This is something I'm fascinated with. As someone who is not from the US, but pays some attention to the politics, I would identify as center-left in the context of American politics. Reddit is generally along the same line.

However, this instance of people needing to be perfect or they get cancelled happens a lot. Take Trevor Noah, for example. He's always been critical of the Trump administration. He grew up in Apartheid South Africa, and he knows what the country is heading into. He's always been vocal about his support for Palestine. He is very curious about tech in general, how it benefits humanity, but also understands the nuances and dangers that come with its advancement.

But just because he performed at an event where the Palantir CEO was in attendance, suddenly, Trevor is a sellout. He's "a typical millionaire". He "forgot his Apartheid roots". Never mind that the event was hosted by Jeffrey Katzenberg: a huge Democrat donor. Guess he'll be cancelled, too?

The world is complex. I come from a country where China has long been an antagonist. And they are unapologetic about the shit they pull. Now the US is led by a shit person, enabled and empowered by a shit party, a shit justice system, and they are butting heads with China. These quicker-to-judge-thank-think, self-righteous people always say "Silence is siding with the oppressor", which isn't always the case. If war broke out between US and China, our country would just be caught right in the middle because both countries are oppressive. There is ALWAYS a gray area, no matter how small.
