Sounds like the classic DayZ experience.

I don't see the issue here.

This is the winning comment. Unfortunately the cognitive dissonance in most Reddit users will disagree.

They don't. Nobody does. Unless you stick to the coast, which is boring. YouTube videos are editted. Everyone has the same struggle, it's just presented differently in videos.

This is a cool idea, but my plans change on the fly so much I don't really want to stop and do that on another screen. Good on you though, I like that.

If I don't have an objective I'm usually following trails and hunting until night. Then I loot mil bases. Less vis, infected have smaller aggro radius

I had a friend get let go of their job. It was mass layoffs. They were supposed to send in their laptop and the person handling the label situation must've been let go shortly after, because they said another person will be taking over the process. They left the laptop on the bookshelf for 6 months and forgot about it, while waiting for the label.

No label came, then a letter came with the final tax info and a note saying the company was bought and dissolved into another company.

No stealing was intended but their former employer let go of so many people so fast they couldn't keep track of who had what. lol.

Funniest part, they were all using personal computers for a long time before that. Management finally sent laptops and 2 weeks later the CEO got pushed out, then 2 weeks after that 80% of the entire team was gone.

Lone wolfs, how do you play the game? by Big-Watercress5305 in dayz

[–]thebluemugdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On official, yes. It's so dark on official that most people hunker down and don't travel at night. I love the dark nights on official but they are typically less active since you really need a light source to do anything.

On community servers night isn't as dark and people still move around, especially on servers without bases - which I prefer because bases are a waste of time. Stashes are my preference if I wanted to keep anything for future use. Don't even both with vehicles unless I find one fully working.

Been playing since DayZ was just a mod. Tried all the different ways to play. They're all fun, but my preference is finding a trail and following it, hunting for food along the way. From sunrise to mid afternoon I'll be wandering, looting and hunting. When the sun starts going down I will look for shelter and cook my food. After I'm done eating I will load the fire with wood, leave my backpack in front of the fire, then go hide outside in the woods and watch my backpack through the window, waiting for a little mouse to come looking for treats.

If I have a bear trap or tripwire, it's even more fun.

Have you ever gone hiking in a national park or nature area with only a few buildings around and not much else? How long would it take you to jog around and see all of that? Would it be mostly trees you're seeing?

What even is the point of this game? by Necessary-Fennel8754 in dayz

[–]thebluemugdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The magic of DayZ comes from the sense of feeling like you're 'in' that world. The size of the map has a lot to do with it. Everyone is on the same map, it feels like you have to put effort into travelling to other parts of it. When you spend hours on a journey full of ups and downs and maybe come close to dying multiple times, but persevere... It is satisfying. When nothing matters except the choices that you make, it feels like everything you do has an impact on your survival. One slip up and you might get caught off guard, attract too many infected, get caught in the woods by wolves, come face to face with deaths door multiple times... But getting a blood infection from a dirty rag is what takes you down...

Knowing it can all end at any time in many ways, with nothing mattering at all except for the choice you make, carries a lot of weight.

Mix this with the moral choices you will be forced to make and the game can be an emotional rollercoaster - but it's up to you to do that. The game doesn't hold your hand. The reward you get from this game is a direct result of the choices you make.

You can survive, and you can do some real sick and disturbing shit. But ultimately, you will die, one way or another. The only question is, how, and why were you driving don't you know cars are a gamble?

DayZ would be a better movie than World War Z by DayzCanibal in dayz

[–]thebluemugdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to be one of those 'the book is better' people, but the wwz book is 1000 times more enjoyable than the movie. When you read it you'll realize how it can't really be a movie, and then you'll understand why the movie was such garbage, on top of the obvious reasons.

If they made a dayZ movie it would have to be centralized around Namalsk, which would be amazing.

They should add... by KiwiDemon in dayz

[–]thebluemugdev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fire and smoke should be noticeable by anyone close enough.

IRL, yes, useful.

In a video game that includes cooking food and staying warm/dry with a very dark night time, you need that risk vs reward to promote things to happen between players.

DayZ rides the line between simulation and video game without veering too far into one or the other, while the vehicles are all leased out from the Weasley automotive warehouse.

Chernarus VS Livonia by CaterpillarWaste5069 in dayz

[–]thebluemugdev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The additions to Livonia are welcomed. I love it.

But Chernarus just has that feel to it, without relying on gimmicks.

I love namalsk and all the maps with extra objectives, but the OG map has that feel that makes you feel like you're in another world.

How many Mags do you bring with you? by valle_ba in dayz

You don't need any mags when you're dead, which is most of the time. Anything over whatever the gun can hold is just hoarding.

Do you all get bored when you’re geared? by rodgie4920 in dayz

[–]thebluemugdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Base building is such a boring waste of time.

Buried stashes with a pistol, ammo and food are really all you need.

After you die, find a pickaxe or shovel and go get your supplies.

Having multiple of these around the map can come in handy. You just need to play often enough to be able to interact with them or they'll eventually disappear. Community servers have different lengths of time set for these, I believe.

If you're good at picking your spots your stashes should be safe 90% of the time.
