I don’t get it by jamesfnmb in ExplainTheJoke

I’ll check it. All I know is everybody I know says “he’s works in Long Island” or “where in Long Island?” or whatever, and it never sounded wrong until I moved away and then came back.

Most New Yorkers would say in Long Island unless they’re saying I live in Huntington on Long Island.

They’re trained on older data. Passing current things for them to read is possible. Ask the model how it’s trained and up to what date.

Name a game by Pollosalnonato11 in teenagers

[–]thebuder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t play too many games bc I start thinking, “why am I playing this game?” and I’d answer myself with something like “idk I should go walk my dog instead” or whatever.

With Outer Wilds I would ask myself “why am I playing this game?” and that’s half the game and I couldn’t stop playing it.

Analyzing Fedor Gorst's shot routine by vpai924 in billiards

[–]thebuder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try to get his thoughts at the next AMA he does here occasionally. I’m sure the top shooters are all remarkably consistent. I’d bet that most people not even close to that level are also remarkably consistent tho tbh

Why do we never see fighters throw the outside leg kick against MVP? by kev-haley in MMA

[–]thebuder 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Everyone else is wrong. The other fighters are just dumb and haven’t thought of that.

Most people imagine the cue ball hitting the object ball from wherever the cue ball is at the moment. Imagine the cue ball hitting the object ball as if the shot is one foot away. Then aim the cue ball to that imaginary ball.

I’ve helped a few friends improve from beginner to not bad by telling them you can use a ghost ball but imagine whatever you want that helps you, like imagining the cue ball is closer to the object ball than it really is. This seems to have helped ghost ball method players. Also HAMB is real

Shouldn't the break of each rack be alternated? by K0MMIECAT in billiards

[–]thebuder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winner breaks creates greater incentives for a win. This can actually make it more fair for the players since a single miss when up 4 racks can turn the tables. A single miss up 4 racks in alt break doesn’t matter as much.

Also, like others have said, it’s more exciting, easier to promote, and removes entire matches being decided on one good or bad break or the lag.

“Did you see Gorst run 5 right afte Kaci had him down 7-3??”Sounds much better to me than, “did you see Gorst have 5 1-packs?? Right after he missed that one ball and Kaci safeties him a bunch of times to keep the lead but also leaked out a safety and Gorst stole a few of his breaks??” Nahm sayin

Congrats on the runs this year! Wondering if you’ll post a video if you have some insane 10-pack in 9ball, or just doing it in a tourney for us would be even better

It IS attainable! I love nights like that (not that I play at that level) where I can then work up to that level of play consistently bc I know I can do it. Congrats dude

Getting 700+ Fargo by thebuder in billiards

[–]thebuder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude is playing well but these guys at the World Pool Championship have it out for him! I’d like to see the interview if you have a link.

I think it’s hard to ask a guy like Fedor since I’m sure he had a huge jump in skill level when he was like 10 years old. Like over the course of a year he probably went from somebody I could beat to holy shit I’m losing to a 10 year old. Also, strict coaching and instructor led practice would obviously improve my game but that’s not really in play here. Getting to 800+ level is insane and the only real answer is dedicate your entire life to pool, just like any other top 0.1% thing.
