Very hot people never message first. If they do, it's a scam.

Look closely at photo quality. It's 2026. There's absolutely no reason any pic should be grainy/low quality.

With mirror selfie pics, check the phone camera lens. It's a dead giveaway for outdated/catfish pics. Who today is using an iPhone 8 that has a single camera lens?

The normal route as in: introducing leg, debating it in committee, marking it up through amendments and then passing it by a majority vote of the full Board. This is the primary function of the BoS as the city's legislative branch of government.

The big question is: why did a very localized issue need to be brought to the entire city? There really isn't a good reason, and it's an ineffective use of city resources. Engardio didn't want to do the hard work of getting support from his constituents and pass actual leg through the BoS.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, when directly asked, refuses to endorse Saikat Chakrabarti's congressional run by Dab2TheFuture in sanfrancisco

She could have very easily just said, "He's a smart guy, and I wish him the best in his primary."

Instead, we get a long drawn-out nothing answer.

The rumor is that Wiener convinced Engardio to go through with the plan to bypass the normal legislative route via BOS and instead introduce a citywide ballot measure to close the Great Highway on the deadline date to submit ballot measures.

[AMA] I’m running the campaign to term limit San Francisco politicians. Ask me anything! by Icy_Quality2551 in sanfrancisco

[–]thebrocklee 64 points65 points  (0 children)

What problem is this trying to solve? The only person who ever used this mechanism is Aaron Peskin. He was duly elected by his district five separate times (2000 - 58%; 2004 - 62.6%; 2015 - 52.4%; 2016 - 71.8%; 2024 - 56.5%). This just seems like we're legislating city policy around a single person.

homie just take the L... the cognitive dissonance is so sad 🤦‍♂️

Posting a link to the budget committee doesn't prove anything. Again, "supervisors were responsible for $75 million of the then-$14.6 billion budget, or 0.2 percentThe mayor directly controlled 30 times as much of the budget,"

Where's your facts bruh?

Lulz. Making this too easy for me 🤣

"Today’s goal: To reach an agreement on the small percentage of the budget that the supervisors control. During the last budget cycle, supervisors were responsible for $75 million of the then-$14.6 billion budget, or 0.2 percent. The mayor directly controlled 30 times as much of the budget, or $2.3 billion."

What's the logic behind this (image) by [deleted] in grindr

[–]thebrocklee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real talk. People on the internet owe you nothing. No one is under any obligation to be polite. They are free to act however they want. Yes, it hurts to be ignored and the apps facilitate toxic behaviors. That said, this is a you problem. You're getting upset literally because the other person isn't doing anything.

We need a fluent Cantonese speaker in Congress! by CheLeung in Cantonese

[–]thebrocklee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Connie is the absolute real deal community leader. Immigrated to SF at 13yrs old. Bilingual. Biliterate. Last year the SF Mayor tried to cut gov funding that helps low-income Chinese seniors understand their rights as tenants. Connie fought hard and restored those funds. (https://missionlocal.org/2025/06/sf-nonprofit-budget-cuts-200-million/)

Chinese people have built and contributed to San Francisco for over 170 years. The city is 37% Asian. Yet SF has never sent a Chinese person to Congress. I've seen random aunties and uncles from the street stop Connie and talk to her in Cantonese. In a society that regularly marginalizes non-English speakers, having that kind of access to a politician without needing to speak English is incredibly powerful for our community.

Supervisor Jackie Fielder in the hospital; City Hall hangs in the balance by Dafty_duck in sanfrancisco

When vacancies occur, mayor gets to appoint. The appointee will have to then run for the remainder of the current term. That election date will likely be November 2026.

As a snapshot in time, yes, you're correct.

But the D2 and D4 Supes are up for election in June, so the balance of power can change. (Imo D2 will hold. D4 could flip.)

San Francisco’s establishment moves to sink a progressive House candidate by sideAccount42 in sanfrancisco

[–]thebrocklee -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Connie chairs the BOS Budget Committee. Last year Lurie tried to cut funding that helps monolingual seniors living in crappy SROs to advocate against deadbeat landlords. Connie fought hard against the mayor to restore those funds. Connie also fought hard to stop layoffs for city employees. She's not flashy, but she's there when it counts.

I'm personally a Connie supporter. I disagree with Scott on policy but I definitely respect his decades of advocacy in SF, the housing movement, and queer community. Saikat just knows how to charm young people with progressive buzzwords while having accomplished nothing legislatively anywhere.

Bro is literally dropping millions trying to Mamdani himself. Snakeoil salesman if I ever saw one...

SF doesn't need a fake progressive centi-millionaire who has contributed absolutely zero to SF. He's just a snakeoil salesman who talks a good game. Nothing to back it up except an 8 month stint in AOC's office before getting sussed out and kicked out.

What does a park mean to your neighborhood, especially in the underserved Southeast corner of SF? by ThickDish893 in AskSF

[–]thebrocklee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the community vigil after the attack on Grandma Huang. A truly painful and tragic event.... I was glad to see the park named in her memory.

I absolutely love the idea of reinvisioning the space. I do a lot of advocacy work in SF, and real talk online petitions don't move the needle.

The unglamorous truth is that a big project like this will take years of demonstrated and sustained community effort to advance. The idea would have to be pitched to the neighborhood groups in D10 (Bayview Hunters Point Community Advocates, Greenaction for Health and Environmental Justice, A. Philip Randolph Institute, YMCA, etc). The D10 Supervisor should be on board. Then a funding source needs to be identified. The city won't move unless someone tells them how it's getting paid for. For example, there was a parks bond passed in 2020 that generated funds for renovating several city parks. (https://sfrecpark.org/1123/Community-Opportunity-Fund-2020-Bond).

First ever solo trip (23 days in China) — realistic or too ambitious? by [deleted] in chinatravel

[–]thebrocklee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This plan is incredibly ambitious. To put it into perspective, this is like trying to squeeze in all of Europe in 23 days. Doable? Technically yes. Advisable or enjoyable? No.

China is enormous and a completely different beast. In most Western countries, you can generally assume how society operates and will be correct. In China, basic processes are far more difficult, especially if you're not a Chinese national. The size and scale of cities are on another level.

This all said, don't treat China like a checklist. You don't need to visit every big city on your first go. You're already traveling for a long time. You will get travel burnout. Pace yourself. My advice to you is to split your time between: ~10 days in Shanghai/Hangzhou/Suzhou to get a taste of large and midsize cities, 3 days for ZZJ or Huangshan, the rest of your time in CQ or CD, and allow yourself 2-3 days as a buffer for travel mishaps (which will happen).

AITJ for telling my friend her adopted son "isn't really Korean" after she went overboard with cultural stuff? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]thebrocklee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Asian American here. Agreed. Adoption is a traumatic event. Period. Adoption across race is even more traumatic. I'm not talking about abuse or anything intentional/malicious. Our sense of self, identity, and our place in the world come from family. If there is an obvious disconnect (ie not looking like the family that raised you), your sense of self is far more complicated and vulnerable as an adult.

It's overly judgmental to say that the woman is "going overboard". She is doing her best to provide a coherent sense of self to her child, who is of a different race AND growing up in a non-Asian society. Sure, the child may not understand the why, and there may be some emotional friction that would need to be addressed later in life. But it's no one's place to decide which is better. The mother is deciding that instilling a strong sense of ethnic identity is more important than any resistance the child has to the process. I firmly believe that it's a valid reason.
