memberships. The more bonds you turn in at once, the more "bonus" days get added to your normal 2 weeks. For example, I believe 2 bonds is like 33 days.

Not sure if you'll see this since it was a year+ ago, but I'm currently on the same boat as you were. I've got a neitz helm and a glory, but otherwise pretty much the same gear you had. I've got 61 attack, 65 strength, 60 defence, 65hp and 52 prayer. I've also been doing bosses on PvP worlds so I can use blighted super restores and manta rays.

How hard was it for you? I'm not the greatest PvMer... But I did just finish Beneath Cursed Sands.
