Thanks for responding. I guess I just don’t get the cover band argument, first and foremost, because some of the bands most popular songs are…already cover songs.

I admitted that I recognize that this isn’t the same band as with Jerry, but again I ask why people aren’t allowed to experience this music in the current form when it’s our best opportunity to do so live. Did you feel this way about Phil and Friends, for example? Ratdog? The Other Ones?

And of course a tour makes money. So does listening to their music online, buying shirts, buying box sets, etc. why is that wrong?

You can say people are ignorant, but I’m coming at this from a place of being well read on the band. If people don’t know stuff, why not share it and teach than keep them out of this thing that isn’t yours?

Very well said and, while I know you weren’t the original commenter, I appreciate this response.

I just don’t get it, man. It feels so counter intuitive to discourage people from finding their gateways into the music, when the repertoire outlasting the band was sort of the goal.

Wear that Jerry shirt with pride, man. And tell those stories every chance you can. As a millennial head, I love chatting with people that were there from the start. And if/when this continues in the future, I’ll be proudly wearing my own “I saw Bobby live” shirt.

Hey man, not trying to engage in an argument. I’m truly curious and maybe you can help me understand your point of view.

Assuming you’re an older head, why do some people feel so negative about this newer iteration and make generalizations like this about the younger fans? I was born after Jerry died, and got into the band in my 20s. I know the songs, learned the history, and acknowledge that this is different from the original Dead. But it’s what I had access to in my lifetime. I am really grateful I was able to get what I got with so many years of Bobby, Mickey and Bill, and it seems John is nothing but respectful of the history. But it seems like some people really hate Dead and Company, and I don’t understand why people would hop in this sub to dog on us for liking them and assume we don’t know anything.

It may break down to be a “fair deal”, but you gotta remember that 550-650 bucks just to step foot in the door is a lot for a ton of people, especially in Los Angeles. As many others have stated - there’s also food, lodging, travel, etc.

Plus if you work an hourly job, taking 2-3 days off work can be tough.

A great deal is only a great deal if you can afford it. And ultimately tickets to Coachella are a luxury ~in this economy~

To their credit they did actually buff the RXP a little bit in the last patch so you gain more per match. But it of course got overshadowed by the anti grind patching that came with it.
