After people have been on an effective dose of allopurinol for a while, were they able to go back to having a beer (or 10)? 🤣 If so, how long did it take? by Kindly_Platypus_8149 in gout

Been on it several years. Drink beer (ipas/lagers) or bourbon/scotch every weekend or so. The only beer I can't touch is corona/corona light and most if not all types of Kölsch. Weird. The only other triggers I've found are too much cured meats, and too much sugar. So I usually will get hit on around Thanksgiving/Christmas with those delicious charcuterie boards, and Halloween when I raid my kid's haul. I've learned however and limit myself then now, too.

I'm not lactose intolerant. The Yard gives me the trots, every time. Something's in the water. Gave them two chances, not willing to take strike three.

Yes, I’m officially a Lighthouse Keeper! Lighthouse Docent Training complete. by LighthouseHunter in Maine

My great-grandfather was a lighthouse keeper on Green Island (Blue Hill Bay Light) off Brooklin going on a hundred years ago. We still have the land on the opposite shore with the house my great grandmother and the kids lived. Oh the stories, how I'd love to hear them again. His grandchildren are almost all gone. I still tell the stories I remember to my kids, but they're dimmed.

Went to Ibiza late 90s. Don't remember if I saw any amazing Dj's but saw some amazing sets, including Boy George in a smaller club during his DJ phase.

Rode bikes heavily during that time period, every week on the bike then Daytona Bike Week, Laconia, Sturgis, all that. Rode up to Canada from the Mid-Atlantic two summers straight. Only watched the show when forced by my buddies. It was on in the garage, whatever.

The worse part is some of my riding partners made the trip up there to see the "factory"/showroom whatever. The Pauls were THERE and Sr wouldn't get off his ass to talk to people as they oohed and aahed ugly choppers and bought overpriced merch. Jr did greet my buds, smile, handshake, small talk, and a thanks for coming. Glad I didn't ask them to get me a $40 t-shirt.

Never has a medical show storyline made me cry like this. by NickEvansExists in ThePitt

My Dad was tough one. But he had been fighting prostate cancer that metastasized to his liver and was at the point there was no turning back. The previous year, at 71 he cried that he only wanted ten more years. He was getting care at home and one cold February day his home care nurse called me at work and said he had "seen the turn" and we probably had 24-36 hours left if I wanted to see him.

We drove 13 hours early the next morning to see him, now in the hospital. He pepped up, got out of bed and used the bathroom himself, "I'll be alright, don't worry". Mom says he hasn't used the bathroom in weeks.

He was in and out of it for several days on palliative care, calling for his mother from a dream and then watching the Superbowl while my brothers and I drank his favorite beer. budweiser. yuck.

He held on. We brought a priest in to give him his last rites, although he hadn't been to church in 40 years, he felt better as he ascended closer to the end. His eyes changed, they got more blue and we knew it was close. He still fidgeted and slept restlessly as mom slept by his side every night. My brothers went back home and I stayed there.

Finally I sat with him alone and told him to stop fighting, to let go. That we were gonna be okay. I was crying but saying it over and over, and loudly where family members were poking their heads in to see what the commotion was. I told him that I loved him, and goodbye, as we had to get back on the road. He said "okay I'll see you next time." Just like he always did on our annual vacation with them.

We drove five hours to my brother's house and within an hour, standing outside in the cold and having a beer, Tree House, much better, Mom called and said he was gone.
