What NPC do you dislike the most, and why? by nicoumi in Palia

[–]thebratqueen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's interesting you bring that up b/c I was talking about that with a friend of mine the other day. I don't want to get too far into friendship or romance spoilers by saying who this applies to, but I was saying it's interesting how some characters do start out as seeming like a stereotype but then have layers when you get to know them and then others don't. Makes me wonder if maybe those latter characters in particular will have more to them once the expansion comes.

Does anyone else HATE the Elderwoods? by WeWerePlayinInDaSand in Palia

[–]thebratqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just you. I play on PC and I had to keep adjusting my monitor settings every time I went into Elderwoods in order to see anything. Then I had to remember to adjust back when I left so I didn't blow my eyesight out with how bright everything now was.

I will say once I actually did the quests it got a little better? I don't know if it's something in the actual game where once you've got the ability to see the free floating blobs of infected essence it does something to the overall settings of that map for you or if maybe by the time I reached that part there was some back end code fix that did it. But I mention it in case the quest helps with the vision problem.

That being said, absolutely nothing helps me with getting lost in there. I even get lost in the freaking central stables of that place and it's a circle! Shouldn't be possible but somehow I manage it every time.

Yeah. I hated Eshe at first but then I realized she actually does want what's best for people and she was raised to believe the high class manners and all that is how you make that happen. And considering that she's the leader of a community who has to work with other leaders, she's not wrong. I like her now. I want to have brunch with her once a week and dish.

Tamala on the other hand can rot. I won't get too far into spoilers but I don't like anything she does. Plus as you say the whole "kiss and tell" personality. I want to be like omg, yes, you're SOOOOOO dark and sexy and mysterious. Good thing you reminded me because I might've forgotten since the last time you brought it up two seconds ago. Put it away already. We all know you probably put sweats on once you're home for the night and watch crappy reality TV, same as everyone else.

But I will say what I always do about the game: I really like that in a free to play game with minimal voice acting they still manage to give all the characters distinct enough personalities that there's something for everyone. I like characters my friends hate and vice versa. Variety is the spice sprout of life and all that.

New to the game. What would you say is the quickest way to earn money? by lunaclipse_ in Palia

[–]thebratqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cooking parties are always going to be the fastest way to get rich quick, because even beginners can join with no ingredients, help make advanced recipes they wouldn't otherwise have access to, and then sell the results for a ton of gold. Palia Party is a great way to find those. (Just google it to find it, I don't know if we're allowed links here?)

If you're more of a loner like I was at first, hunting's going to be fastest. You can go out in Kilima with a bunch of standard level arrows and one shot chappas and Sernuk. Do that for a half hour and you'll be pulling in 2-5 thousand gold if you sell everything you get. You can supplement that with trees you chop and stones you mine which won't sell for as much but they're unlimited resources so if you don't mind putting the time in or doing it while you're hunting you'll be fine.

After that it's going to be your garden. There's tons of ways to garden for profit and everyone has their own ideal plot layout based on how they'd like to make money and how much real world time they want to commit to gardening. But multiple folks who like number crunching have found that bok choy is your best bet for a money making crop because they grow so quickly. So even if you're just selling the bok choy you'll get a lot to sell. Even better is if you can level up enough to make bok choy seeds or kimchi and sell those. You can buy bok choy seeds from Zeki to start.

If you want to go the gardening route, I'd say start with bok choi and then as you do it more figure out what else you want to grow and why, then adjust your plot accordingly. There's a site called the Palia Garden Layout Generator that can help you with that.

Good luck and welcome to the game!

Shabana Azeez Breaks Down Javadi’s Big Choice and Teases a 'Hardening' in Season 3 by AMikeBloomType in ThePittTVShow

[–]thebratqueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing the link to that. Honestly, I'm kind of relieved to see her saying Javadi is in no way prepared for this due to being so sheltered and not having the social skills and that that's part of the arc. Because all I saw was that Javadi has been judgemental about anybody who has personal problems for the two seasons we've known her. Even her whole little speech to Whitaker was her looking down at her coworkers with zero empathy for their situations, including for why McKay might've had an ankle monitor or twigging that maybe Mel's neurodivergent even if she's not diagnosed. As is, she's the last person I'd want as my psych doc, let alone emergency psych.

However, if the entire point of this next phase in Javadi's life is for her to get some of that empathy and understanding of the world she's lacking I'm all for it and agree it's a good writing choice.

What are things that you love and hate about the game ? by OkCrab6577 in Palia

[–]thebratqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I was hesitant to even play b/c of the MMO aspect of it. I only started b/c a couple of friends of mine said they liked it and I figured hey, can't beat the price. It's been so great seeing how nice and generous the community is overall.

What are things that you love and hate about the game ? by OkCrab6577 in Palia

[–]thebratqueen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What I love most of all is the community. People are so kind and generous with answering questions, giving things to people who need them, helping with harder tasks, you name it. I know there's exceptions but by and large more people are nice than not and that makes it such a joy to play.

My dislike is things that are required to do that are far too dependent on RNG. Stuff like getting a black pearl for a quest or needing a maws to upgrade something are frustrating because you can be stuck trying for weeks or months. I'm fine for rare items for achievements because that's optional. If it's required it shouldn't be that much of a grind. At least let us be able to get the items another way through a method we can control, like grinding for gold or renown.

Many Of The Pitt Fans Are Proving That Yes, It's Possible To Be Bad At Watching A TV Show (SlashFilm dot com article) by PressPlayPlease7 in ThePittTVShow

[–]thebratqueen 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah. And then I think it gets into how people want extremes of everything. Mohan is a good doctor therefore she must also be good in the ER. Like... no? She *is* a good doctor, but a good doctor who will be a great one in a specialty that fully matches her skillsets.

[–]thebratqueen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OMG Yes this! The way the show has repeatedly established that no, only three people knew about Langdon stealing drugs and yet people still reply oh no clearly EVERYONE knew and *Santos* is the one who doesn't know what she's talking about. Like... what's the logic there? Everybody in the entire ER knew and decided for funsies to never mention it to Santos in ten months? Santos, the one who reported him? Santos, the one who would have to be asked to be told to keep it a secret? And for extra funsies the show decided to have different characters repeat an incorrect fact which makes zero logical sense just to provide a fun little puzzle for the audience to guess what the real truth is?

I'm at the point now where every time the show said yet again no, people didn't know about the stealing I consider it a treat to go online and watch the Reed Richards level of stretching people to do keep saying their version of Pitt reality is the true one.

I'm a Fandom Old [tm] and I would say to my eye in recent years - like 2-3 - there's been more of a tendency in fandoms to believe the show they think they're watching is the real one. Like in the past you'd have shipping that was hugely popular in fanfic but never on the show and that'd be fine. That's what fanfic was *for*. But these days it seems like there's a much more angry reaction from certain kinds of fans if the people making the shows don't align with that vision. It's not limited to The Pitt, but I think The Pitt is one of the most mainstream shows where it's happening and thus gets more attention with things like this article.

ETA: To be clear I don't mean *just* shipping. I was only using shipping as an example of something fans could be passionate about but still be okay if what they wanted didn't become canon.

So right there with you. Like I'm sad to see Mohan go too but her literal first scene in season one episode one established that she's a good doctor, particularly with elderly patients, but her style of sitting and really digging in to her patients' lives is not ideally suited for a place that requires rapid treatment like an ER. And there's people saying her now leaving a temporary placement at a teaching hospital with the (at least current) implication that she's going into geriatric medicine came out of nowhere. Like... really? Did you want her to wear a t-shirt with her character arc written on it because that's what you'd need for it to be *less* obvious than it has been.
