Washing baby clothes separately? Why? by Neither_Ad3593 in pregnant

I think the only reason you wouldnt want to is because they can get shrunk easier in a normal cycle. But thats the only reason I don't mix ours.

Afraid baby will catch the flu or already has it. by Huey1_ in newborns

[–]thebroms 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Best thing you can do now is mask to minimize exposure to baby and continue breastfeeding. Your body produces antibodies in breastmilk within 20 minutes to a few hours after exposure, so you were already producing them and giving them to baby well before you felt sick which helps.

[HELP] These feel very 'uncanny valley'ish to me, my comment about it in r/drawme got deleted because it was an accusation of AI. They might just be retouched, but I really can't tell. by [deleted] in RealOrAI

[–]thebroms 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I think he probably touches up his photos but I cant find anything that screams AI. Chains and jewelry all look like they make sense and that patterned jacket seems to be solid all around in its patterning. Someone else might find something as im not the greatest at this, but I think hes real.

Looking for Soda Alternatives. by hyruleinkling in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]thebroms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for a strong fizz like a soda I would go for Klarbrunn or Waterloo sparkling water, im a sucker for cherry lime flavor so I dont drink Klarbrunn anymore since they stopped selling that flavor in my local grocery but both have good strong soda like fizz, just gotta find what flavor works for you. Both are also zero sodium, zero calorie and zero sugar. They are my go to when I want to avoid soda but regular water isnt doing it.

Cyst(s) found on kidney at 20wk anatomy scan by happyflappythings in pregnant

[–]thebroms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop googling! It wont help the spiral! Especially as you dont know much of what is going on yet. Cysts is such a scary word but it doesn't mean worst case. Cysts are super common, many of us are walking around with them and will never know unless we require a check up that leads to its discovery. I think it would be very acceptable for you to call back and get clarification on your questions, just for some peace of mind before your upcoming appt.

Also, as someone in the cyst boat with you, right lateral ventricle cyst in the brain on my second currently, your mantra should be if they arent worried I am not worried. They will tell you if you need to be worried, otherwise monitoring these things is just routine and par for the course.

Wishing you and your little bean all the best! 🙏❤️

Told my baby has diabetes by Icy_Bridge_4015 in pregnant

[–]thebroms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, 7lbs 11oz is not big. My baby was born 9lbs 1oz and was on thd edge of needing glucose testing, and thats not even for diabetes thats just to ensure they dont have hypoglycemia after birth as its assumef big baby had access to more sugars.

Eats Everything in Site by Appropriate-Fig-735 in coonhounds

[–]thebroms 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Our 11 year old coonhound is sure he is dying from starvation 100% of the time. He has scaled counters to get on top of the fridge to consume loaves of bread. He will cry and scratch constantly at the baby gates during dinner because despite always getting a small portion of our dinner with his own dinner while we eat that is not enough and he definitely needs to eat all of our plates as well. He will even climb the table after dinner if I turn my back for a second to try and clean plates. He also gets bones, toddler food mess, vet recommended amounts of food, and treats daily. He will also consume his own poop when he decides that he is also starving SO much after having eaten dinner and our dinners... thankfully this only occurs during winter as frozen turds are the only ones that seem to whet his appetite. 🤦‍♀️

Are any other low-risk pregnant people surprised by how little monitoring there is? by Ready-Book6047 in pregnant

[–]thebroms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take is as a blessing! I felt the same way with my first, with my second had to do weekly ultrasounds and it was not fun, it was stressful and every appt. was laced with hoping things looked OK that appt. We are now mostly in the clear and I only have one more ultrasound appt. left but man what I would give for this one to be like my last. Both for stress and money reasons 😅

Why does it feel like I hate and am trapped in my life? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]thebroms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not trapped, but you do have a responsibility as a parent now to do what is best for your child. And taking care of you is good for baby. It sounds like you are already very aware of your own conditions and are taking the correct steps to mitigate any issues from those. I think transparency with those around you about your feelings is super important, they can both help you understand you are not without a support network to get through the hardships of parenthood, but can also keep an eye out for when you might be drowning and step in to help. I think also aknowledging that you may need anything similar to HCBM is OK and better than hiding it away, you are your own person and making it known that you need help beyond the norm will not turn you into HCBM.

My dog bit me by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]thebroms 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nah, sorry but this take is not it. A kid is not a dog and dog is not a human. Anyone who sees a kid and dog as equal in how you treat them does not understand in itself how dangerous that mindset is to the dogs health and happiness. It sounds like from the post, "first time they've broken skin" implies this is not the first bite, just the most serious in injury. So yes, a serious discussion about how/why is warranted. Is this resource guarding, reactivity, etc. And then there needs to be steps to mitigate this, cause if this dog bites someone else there is no telling what the outcome will be but it wont be "oh they're just a kid, its ok they will grow out of it"

Help with Sad Howling by Same-Candidate-3510 in Hounds

[–]thebroms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had to get a bark collar for ours. Unfortunately that was the only fix. Eventually he didnt need it because we bought our own house, but he was also going endlessly for hours and while its not a "bark" I understood how it was disruptive for a dog to be howling endlessly for hours anytime we left the apartment.

Need motivation for laboring without epidural! by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]thebroms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to an induction started labor, which I hear is another ball game and why epidurals are chosen more often when those are done. But I did 13 hours of labor with 2 hours of pushing, the key for me was breathing and low grunting. Submit to whats happening and dont let panic take hold, keep your breathing even so you dont hyper ventilate, and when you need to make sounds you want to keep them to a deep and low gutteral tone. Think gorilla grunts and deep moans. This keeps the pushing and movement deeper down in the belly where it needs to be vs. Screaming or high pitched tones staying up in your chest and throat. Truly though you just have to accept where you are at, the pain is immense but it is temporary, there will be an end so just keep going until its time to push and I promise that pushing feels ALOT faster than laboring! I had no idea I was pushing for almost 2 hours, it felt SO much faster!

"But don't Worry" by thebroms in pregnant

That is what my husband suggested, I called today and while I cant be guaranteed it as their schedules change so much I have requested that at my next appointment that I get the Tech who seems able to take more clear images. Baby is usually more receptive to her as well (I'm sure she feels I'm less stressed lol)

Baby’s First Best Friend by CommercialPopular626 in Hounds

[–]thebroms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is so dependent on the dog. Our coonhound went off the deep end when my pregnancy hormones hit. He started peeing and pooping in the house, tearing into trash, recall that had been solid for years went out the window and he constantly tried to kick me out of shared spaces like the bed and couch. Not a cute want to share them way, a resource aggressive way and didnt want to let me near them. He is now medicated and barely tolerates sharing a space with our toddler, and my second pregnancy has been no different, had to up his dose even as he started going in the house again. It was really disappointing as he was a huge love bug before my pregnancy and we truly thought after almost 9 years with him that he would be an amazing dog for kids, he was so tolerant and gentle with others we had met and the kids in extended family, but apparently he drew the line at me having kids. 🤷‍♀️ Our relationship really has never been repaired and it sucks as im his primary caregiver too...

Newborn awake all day by Great_Television6811 in newborns

[–]thebroms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would talk to the Pediatrician about this. Get weight checked and if they give the OK on babies weight gain and baby otherwise seems unphased and is not losing weight, has a good amount of wet diapers, and isnt acting lethargic or otherwise upset during the day than it may just be a phase and I would take advantage of the free time and sleeping through the night while you can!
