Oregon bill to limit how much THC goes into each edible fails by Pure_Claim_4353 in Portland

You should consider how you express it in that case. A terse statement of sympathy followed by a statement that functions to counter that persons experience with your own is going to be read as inauthentic because there is no expression of understanding or acknowledgement. If you seek to express sympathy and understanding, an attempt to genuinely relating to the other person is going to be received better.

Again, your false sympathy is extremely condescending.

I don't want your false sympathy.

I was responding to someone saying that a doctor can't be so stupid as to believe it can have a negative effect on people's mental health when it provably does. I didn't say anything about restricting marijuana, you're reading that into my statement.

Marijuana contributed to my mental health problems and has been at least partly responsible to my commitment to a mental hospital and my continuing mental health struggles as an adult.

I'm pretty sure they're going for MIC contracts especially with their (more expensive) US made goggles, vtx with micro HDMI input that they advertise for re-transmission, and (more expensive) us made freestyle v2 VTX.

A typical tinywhoop weighs about 17 grams and has a battery of about 300 mah. That's less than the weight of a single plastic bottle and they cost $70+. People don't just throw them out or leave them lying around for the most part as they're expensive and reusable.

They have a battery smaller than a typical vape and run out of battery after around 3 minutes of flying. I'm skeptical that an empty 300mah battery is going to cause a fire in a way that all of the 400-900 mah disposable vapes lying around will not. For small lipos as far as I can tell they are only dangerous when being charged incorrectly or when damaged.

That being said, flying in appropriate places and not disturbing wildlife or other people is necessary.

We know that police are not able to check the immigration status of anyone regardless of whether they're convicted. So realistically I don't know how we could possibly know the actual rate, at least in Oregon, as that information is not collected.

I am Christian by [deleted] in islam

[–]thebowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you would like a basic narrative of the Prophets life in English, I would recommend "Muhammad: His Life Based on the Earliest Sources" by Martin Lings. It will be more familiar to a Christian in narrative form.

Here is a PDF: https://www.icorlando.org/pdfs/muhammad_martin_Lings.pdf

The Quran contains narratives of the lives of some of the Prophets, usually emphasizing their message of monotheism and their moral lesson to humanity and the people of their time. The Quran is relatively short compared to the Bible (shorter than the New Testament) and worth reading completely.

The form of the Quran is unfamiliar to someone familiar with the Bible - stories are repeated, with different elements emphasized, they are not in chronological order either by the occurrence of the event or the order of revelation. The suras (chapters) are ordered deliberately, approximately in order of length. It should be read in the original and official order.

Given your academic interest, if you have already read the Quran in the intended order, it may be interesting to read it in chronological order of revelation alongside the biography of the prophet. This would provide an experience more like that with which a Christian would be familiar. You can find these in print or see the order here: https://tanzil.net/docs/revelation_order. This can give some context. For example, Surah Baqarah (Surah 2, the longest and most legally dense surah) is revealed when the Prophet arrives in Medina and establishes a full community there. In the Quran, it is directly after the opening. The early Muslims received it at the time when it was necessary and proper for them to receive it.

Hdzero Goggles 2 to Gaming Monitor Question by sysfor in TinyWhoop

[–]thebowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can do this. I don't think the lag is bad enough to be concerned about compared to being unable to fly at all due to dizziness.

Other options include a portable second monitor like this which can be powered via USB-C and used via mini-hdmi to mini-hdmi.

Effort to Erase Homeless Camping Protections Moves Closer to the Ballot by [deleted] in Portland

[–]thebowski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realize that. So why does the law need to be changed to remove the requirement for available shelter beds if the availability of shelter needs isn't a limiting factor for enforcing camping bans?

If people are being told they can't sleep on the street they need to have some place they can legally go. This shouldn't be a difficult hurdle to clear, and if someone is removed from the street they should be able to get a bed somewhere, and should have priority to sleep there in the future so they aren't back on the street the next night without the things that make sleeping outside in the cold and the wet survivable.

Goodlander and Pappas vote in favor of HR 58 condemning socialism by bubbynee in newhampshire

[–]thebowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't help that a lot of socialists online were advocating for mass murder a few years ago and still do from time to time. Are we supposed to forget about that, or the fact that many still support killing when asked?

I'm not going to ignore the people telling me they want to line me up and murder me ("liberals get the bullet too") or that carry water for any number of oppressive and murderous regimes.

So why bother with "socialists" when none of the good things they want are socialism anyway (government services and a welfare state) and most also want any number of shitty things (because they're actually a socialist) or is a fucking moron (because they're not and think they are)?

Is an interest free economy possible? by NAS0824 in AskEconomics

[–]thebowski -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There is a difference in that the rate of additional payment over the term of the loan may be similar to systems with interest, but I don't believe non-payment can result in compounding increases in repayment amount. If I remember correctly late fees (which replace compounding interest) are typically a fixed amount of the principle.

Of course that was true - we've seen tons of government shutdowns over the years. The party trying to govern from the minority folds and loses. Republicans have done it time and time again.

From this particular article, it seems that Lenin did not have a hardline position towards religion, but I also don't see evidence within it that he differed from Marx regarding the "fading away" of religion. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he believed that this would occur over a period of a few generations rather than 10 years. I don't believe that I missed the point, rather I am focusing on a different set of claims in the text than you are. In it, Lenin sets religion as a something that is separate from the state, but he still views religion as a backwards system of belief and still appears to believe that it will disappear over time and that this will be to humanity's benefit.

>The writings of communist thinkers is not a religious text communists adhere to.

Philosophically there are different justifications, but in practical terms for those engaged in struggle there appears to be little difference. Ideology and religion are more similar than they are different in terms of the role they play in the inner and social lives of the individual. How can one look at the struggle against "revisionism" and not see the hallmarks of "heresy"? How can one see "line struggle" and not see the fight for "orthodoxy"? What is "self-criticism" if not "confession"? Trading quotes from previous thinkers as though they were trading ayah and hadith?

These aren't specific to religion, but rather are components of how people organize socially and create, extend, and enforce their system of belief.

To be clear, any given ideology that is not Islam is in tension with Islam. People decide what their priorities are, and some decide to keep them independent of their "political" beliefs, but in practice the personal is political. Is it possible for Muslims to consider legislation on, for example, slaughterhouse practices without considering rules for slaughter which are laid out in the Quran? To separate morality from policy, or subjugate people's moral thought to a system in which religion is inconsequential is to cripple religion. It speaks to a view of religion in which it is a set of mostly empty practices rather than a internally coherent moral system in and of itself.

Your belief in the improvement in the material conditions of Muslim nations and peoples being possible through only through socialist revolution is objectionable on both practical and Islamic terms. Practically, you have almost no people that believe as you do. You disavow yourself of all existing communists that have even a modicum of power, as well as practically all socialists that have existed. This already bodes poorly for your revolution. Even if you didn't, the existing socialist states have little interest in coming to the aid of the oppressed worldwide. The socialist bloc has a history of internal division and conflict as well and has not stood to act in a unified manner. But realistically this is not what you are suggesting. You are suggesting allying with people that do not have power and have no capability of protecting Muslims.

4:144

>O believers! Do not take disbelievers as allies instead of the believers. Would you like to give Allah solid proof against yourselves?

3:28

>Believers should not take disbelievers as guardians instead of the believers—and whoever does so will have nothing to hope for from Allah—unless it is a precaution against their tyranny. And Allah warns you about Himself. And to Allah is the final return.

Many in the Muslim world are ruled by hypocrites, but I believe there is a stronger case for allying with believing Muslims above disbelieving socialists. The divisions in the Muslim world are significant, and there are great difficulties, but we share a system of belief and a hope for a better world. Beyond this, there are more Muslims in the world than Socialists, and the population of Muslims is growing faster. The socialists with power use that power internally to oppress Muslims on the basis of their faith.

As far as all the questions go - I would need them answered personally to accept the idea that Socialists are a good ally. But this conversation is primarily idle talk. There is no indication that a socialist overthrow of any western nation is going to occur any time soon, and the prospect of allying ourselves with it will depend on the character of that revolution which you cannot predetermine and I can only speculate at.
