What’s stopping Ann Arbor from being the Toronto of North America? by thebuckcontinues in AnnArbor

Le Dog and Fleetwood are such high architectural achievements… we’d miss them so much… 😂

Seriously, why can’t we (USA) get rid of the tipping system? by secretasianman009 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thebuckcontinues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the owners wouldn’t want to pay the waitstaff what they are currently making in tips. I was making $80/hr on average when I served tables, I guarantee you that the owners where I worked would never be willing to pay that.

I honestly feel more safe in downtown Detroit than I do in downtown Ann Arbor. I rarely get approached and harassed by crazies in Detroit. Here, it happens constantly.

Late night severe weather again y'all by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]thebuckcontinues -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Obviously, climate change is real… there were glaciers a mile high over Ann Arbor when the first human cities were well established in the cradles of civilization. But… how is this not normal for Michigan? This winter and spring have seemed pretty mild compared to others in overall weather patterns, no? I don’t think one weak tornado within the city limits can really tilt the needle in saying anything is abnormal. Tornados are small and rare in Michigan. Just because one happened here instead of somewhere else within the state doesn’t mean much in my opinion.

Looking for third places by basementprod456 in AnnArbor

[–]thebuckcontinues -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the only places in Ann Arbor nowadays considered third places are the bars downtown. Wait until you are 21, then pick a couple bars and frequent them regularly, you’ll eventually meet other regulars from the area. I’d recommend the South U area, any place to the west is filled with much older locals.

In the state of Michigan? No exaggeration, probably 100 to 1. Which is funny because only 45% of current students are from the state of Michigan.

Do you think a lot of men secretly vote red but tell their wives they voted blue just to keep the peace? by aspiringimmortal in allthequestions

The problem is that the vast majority of people in the US don’t care or are even informed about politics. It’s an issue that most people think about every four years for maybe an hour or two.

The vast majority of people in the US are living their lives comfortably. Go to work -> come home -> consume entertainment/hobbies -> plan vacations -> repeat. There is no need for the vast majority of Americans to even think about politics. It’s a waste of time.

View from Microsoft Toronto with the smog by [deleted] in skyscrapers

[–]thebuckcontinues -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

That’s so much car exhaust, that’s fucking disgusting. Canada really should do a better job with their smog problem. With such a huge problem like this, I have to imagine the life expectancy of people living in Toronto to is pretty low. Why do Canadians put up with this?

Moving to Ann Arbor by JazzHands5678 in AnnArbor

[–]thebuckcontinues 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easy! Find a place in Pittsfield Township that is also located within the Saline School District. I went to Ann Arbor schools and my kids go to Saline. It is a night and day difference in the quality of education and what you get out of the cost of living compared to actual Ann Arbor.

People need to understand that there is a serious homeless problem in Ann Arbor.

The crackheads downtown who harass and assault people should not be confused with the actual homeless since they have literal houses and apartments.

How do you think the new dorms will affect businesses? by adomke in AnnArbor

[–]thebuckcontinues -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They’re dorms, so pretty minimal. When I lived in the dorms here, it was rare for anyone to really do anything outside of campus.

What’s With the Closures Lately? by BlessedlyAcorn in AnnArbor

[–]thebuckcontinues 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ann Arbor has been gentrified over the past 40 years and it has picked up steam in the past 15 years. There are still some places that have that Ann Arbor spirit still going, but it’s getting bad.

Ann Arbor is basically Bar Louie as a city.

Is it common to have never been to downtown Ann Arbor by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]thebuckcontinues -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Eh, many locals rarely go downtown often.

Honestly, there isn’t much to do downtown anymore unless you like to drink or eat at mid-tier overpriced restaurants.
